The only thing I don't like about this DLC is the absence of Jeralt. A story revolving around a man trying to bring back JERALT'S dead wife and he's not even a part of it? Imagine Jeralt facing the Umbral Beast, he'd literally be fighting his dead wife in a way. It's just a huge missed opportunity imo

He has been organizing this for 10 whole years, setting up ties with criminal groups, setting up the current Ashen Wolves, and going so far as to kill his students and even the child of the woman he likes, all for a woman that was already married to someone else, and he was cool with that. Didn't surprise me the Rite of Rising failed when I played the side story myself. Sitri's ONLY role in the main story lines is being tied to Jeralt and Byleth's history. She was Jeralt's wife and Byleth's mother. Her death dealt a heavy blow to Jeralt's spirit, altering his perception of Rhea and forcing him to stage Byleth's death with the fire that broke out on day 7 of the Wyvern Moon in the year 1159 so he'd have a reason to leave Garegg Mach Monastery. One of the key aspects of Byleth's origins is revealed shortly after what happens in Chapter 9. What influenced Jeralt's decision was his finding traces of what Rhea did at Sitri's request 5 days after the fact. Not that Rhea was in a position to give Jeralt full disclosure. Had she revealed the truth then, Rhea would've handed Jeralt an excuse to openly cause a scene and he would've fled with Byleth as a newborn. A man of Jeralt's reputation would've caused an uproar with such an act that it would be impossible to sweep under the rug. Side note: when I played the main game after completing the side story, I noticed a change in one key part of the monastery in Chapter 5 onward with the headstone for Sitri's grave. Her name is actually written there instead of being worn away. Of course, the original game prior to the DLC release had it that way since the name of Byleth's mother hadn't been decided at that point.

For my next playthrough, eh... I dunno. I’m definitely doing Blue Lions, but I don’t even know whether I want Bylad or Bylass.

So here's how the DLC goes. You play this story separately from the main story. But after you beat it and start a new game, you'll be able to recruit these 4 into whichever house you choose. I did it in my Golden Deer playthrough. - Yic
DLC wave 4 "Cindered Shadows". You access this from the main menu. After you beat this side story, the characters will show up in your main game for you to recruit.
The church is the overall organisation with the houses being sub groups that’s part of the church. The church itself can’t be a sub group that’s part of itself, so there’s 4 houses, but 5 factions as the houses ultimately have loyalty to the homeland rather than the Church.
The Church isn't a house of the Officer's Academy....The Church is the patron organization handling housing, funding, organization and the issuing of orders to students and teachers.
