I feel like. 45 ACP is the ultimate SMG round(for soft targets) because it won’t overpenetrate, it’s VERY easily suppressed, and it’s got that famous knockdown power.

I was lucky enough to fire a grease gun once in Vegas and two things really stood out to me. One, I was expecting this thing to be very light, it always looked like a light weight gun to me so I was pretty surprised at how heavy and solid this thing actually was. The second thing that surprise me was the recoil, or (relative) lack thereof. Being chambered in .45ACP I was expecting it to kick pretty so I was really surprised at just how light the recoil actually was, probably a result of the weight of the gun.
I've shot a grease gun as well, and I agree with you. They are really a pleasure to shoot.
The grease gun has a nice sound when shooting, but the H & K UMP45 just looks awsome 😏

Interesting that the former SF guy likes the Grease Gun so much. When I asked Don Burgett, WWII combat veteran (Normandy, Holland, Bastogne, Southern Germany) what he thought of the Grease Gun, he called it "a piece of junk."

If u ask me main reason for HK using the 45 alot is Civilan Export.
The largest Civilan Weapons market for HK is in The US.
The 45 is very liked in the US (even more so then the 9mm id want to say)
As such and together with the fact that not every1 else makes guns for 45 made it a good business choice.
Most gun shops here in my area of the USA have told me that 9 and 45 are considered "high-demand" gun wise. 9 is very popular because ammo is cheaper, and usually the guns are cheaper than 45.
Love the UMP, just converted a USC over to the UMP. I have to completely agree 100% LOP is TOO LONG!! Compared to a M16A2 stock it's longer!
Maybe it's because HK realizes Americans(probably the worlds largest legal market for firearms) has a hard on for .45 ACP and will pick up their guns at their high prices rather than supposedly "learning lessons" in history. That's why 9x19mm is an obsolete cartridge used nowhere in the world right?

0:10 I dont think the German engineers looked at grease gun mags, I think they just continued the area of double stack, single feed magazines which exists in Germany since 1918 from the world's first smg, the mp18. Then continued in the mp35, 38 and 40. Obviously American engineers saw how effective single feed mags were, copied em for the grease gun and then h&k just went on with the tradition of German smg mags.
Wrong because none of those previous mags are as reliable as the Grease Gun mag. How do I know ? Because I own all of those guns; every one you mention
ok, sorry that I was wrong, the mp 18 didn't even had double stack, single feed magazines, it took luger magazines.But correct me if I am wrong, but I think the mp35 and mp38/40 do have double stack, single feed magazines. I really believe that the grease gun mags are much more reliable, and of course this will base on the fact, that the American engineers didn't wanted to make the same mistake that the Germans did 10 years before, or are there that huge differences between these two types of magazines? From my point of view if seems like the Germans invented this type of mag, then if was perfectionised by Americans and then this idea was reproduced by H&K.
By the way I really appreciate that you run this awesome channel which is so informative and entertaining in the same time, and that you are communicating with your community. That's the first time I see this that exemplary on a channel that big. Keep goin💪💪

wonder how many M3's you can get for the price of an H&K? Hypothetically speaking, if someone already had the machinary and material to build M3's nowdays.
Closed bolt is good, the grease gun has this opening to allow rain, snow, mud, dirt and rocks into the firing mechanism, not good IMHO.
That's what the dust cover is for, to keep out the snow, mud etc. Open bolt position prevents 'cookoffs' when putting a high volume of rounds through a gun in a short amount of time.

its not really a fair comparison but it is to measure how the grease gun can keep up to the new ump
Well the thing is the m3 is still being used. the Philippines modified the M3 to the M3 Specops generation 2 which has a rail and a built in suppressor. And while a large portion is the price range since 40 m3's can be bought and modified for a modern smg, the grease gun still has merit in modern world.

The AR-15 was designed over 60 years ago and it's still in use by civilians and the US military, although it has been improved.
not to mention the grease gun was designed to be cheap and arm millions of soldiers
