  • Kenule Beeson ''Ken'' Saro-Wiwa was a member of the Ogoni people, an ethnic minority in Nigeria whose homeland, Ogoniland, in the Niger Delta has been targeted for crude oil extraction since the 1950s and which has suffered extreme environmental damage from decades of indiscriminate petroleum waste dumping.
Initially as spokesperson, and then as president, of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Saro-Wiwa led a nonviolent campaign against environmental degradation of the land and waters of Ogoniland by the operations of the multinational petroleum industry, especially the Royal Dutch Shell company.
He was also an outspoken critic of the Nigerian government, which he viewed as reluctant to enforce environmental regulations on the foreign petroleum companies operating in the area.
However, on November 10, 1995, Saro-Wiwa was killed by hanging by the Nigerian federal military government under the dictatorship of General Sani Abacha. #HistoryVille #KenSaroWiwa

Late Ken Saro Wiwa came from an Ogoni village called "Bane", not from Bori. Bori is the capital of Ogoni. His father was the first educated person in Bane village and I used to be Ken's father's friend for many years. The father told me a lot about Ken, Ken's trial, late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Ken's mother (who was blind then for her excessive cries over the death of her son), about Bane village and culture.

He went to Government School Umuahia, spoke fluent Igbo, joined the Federal government against the Igbos, headed in the selling the abandoned Igbo properties in PH, thinking that their possession would be handed over to his people on the platter of gold. Ogoni now is a cesspool of devastation, attaching importance to the fact that their oil possession shall never be in their possession.

Truly it was a mistake for Igbos to drag saboteurs like your type into our affairs. We stand back and see how devastated your area is let alone that abject poverty you seem to embrace. We pontificate that the full possession of your possession shall never be in your possession. Now it is 3%. There is more of where less than 3% is coming from.

The northern and fulani jihadist as well as northern barbaric military that has continued to hold the rest of Nigeria hostage via violence and at gunpoint, killed Sarowiwa as well as Abiola, Aguiyi Ironsi and many others...The sad part is that they do it in the name of Nigeria....The last time I checked, most parts of Nigeria, except the north as well as most non-northern Nigerians had nothing against Sarowiwa

He rode the back of the tiger and it finally ate them. Abacha was a different person from IBB, IBB cuddled him and Abacha didn’t have the patience. SaroWiwa instigated his supporters telling them that the village chiefs were enjoying was belonged to the Ogoni people, the village chiefs asked for FG’s intervention and before help arrived the supporters killed four chiefs and some escaped, that’s why his former employers ie the FG arrested him. The panelists that tried SaroWiwa includes the current CG of customs who impounded a bus brought into the country to celebrate his death anniversary, the bus is still in Grimaldi shipping terminal. Abacha seized the opportunity he got to end the ND problem as SW was trying to make himself the leader of the ND and making the chiefs the people’s enemy. He was a bold man that miscalculated.
