This is the Skull Session before the home games at St John Arena. Basically a pep rally. Been to many of them. Just get to the game site around a few hours early and get into the arena.
been to one of these maybe 11 or so years ago!..... my nephew was the "i dotter" that day!..... unbelievably loud and my just learning to walk granddaughter slept through the performance!!!
We didn't have a skull session in the 60s, I don't even know what that is. We just had a field show. As it was, we could've had a much better band director!
Lol.... i feel you no problem always show loyalty to your school 😊 Anyway Ohio was the only school that sent support to Southern University in Baton Rouge after they had a flood .That was so caring of them to do that. Great school.
The Skull Session is held before every home football game at St. John Arena on the campus of tOSU. It used to be the venue for basketball before the Shottenstein Center was built. The band performs some warm ups, including the phenomenal Navy Hymn, then the songs they'll perform at the football game that follows. A high school band usually performs first and the football players and coaches in suits and ties walks through for a bit of a rally. Sometimes the visiting college football team's band performs. Attendance is free to the public.
The Skull Session is a decades-long tradition for the Ohio State University Marching Band before each home football game. The event, in St. John Arena across from Ohio Stadium, began as a rehearsal. But it has grown into much more. It begins after the band marches out of the stadium and into the arena, which often is filled with fans. The Skull Session includes previews of the pregame and halftime shows, musical cheers from small instrumental groups and a visit by the football team and Coach Urban Meyer. The performance of "Le Regiment de Sambre et Meuse," the traditional music for the Script Ohio formation, provides a chance to introduce the sousaphone player who will dot the "i" on the field. -Robert Higgs, cleveland.com
@@underwaterbubbles you've never watched military bands march then. Or militaries from around the world. There is a tactical reason they march like this, as these bands are how militaries communicated before there were radios and mechanized movement on the battlefield. Research it yourself and you'll see. Watch different videos of various countries' military parades, guard mountings, and things like that.
I’m late to this conversation, but that’s now how it works at all. You can have a balanced sound without woodwinds and it really isn’t up for discussion
@@Mario-gd5qk You're a brass player aren't you. What the brass section needs to realize is that the rest of the band wishes they were playing in another room.
@@lawrencestanley8989 lol the entire marching community felt that way about woodwinds that’s why they formed DCI. You really have no idea what you’re taking about it’s hilarious.
192 march on the field. There are 225 band members including the alternates. The entire band marches into the Skull Session.
I am from France and I am amazed about marching band during sport events 😁 we don't have that in Europe
Thats because its wank.

When the Drum Major on the left slipped it nearly looked intentional due to the fact on how he went straight into a march.

The band is more exciting than the actual athletes & game!
I will never understand this tin soldier marching. It's not real marching.

I'm sorry, but without woodwinds, a band sounds so top-heavy that you need to prop it up with a stick to keep it from falling over.
Woodwinds all we need is a melophone
Imma have to disagree.
