      +HotCuppaCoffee theyre talking longevity of service and fitness for tasking amongst other things.
      All of which are valid comparisons.
      The camel was THE supreme dogfighter, but it was basically obsolete within 6 months of introduction.
      The P51D was the queen of the skies over germany from 1944-1945, but was already rendered obsolete by the ME262 before the D model even arrived in theatre.
      The F15 has been THE tactical air superiority fighter for over 40 years. It is still capable today.
      Of course a camel isnt gonna take on an F15.
      But they can be compared.

    Nice marketing video. The M1A1 Thompson and the M3 Grease gun are battle proven weapons. The Kriss is a plastic laden Mac 10 with a complex mechanism that would have never performed in WW2 combat conditions. US Civilians cannot buy a full-auto Kriss, but can buy registered Thompsons or M3s in NFA legal states.

    Please put this in perspective;
    First how many people commenting on how poor a gun the Thompson is, have actually fired one?
    I have and it's a very unique experience; both in full and semi-auto mode.
    Second, if the Thompson hadn't been created almost 100 years ago, there wouldn't be an evolution to the guns being developed today.
    Third, the comparison here is likened to the current Ford Mustang over an original Ford Model-T, again there's 100 year difference.
    For the average gun owner protecting his home and family, I don't know...
    Whatever you are "comfortable & proficient" with is the best choice for you.
    I'll keep my Thompson, 30 rounds of .45 ACP that I can hang onto with both hands and walk around the room with incredible accuracy; you see where you're firing and what you're hitting. Yes, it's heavy, but it stays where you point it.
    On the other hand, if I'm "firing for effect" with my Thompson, something has seriously broken down in the immediate area...

      Sorry. But the thompson was not any sort of leading design.
      Try the mp18 from ww1 the sub machine gun had been made better and far more simply long before thompson made his heavy expensive and over complicated toy.
      Youre happy with yours. Sweet.
      Doesnt mean it was state of the art when new.
      Fact is it was superceded in service as soon as they developed something cheap to make and easy to maintain.
      They cost 3x the price of a .30 calibre browning machine gun. Ridiculous.

      times were not that different, not enough to say any was better than the other, besides, we can't get them in full or even burst mode, so that point is moot. Test it against an MP5, or other well known more modern weapons, not against ww2 firearms. Frankly I'd say the old guns held their own.

    The Grease Gun was used by US forces for 50 years and served in Desert Storm. The tactics used in Desert Storm aren't that unlike what we use today. So I'd wager that the Grease Gun would still be very effective in properly trained hands just like a revolver is for people that still carry them.

    The grease gun was still in service in 1990-91, at least technically. I have heard stories of new M1 tanks arriving with new old stock grease guns in the turret, still in their foil wrap. The grease gun was used by tank crews from day 1 due to its compactness and the ease of barrel removal to make it even more compact. I remember a demo from TacTV where a grease gun shot smaller groups and was more controllable than a UMP45, due to its lower cyclic rate and greater weight. I have long felt the grease gun did not get its just due

  • @Mike-01234

    Why compare 2 guns that are 74 years old to a modern firearm seems better to compare the Kriss to an HK MP-5 or an AR15 9mm. The M3 was a cheap 20$ mass produced firearm with one goal fast mass production 700k were made.

    • @TheJudoJoker
      @TheJudoJoker 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kriss is by far the best SMG ever made because of the recoil mitigation system. The MP5 is a very good SMG as well. It is a lot cheaper than the Kriss because the design is more traditional. The MP40 was a great SMG that was far ahead of its time...
      1- Kriss Super-V
      2- MP5
      3- MP40
      then a pretty substantial gap to pretty much every other SMG

      Hennessy Blues Well unlike cars, firearm technology has really only improved when it comes to ergonomics and materials in the last 50 years.
      We still use the same exact bullets we did a half a century to a full century ago.
      Firearms are considered a very mature technology and at this point it is hard to make legitimate improvements on them. (cars are also considered a mature technology but unlike firearms there have been significant power and handling improvements, not so with firearms)
      Did you know that the modern looking AR15 was developed in 1958!!!!
      Not so modern when you take into consideration how old the platform really is. The new stuff, is mostly ergonomic and material related with minor improvements to the ammunition.

      It would be a more proper comparison but you can't make a plug for the civvy market with it. You want a UMP, you'll have to buy a kit for nearly 2k and then find someone with the tools and savvy to put it together for you. US citizens aren't oper8r enough for HK to sell to us.

    • @exyiaevox
      @exyiaevox 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Delta7525 isn't it similar with a kriss vector? thought they came with longer barrel and non-folding stock unless you jumped through similar hoops (I'm not familiar with the process, it's an actual question - not being a smartass)

    • @Delta7525
      @Delta7525 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy the kriss as a pistol and attach the stock later or buy the rifle and have a smith chop the barrel for you. Getting the base gun is easy too. With a UMP you have to find a used one that's been chopped up and build a new receiver from scratch. I'm unsure as to whether or not you would also need to have a plastic welder like you do with G36 rebuilds.

    Thanks to Vickers Tactical for running this 4 part series(I wish it had all been one part, but...). Definitely dug it. I am glad that it was ONLY .45 ACP. Mix in 9mm, or some of the more obscure rounds for a sub-gun would have ruined this review.

      Jon K And now that I read a lot of the other comments, most are complaints about why this sub, or that sub, was not presented.... They are not .45! That's the whole point! The best of all sub-guns would be a different animal altogether, agreed?

  • @archangele1
    @archangele1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have fired a 'Grease Gun and the Tommy Gun and to be frank, the Thompson is the only
    one I can shoulder fast and hit with. I have not shot the KRISS but have shot
    other compact guns like it and I can not hit the left side of a barn with them
    because of how they shoulder, the short sight picture and how they fit me.
    The Tommy Gun has it's issues. Myself, I own a 1927A1 semi auto
    version and I would prefer it over either the grease gun or that KRISS Vector.
    But that is just me and my personal preferences.
    The Thompson is a heck of a lot more powerful then any of those 9mm carbines.
    The Thompson does take a lot of getting used to and it is very heavy in
    comparison to the other two he had in this video. In fact, it probably weighs
    as much as both the other guns put together. But, it has virtually no recoil or climb
    especially if it has a Cutts compensator at the end of the barrel like mine does.

    • @craigscott5661
      @craigscott5661 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SHOGUNnYAMATO Shogun the Thomson mag is 8.5 inches and the grease gun mag is10 inches but keep in mind the grease gun holds 5 more rounds.

  • @JaneDoe-ok9lz
    @JaneDoe-ok9lz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Open bolt guns that have rear bolt hold open after mag is empty mechanism like the thompson have an advantage over closed bolt because you don't have to release the bolt to put a round into the chamber you can just put new mag in and fire.

  • @Sedan57Chevy
    @Sedan57Chevy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    *cough cough* Thompson. How many Germans and Gangsters got it at the hand of a Thompson? Sure, it isn't the best gun in the world but it's not a bad gun by any stretch. Grease Gun is a classic. The Kriss is cool but this video showed that for all it's improvements that it supposedly has over older designs (Thompson is 90+ years old), it wasn't really any faster. Anyone with experience with a Thompson can load it all day long without problems. Might not be as reliable, but like I opened with: It was effective in it's day and deserves respect, not to be bashed when compared to modern technology.

    • @qj877
      @qj877 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I couldn't understand why they were so down on the Thompson from the start. In reality, the Thompson and Grease gun are both veterans and deserve equal respect. And the Kriss will probably be used in movies and video games more than it will ever be used in real life lol. We can't buy them in full auto as civilians, it's not practical in full auto for military or LE, and I wouldn't even consider one in semi auto. Basically, its a toy. I don't think it will be replacing any mp5 in anyone's arsenal.

    • @wezmarauder2754
      @wezmarauder2754 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sedan57Chevy "How many Germans and Gangsters got it at the hand of a Thompson?" Comparatively few. Most gangsters got it in courts and then in the electric chair. Others rotted for years in prison and were wasted by rivals inside. Knives and pistols were far more common worktools for people in the 1920's mob. They were cheap and easy to hide. With a knife you could waste somebody quietly too and send a message too. Old-school "Guidos" (derigatory for Italians) carried knives with pride back in those days.
      As for the Germans. Sigh. The M1 Garand was far more common than the Thompson so out of the Germans wasted by Americans the M1 easily dominated. Not that matters because 80% of all Germans bit the dust on the Eastern Front. They "got it" by Ppsh41's and Mosin-Nagants. A lot of them froze and starved to death too. You can check up German army historical sources like Feldgrau to verify.
      That aside the Thompson was designed for WWI conditions and its drawbacks - namely its' cumbersome size became apparent in WWII when much of what had been learnt in the Spanish Civil War and the Finnish Winter War dictated designs.
      As for its efficiency in its day. The German MP40 was very accurate, the Ppsh41 was fool-proof reliable and cheap to mass-produce and the Sten was cheap, very simply to produce, compact and accurate for a submachine gun. It may not have been the most reliabile weapon but tons of them very readily available so if one gave up you could easily replace it and had back-up from others wiedling the same weapon.
      On a single weapon basis the Thompson *was* effective , but when one takes the price (they were expensive) and time (a luxury they didn't have at war) required to manufacture one its efficiency was clearly diminished. This is why the M3 "Grease Gun" was developed in the first place. Stamped parts, cheaper and faster. Better for paratroopers, tank crews and auxillary units to whom the Thompson was ungainly.

    • @Sedan57Chevy
      @Sedan57Chevy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Come back once you have first hand experience firing a Thompson, as well as the rest of those guns you mentioned and then you can begin to make statements about what's "more accurate". Accuracy in terms of a fully automatic weapon is negligible. And while yes, the M1 Garand was a more wide-spread weapons, the Thompson was used not only in WW2 but also in Korea and Vietnam, both in the hands of US forces as well as those countries' military forces. As well as the other side using captured examples. The Thompson might not be a perfect gun (it is a bit heavy and cumbersome), but it did its job and I think that's what counts.

      What I mean was that I have no idea how you could mechanically get a gun to fire twice. Full auto open bolt and closed bolt, and semi auto open bolt and closed bolt are all easy to do. But burst? How the hell do you even do that?

    • @MrHipppo2
      @MrHipppo2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      spraynpray theres a rotating circular notch system in 3 round burst guns i imagine its along the same lines. though knowing kriss its probably just magic lol

    • @spraynpray
      @spraynpray 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine it can only be done mechanically in a method that I wouldn't personally consider reliable. I'll look it up later and then google complaints about it.
      ...does it reset if you have one round in the mag, ask for a 2 round burst, but it can only fire once? Does it fire again when you put in a new mag? My brain hurts.
