    Thanks Corey. This along with Ross-Tech's instructions clarified everything for me. I need to get the IP to the center of the slots as I see the VDCS graph shows that the electronic advance ability is hindered by the IP pump position

    Great video, straight to the point and informative

    Thank you for this video. After replacing my timing belt, water pump, pulleys etc. I've watched several timing videos now to ensure I'm doing everything as per the specs and yours has been the most informative by far where this stage is concerned.
    To anyone thinking of timing their VW ALH without VCDS i.e guesswork I would suggest you reconsider. Have read tales of people wrecking their engines by not doing it correctly. There's a reason these things need setting up the way they do so don't be tempted to listen to any old back street cleetus. Do it properly. Get the cable, get the software. Far cheaper than fixing a broken car. I don't understand why people would even go near their timing if they're not going to do it properly :S

    Good video, Cory. @1:03 there's are 3 clips on top and two at the bottom. a long thin screw driver helps to unclip them and to put them back on. Another hint is to mark the hardware on the pump, so you can go back to where you were if you screw up.

    Cory you are excellent at explaining everything step by step with detail we need people like you to make more videos of stuff like this. great job and great mechanic skills not sure but if you did a timing belt change video that would be very appreciated. great work!!

    It would have been nice to see the timing on the graph when done adjusting.

    Nice video, however you forgot to mention this procedure needs to be done with the engine fully warmed at the normal operating temperature.

  • @ingusseflers6993
    @ingusseflers6993 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Engine was NOT warm enough! It's one of important thing to watch when you adjust timing...

    • @idparts
      @idparts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ingus Šeflers Completely correct! To get a proper reading engine must be at full operating temperature.

    Hi, If the engine is hanging from a hoist, does the pump have a peep hole to adjust the timing?

    can this be done with VCDS Lite?

    How much can I advance the injection timing safely? 1.9 TDI

    I need to run an emulator and its enormously frustrating

    Well looks ok..and seems clear and straightforward....providing you have the tools for that specific car..
    I would love somebody to show me a good video on setting the timing on an VW 1.9sdi 1997 1Y engine using a dial guage..
    I can see others VE pumps, (land rover..old VW...Volvo...A tank..VW turbo)...but the dimensions setting will be different. So does anyone know.
    I have a guage...l have the tools...but no measurements...l even have the time...😄😁👍

    What should be done first? IQ adjustment or injection timing adjustment?

    Thx for that vid! Is it the same on VW T4 1,9l TD engine? Once the timing is changed, the locking tool can't fit in place anymore at TDC, doest it?

    pls, can we do this operation by using "VAG CAN PRO" ? if yes, How ?

  • @mark-1234
    @mark-1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm using the Autologic scanner and I have a function called "toggle basic setting" which supposedly puts ECU in calibration mode. In that mode I show to be out of time. In the other I'm in time. Not sure what to do with that.

    My tdi will not start and I think it’s due to the injection pump timing, is there any way to set it manually so it will start? I see the program you can use to look at it but the engine has to be running and mine is not

    • @thomasjackson6289
      @thomasjackson6289 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you removed the injection pump? When you install a new pump it should be set with the a pin at TDC and the cam, crank, and flywheel should be tdc as well. Once installed correctly the engine should start given you've primed the pump and injectors. It needs to be further timed afterwards with vcds for precision.
      Did your pump jump time?

  • @Rollincoal311

    Is it possible to do this without vcds? I had my car scanned and I am close to the red line. Is it just a small increment I need to adjust or is it like half and inch movement?

    • @idparts
      @idparts  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely don't want to do it without VCDS or some other scan tool, because you'll have no idea how much you're adjusting your timing--it's not really something you can eyeball.

    • @Rollincoal311
      @Rollincoal311 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually I tried it and got it bang on was 2 light smacks maybe moved an 1/8th of an inch got it perfect to the green line. Car starts in -36F every morning. It's the same as any other engine really have worked on many and done many nothing different here except the money grab scan tool

    • @briggs1337
      @briggs1337 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rollincoal its not a money grab tool you need it to do you could really mess things on

    • @mikedee7757
      @mikedee7757 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rollincoal And how would you know you're bang on the green line without a graph to refer to?
      The ALH is similar to other engines but isn't the same. When you set the timing up initially by locking the Cam, Crank and Pump this is mechanical timing. Without software comms you're only guessing where the optimum timing is. There is a BIG difference between luck and precision. Where my engine is concerned, I'll take precision.

    • @Rollincoal311
      @Rollincoal311 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Haha oh so its just magic ppl working in the field who can set timing? Its only possible by using a program? HAHAHAHA. Let me guess you're an American? Dude this isn't ticket science maybe to you and everyone you know. But to the rest of the world this is pretty simple shit. This coming from guys who do their own work and who can read. Lol. Precision well I'm glad you own your highly tuned Formula 1 engine. Not a massed produced diesel with crazy tolerances to allow for inconsistency haha. I hear Banjos bud and your cousins calling
