Ohio State Marching Band Percussion Show Marching Into Skull Bass Drums 10 17 2015 OSU vs PSU

- Watch for the window screen falling out of it's frame (above the red handrail) at 0:44 in the upper left corner of the screen as the bass drums play. It's very loud in that stairwell! The Ohio State Marching Band marching into St. John Arena for the Skull Session at the Penn State game on October 17, 2015. Shot in the outer lobby/stairwell. The percussion sections, except for the snares, end up in this area as the Band marches into St. John in reverse alphabetical Row order (X first followed by T, S, etc.) Not sure how they manage to swing those bass drums like they do. The cymbals have an entertaining routine, at one point spelling O-H-I-O one letter at a time.
Note the bass drummer who rushes ahead of the rest of his Row as the Band enters the stadium. He strikes a plaque at the entrance in a ritual reminiscent of the "Three Knocks" performed by the Drum Major.

A year late on this comment, but find a good game and do it. You won't regret it. It's even better in person. My uncle brought me a kid, and I'll never forget it. I'm 35 now, and I still remember the snare drummer who gave me his sticks after the game. I was in awe.
I came across them a few weeks ago and am highly impressed. I have watched videos of other bands, but Ohio ROCKS! This is coming from a small town band geek.

This is hard to watch as a percussionist from a show style band in Houston Texas. Its cool and crazy to see cultural differences in bands but Im glad that there is more than just one style too I appreciate it honestly

This is the battery having fun before a performance they are not show style and they are doing goofy traditions that were made up for each section if you listen you can hear a major change in quality at 2:03
People try to compare and say one is better than the other but thats like saying r&b is better than rock. Cant compare show style to RTC

I don't think I've ever seen a band squeeze through a narrow door in formation before. That's sort of an odd thing to practice though I suppose if you go through that doorway that often you have to develop a process for it.

Bro, HBCU bands know how to TURN THE FUCK UP. My marching band is like Ohio State's, but I have TOTAL respect for HBCU bands, and their sound and tradition. They do more than play music, they form the voice of a culture.

I know this is a very traditional band, but why have the snare drummers continued to sling their drums so high over the years? This really impedes proper technique. I guess the old adage
"if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies here.
