THANK YOU! Awesome video. I bought the same exact one (I thought) and after moving the hazard switch over and doing all of that, I realize that the power plugs do NOT fit! even though they sell it as for a 2005 - 2013. I will return this and buy the same one you got. Good to know also that you don't need all the wires they send!
@@chue-maimouavue1125 If your truck has the JBL system you must buy one compatible with that. It is a nightmare. Also, I hate that radio. It is so clumsy. Also. If I hit a big bump it falls out! I wish I would had spent the money on a name brand radio.
@@RoundTownWithMikeThe wiring harness did not match up multiple times after trying to get different ones from the Amazon manufacture, because I have a JBL audio system. What stereo do you recommend I get instead? (Name brand) I have a 09 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner.
@@RoundTownWithMikeI’ve tried to order the same product from a different company on Amazon but the harnesses still don’t match is it because I have a different audio system? (JBL)
Great video, very informative, I have the same unit and did exactly what you did but the rear camera doesn’t work, I have power going all the way to the connection at the back of the stereo but I have no video on the screen, I tried finding something on the screen to program the video but nothing, did you have any issues with this? Can you advise? Thanks
I couldn’t tell in the video if you tested the steering wheel control buttons. The link you have for the item has a description image that says the buttons work with the new radio, but I looked at one of the models with more ram and cpus but couldn’t see if they also worked with the steering wheel buttons? Do you know if they will work? Thanks!
Still working. I would recommend this if you want the cheapest one. But there are newer models with faster CPU and more memory. My bro said every now and then, this screen blank, but always comes back on after turning off then on.
@@GearGadgetExperiments Cool. Your video helps a lot! I see you had some of the same issues I did. I am sending this one back because the power harness does not fit and I ordered the one you got. Its all exactly the same except for the harness plug. Weird. I hope this one works!
hey i got the camera to work, but i have to go to the HD2 Streaming App on Android Auto to get it to work. how do i get it to automatically show up when i put it into reverse when i’m on carplay? (i have it hooked to the reverse light but it only shows it losing signal in the app once i take it out of reverse)
Sorry I don't have Android auto, so I am not sure what you are referring to. But I did not need to do anything special for the back up camera. The backup wire senses when the car is in reverse and switches to the camera feed regardless of whether I am in carplay or radio mode. Are you sure the reverse light is hooked to the right line one the unit? I forgot what the line was labeled on the unit itself.
@@GearGadgetExperimentsOMG I GOT IT TO WORK!!!! YAYY! turns out i connected one of the wrong wires, i didn’t have it connected to the pink one labeled “BACK” 😭😭
@@GearGadgetExperiments thank you so much for making this video, my tacoma has manual door locks, manual windows, the old radio with a broken disc driver, so i really wanted to modernize the truck as much i could, and i would have been much more stumped hadn’t u made this video for us all.
I am glad it worked out for you. Happy to help. Maybe some usb ports for your next modernization th-cam.com/video/2U2T1p5tHks/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ceRwy2TWgT1Hus24
Tip when you buy this kind of units for any car always buy the version that also has DSP for a way better sound
What is DSP...?

When you put into reverse, does the screen change?
Toyotas sound system is so good LOL
thanks for the grest video, if you dont mind can u tell what is model new car player?

Not really sure about the camera wire routing, Not sure where that hole in the floor is. I'll do some more looking. Well done video.
I found the bottom of the headunit loose, like the clips dont fit very well. Plus there wasnt any area to bolt it down with the original bolts.
So.... fellow Californian, how well does the screen show if bright sunny day conditions? Especially with light coming in side windows?
My bro says it is fine. He didn't even bother to turn up the brightness. I know my camera didn't do well directly facing the sun. Haha

We don't have steering wheel controls so I would not know.
pretty sweet bro.
Where can I get that white wire you used to extend/connect to your trigger wire for the backup cam
Links are in the video description
Does your steering wheel buttons work?
I don't have steering wheel buttons
I am wounding if the radio is still working if you recommend this product

Hey what year is your truck? Mine is a 2006 and the plugs do not fit to the truck.
2008

That is weird. I hope the new one fits. My brother said it works pretty well. But he said there is no AM radio. Who listens to that? haha
@@GearGadgetExperiments My wife does. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
haha, well, radio stations often have streaming service also, so you can usually get your station/show through an app that will work with carplay.
Good job
Good job 👏🏼
Can you send me the Amazon link? I want that stereo for my Tacoma, thanks. 😊
Link is in the description. They have newer models listed too. This is the older one but good enough for us.
