Great tips! I also put out Chinese takeaway pots full of uncooked rice around in different areas in my van. Lids off. The rice absorbs any moisture or damp in the air. Or you can use salt in the pots. Break up any crust that might form on the salt. Dry them out at the end of winter, lids on, store till next winter.
Ah, rice and salt. Yes they will certainly absorb moisture. We assume no mouse has come and dined on the uncooked rice? Thanks for watching and your comments.
Hi both, hope you are well. Another pearl of wisdom from us newbies. Don't leave your hand brake on in winter during storage, we learnt this lesson the expensive way, this was advice from a mechanic. He suggested leaving it in 1st gear if poss.
Our Moho is an old Bessacarr E795 02 plate in a very good condition and all systems are easy to fix or repair, unlike the modern versions which can be an expensive nightmare.
Running the air-con is also good for dehumidifying, I put it on internal air circulation when doing a small winter run as this helps draw moisture out of the air.
Absolutely love your your channel, and the content is fantastic, we hopefully, will be starting our adventure 2022 (if not sooner). To keep the starter battery charged I use an Ablemail AMT12-2. Not exactly cheap but has kept our starter battery charged through periods when the engine isn't run.
@@LiveforTravel The AMT12-2 trickle charges the Starter Battery from the Leisure Battery when the LB gets above a certain voltage. So when the Solar raises the SoC of the LB and its voltage rises it then charges the SB. I have one one our 2017 590.
Some good advice there for newbies, must be a nightmare not having the van at home, we tend to de clutter around now (did it yesterday actually) and rather than keep stuff in the van we have an overnight bag ready, we’ll also keep stuff in the cupboard at home so we can take a meal and drinks easily, usually 20 minutes max and we can be in the road. Also this time of year if we’re only going for one night we don’t use on board water tanks and return to the old vw mindset and take a Jerry Can and this saves us having to drain down again.
Ah ye olde VW mindset. Good logic. We don’t mind the van being in storage apart from the extra £430! Could store classic cars for that amount eh Rick?!
It’s difficult one that. When you use the van and sleep overnight if there is little to no condensation in the morning it is presumed the ventilation is sufficient.
Great advice. I remember our moho routines well before leaving it in storage, and one tap in a particularly difficult to reach area beneath the fixed bed which Bri used to curse about (thanks Elddis!). We used it throughout the year though so no problems encountered except for the mouse at the storage unit which chewed our armrests. We were told they didn't like mints but this proved untrue as it ate a full packet of extra strong mints in the glove box 🤣. Anyway long story short, we caught the blighter, released it and changed storage areas! Much easier with my little van on the drive now, wouldn't fancy the bigger unit and whole storage thing on my own 😊
Mouse in storage?! And he wouldn’t be paying either 😊 I would be miffed Sue. Note made: mints don’t work. Thanks for watching Sue. Fran, Paul and the Minions.
Hi, thanks or the winter layup video. I've had no luck trying to source the winter covers you fitted to your van, Brownhills don't list it on their website and I can see from the forums other are struggling to locate these Thetford accessories? . I have the same T Line 590 2021 as you and have valued the research you've carried out over the last year. Thanks Jon
i guys, im new to motor homing. i follow what my dad used to do, by leaving "bella" hooked up to the house using the mains hook up, occasionally i take it for a 10 mile or so drive. i had considered putting her on axle stands over the winter and removing the wheels completely, but that would mean putting the wheels back on every two weeks. thoughts on any of these ideas would be gratefully accepted.wozza
The range of peoples opinions vary on this one. We don’t think there is a particularly right or wrong answer. Leaving the van plugged on EHU constant, providing the charging system for the leisure batteries in the van is a good one and prevents overcharging, is no real issue. Our personal view is that this is a waste. The solar panels on our van look after the leisure battery just fine over winter. There is a misconception that all Motorhomes, when connected to EHU, also charge the vehicle battery. This is simply not the case. Some do, some don’t. You would need to check with the specific builder of the Motorhome. Driving the van and getting the engine to full running temperature is definitely better; at least for the engine, as this removes any moisture buildup in the engine and exhaust. We hope you make many memories in your Motorhome.
Great advice., thankyou, we’re new motorhome owners (this summer) how do we re prime the boiler? Is it a case that it pumps more water back in when switched back on ? It’s a Bailey 765 with Aldi heating., excuse my sounding daft , some good tips in your video 👍
Thanks. The Truma boiler in our van will fill when the fresh water is filled and the pumps on. Just make sure any frost protection valve is closed first otherwise that water will pump back out again. We wish you many happy memories with your new Motorhome.
Final part of this reply is a copy paste to another similar question but with regards to heaters etc, we wouldn’t bother. A modern Motorhome has more than enough ventilation. We believe the best option is to allow the air to circulate, leave blinds open and let the van breathe as it was designed to do. The following is a copy paste. Thanks for watching and your questions. “The range of peoples opinions vary on this one. We don’t think there is a particularly right or wrong answer. Now there’s a video in the making! As of now, we had the glass lid come loose on the hob (fixed by tightening the screws) and the Truma flow pipe came adrift which caused the system to have errors. Found on the habitation check.

Super advice as it's our first winter with a motorhome, many thanks. Like you we were previous Camper King owners so a big and wonderful change. 👌

We leave the grey water valve open which seems to prevent smells.
