    Sue and I have been winter camping for many years and this video sums up the importance of making winter changes to your routines. We have been outside in the cold doing many of the things you have mentioned in preparation for our December tour that starts tomorrow. Thanks for all the useful tips and reminders 😃🚐👍🏻 Trev n Sue

      We are on our planned adventures full time now, more drafts from our Cab than I had from my Truck.

      Your habitation tips a real help.👍

      The older Ducato cabs have huge ventilation slots in the door. I used to tape over those in the winter.

    Great tips Bob! Especially about lights. It’s amazing the amount of people who seem think that because they have DRL’s on, it also means the rear lights are on! They’re not!

      I don’t know if this is absolutely correct but a number of people on a forum said that modern diesels should not be run on idle, as it doesn’t get the engine up to temperature. The day before I was sitting in my cab for about 20 minutes and the temperature needle never moved. I guess that the advice is kosher.

    Hi Bob execellent advice and well presented, the only tip I would add is regarding the winter fuel diesel which is usually available form Oct onwards as this helps with the engine as when not being used as much.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes good point, my understanding is they introduce winter diesel mid November, so it's best to use your summer diesel before then as it doesn't work as welcome in freezing conditions.

    Hi Bob and Jenny We have just bought our first motorhome and are so excited for our first outing on the 17th Feb thanks for the tips.
    whilst I'm on could I ask, following your videos on generators which would you recommend the Ecoflow, Jackery or maybe a 4Stroke especially if off gridding. Regards Paul & Ang. Southport.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I confess I'm not keen on petrol generators, especially if I have parked next to them. Both the Jackery or EcoFlow are good choices and linked to a solar panel can be charged in a environmentally friendly way.

    Some good advice here Bob. Today I drove from Scotland to the Midlands. Admittedly not in the Motorhome. It was a work commitment and so I was in a car, but also watch out for the idiot drivers on Motorways. I was concerned when a driver passed me with no rear number plate at approx 90mph. I did smile when I passed the same car and the Police 10 miles further down the motorway. They'd caught him/her before they had killed somebody. xx

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo

    Another good tip……… if it’s foggy and you always drive with your lights on auto, the fog will give your sensors a false reading, thinking that it’s brighter than it actually is and turn off your lights. You’ll think your lights are on when they aren’t and you won’t be visible to other road users

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Bob great information, correct me if I am wrong but I am sure the agilis Michelin are snow and mud approved and of for Europe M&S

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is quite confusing the Agilis tyres do have the M+S markings but my understanding is they are not true winter tyres, just better in mud and snow. True winter tyres should also have a three peaks mountain symbol with a snowflake on it, which the new Michelin Crossclimate tyres have.

  • @TheIrishMegaphone

    Bob can I ask your advice regarding carrying water in the tank. We have a winterised Hymer. Surely a winterised van can have the water in the tank even in very cold conditions? I thought that was the whole purpose of winterisation and winterised vehicles. In our case we don’t have a specific tank heater but when the gas heating is on, I can feel the warmth when I lift the lid to access the freshwater tank in the floor. Are you being a little over cautious in your assessment where winterised vehicles are concerned? Would it not make sense for us to leave the gas heating on at a low level - for example if we wanted to leave the vehicle for a few hours? p.s. we also have the truma cs system.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said our Motorhome isn't winterised, as the tanks are outside so yes I'm being cautious. If I had winterised tanks I would offer different advice and carrying a little water would be OK.

  • @claireheath4803
    @claireheath4803 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s the idiots who insist on driving with just their day riding lights on and don’t realise they have no lights on the back of their vehicles . We are always telling people. Only recently we stopped next to a young girl at a set of traffic lights. It was around 4:30 pm and every other car had lights on. Her response, it wasn’t dark enough. The mentality of these idiots never surprises me and it’s these ‘wont be told brigade’ that cause innocent people to be involved in accidents

    A little anti freeze in top tank on toilet

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a flush tank, but I wouldn't want anti freeze in my toilet especially as I am using a non chemical toilet fluid in Solbio. If you have to, do not use Ethyl Glycol based antifreeze as this is toxic and harmful to wildlife.
