- Pai is so different from the rest of Thailand. It's a hub for backpackers and it almost feels like there are more tourists than locals here. Still, Pai is an amazing first stop on our Thailand motorbike road trip along the Mae Hong Son Loop!

The Mae Hong Song Loop by motorbike is not for everyone. Sure you can rent scooters and motorbikes in Thailand pretty easily, but this is no easy drive. Thailand has a high accident rate and people get seriously hurt! As a precaution, we made sure to get our motorcycle endorsements and International Driver's Licenses to cover our bases. Peace of mind and safety go a long way.

In Pai is perhaps the best sauna in Thailand. three more weeks and I'll get to the Pai Sauna complex and relax.
Hadn't heard of that. I know there's a really great mud spa and spa facility near Mea Hong Son City

You guy should give Vietnam a try. Northern vietnam is scenic and you can ride those scenic loops. The food is good and cheap too. Best time to go is around Jan and Feb, the weather is cool and not hot humid or rainny.
It's in our plans to go there this year actually. We probably won't make it there til March or April
You can enjoy our traditional dogmeat curry in northern Vietnam too.

How did you move your baggage with you? Did you just pack everything into a small daypack and left your main luggage in Chiang mai?
Yup. Pretty much. We just took all our essentials. Our rental company took one of our bags free of charge. In it it had the things we didn't think we needed. We basically took just enough outfits for about 4 days max. We were able to fit our bags onto the backs of the bikes with bungee cords (our methods improved over time with trial and error). I carried a bag with all our electronics, Sara carried a bag with all our clothes. I've also seen people just wear their bags, but that just didn't seem comfortable at all for long trips.
