My favorite misdirection really has to go out to how at the end of Season 8, they teased that Season 9 would be about Rick's group going up against Maggie's new group, and that Daryl would be a double agent on her side. I think that COULD have worked if they hadn't pushed away Andrew Lincoln by killing off Carl. Him leaving the show really ruined that plan and it's a shame. Having a mutiny against Rick as revenge for sparing Negan would've been a very good Arc and would've spiced things up considering how dull Season 9 ended up being.

2:00 this song hit me like a wall of nostalgia for The Walking Dead. The song is called Serpents, there is another song called Civilian that they play at the end of the episode "18 miles out" after Rick and Shane fight. These two songs give me such a powerful nostalgia for TWD words cannot describe.
Civilian hits me so hard and always had. Now being how the show has called hits me harder. Shane and ricks story being long gone makes it hit harder. Lol I drive by a field on my motorcycle sometimes and listen to that song to recreate the scene by myself lol
@@quartex5450 I totally get that sentiment. I actually have driven to the actual place where it was filmed. It's a simple crossroads but it has meaning now.
The Rick/Morgan Civil War setup in the trailers was honestly so hype. Then it never came to pass. One of the more interesting ones in my opinion was the Season 5 trailer, with the Hunters/Terminites, for some reason, going to DC with Rick and the group and putting aside their differences. Back around that time I knew nothing about what happened in later issues, so I thought it could've been plausible. Then Rick just mercs them in the church lmfao
I STILL rewatch the seasons 3 & 4 trailers constantly. I love how much they can make you speculate about what’s going to happen during the season. Even now, I love coming up with ideas of how things could have played out if they went the way the trailers led us to believe they were going.
@@connersmith1172 lol, glad I’m not the only one then! I always speculated that season 4 would have a story like the Thomas storyline in the comics based on the trailer for season 4

@@connersmith1172 I’d say the comics are well worth reading then. I think the show has some better characters, but the comics have a better story. And the comics didn’t milk the story dry, like the show did. The comics have a clear beginning, middle and end, while the show has an end in mind clearly with the crm, but they seem too afraid to get to that storyline, because they want to keep making money from the show before they reach the end. But yeah, in the comics, Thomas was one of the prisoners Ricks group finds at the prison and he ends up “taking out” two of Hershel’s daughters for good and scarring Andrea. It was super messed up.
The season 4 trailer saying that there was a killer might have been a nod to Axel’s original arc. Where he was supposed to be a serial killer. But then they changed it.
Misdirections eh? The biggest example in my opinion is the "After The Fall" teaser for season 4 of FEAR. They made us think Madison was going to meet Morgan and none of the filters were present. They actually had Kim Dickens come in and do voice over work that wasn't anywhere in the show.
They literally had posters that said “who will rise?” And a poster of a hand sticking out of the water, exactly like the ending of season 3, Just for them to literally have nothing to do with the season
"killing" maddison was so stupid. especially when nick was leaving the show. like why choose to wrtie out a major character whent heyre already forced to write out the main one
This is crazy. I started watching the show on Netflix back when season 4 was about to drop and thats when I started watching it live. I have NEVER seen a single one of these trailers. I have no idea why but I guess I just went into every season completely blind. (except for the last like two seasons I believe) I think this is why my experience watching was so entertaining tbh. But it's funny watching all these trailers now, its literally never something i've thought about.
as someone who has also been watching since the near begininng. seeing these comicon trailers drop and hearing my friends, and family's reaction it was incredible.
I just have to say, I loved every trailer and every season of the show. Maybe there were 3 or 4 episodes I didn’t care for, but overall I think it’s the greatest series of all time
Also I was really expecting to get more DC scenes in Season 8. Instead all we got was one episode set in one museum. It would've been cool to see the environmental story telling they could've done with the city. Seeing Rick's group go at least to the gates of the White House would've been amazing

Season 9's trailer and season 9 itself definitely made me love TWD again. I watched all through season 7 and 8, but was getting tired of All Out War. Season 9 made me fall in love with the show again, even after Rick was gone.
Thrifty!!! I’m 2 episodes behind on Dead City, so I’ll watch those today. Then, I can come watch your recaps/reviews. Thank you for consistently creating such fun, thoughtful, entertaining content.
Great video! Even though season 7 and 8 are the most disliked by many fans I actually really like the All-out War Arc. Re-watching and binging the show I thought 7 was pretty good and 8 was really good! I do understand watching them week-by-week it could seem a little dragged-out especially season 7. But on re-watch I appreciated it alot more
This is off topic but I have to say this because I love your thoughts and insights of the walking dead. You take the words right out of my mouth but way better than I could ever. If you need to explore a new series… I really hope one day you will consider going over Attack on Titan. I hope you consider because the way you dissect the show, storyline, characters… its all perfect for this show too!
My imagination was mystical at the time of the Season 4 trailer so I had hoped that Michonne pointing at the Macon part of Macon, Georgia meant we possibly could see Lee and Clementine soon (if I remember correctly, it was after TellTale released)
Great video idea! It's funny you made this because my family and I started a series rewatch a couple months ago and we've watched the trailer before starting each season and I've enjoyed seeing the differences between the trailer and show. The season 5 and 6 trailers especially are pretty funny to watch when you know what happens. I will say that the season 3 trailer does have a bit of misdirection. It makes it seem like Rick and the Governor are facing off at the prison while the Governor has both eyes. Not only do they not meet until he loses the eye but the dialogue Rick says is to Tomas and the other prisoners and not the Governor. Also, just a little nitpick, but Gabriel is in the season 5 trailer right towards the end but it is a very quick shot (like a second long, if that) so he's easy to miss.
As someone who has only started to watch Twd this year (I’m currently watching season 10) I loved this video, super interesting!! I like the deceptive trailer!! Love your videos!! They are fantastic!
I know you said the first 3 seasons were pretty standard but I would say Season 3 is also deceptive (not as bad as 4-6). It showed scenes of Rick and the Governor as if they were talking to each other but were from separate scenes. They took Rick talking to Tomas at the prison "It's our prison, we spilled blood" and then the Governor talking to Andrea "we're taking back what's ours" and put those together. Also when T DOgg, Daryl and Rick were walking towards Axel and Oscar, they paired that with the Governor walking towards the helicoptor which LOOKED like he was walking towards Rick. They also completely hid the prisoners in the trailer just like they hid the sickness in season 4. However, the overall war with the prison and Woodbury is still there in the trailer. They also hid Merle until the last few seconds. I see why they did it that way though. Rick and the Governor didn't have a scene together until episode 13. The Comic con trailers are usually just the first six eps because they start filming in May and SDCC is always in July. I still love this trailer though. I was so pumped for season 3-6. That tag at the end with Merle was one of the best moments in any of the trailers.
Damn. I never really processed how much they LIED in those trailers lmao. Been so long since seeing that s4 and s5 trailers that I’m stunned. But idk man, that s7 trailer was great imo.
something i wish you mentioned in the season 4 trailer is the part where the did a voice over of rick saying "you wont take the prison from us" over footage of the govener implying rick would meet him sooner in the season.
This is a topic I think is really interesting and could be explored in other shows as well. I’ll never forget watching Dexter back in 2008 and the trailer for 3x11 dropped at the end of 3x10. At the end of 3x10 Dexter is kidnapped and thrown in the trunk of a car and the trailer has you thinking f the whole next episode is gonna be him figuring a way out of this situation only for it to be a fake out resolved in the first 2 minutes of the episode.
also that intentional nod to Macon GA, at the time of S4 Teltales TWD game was already released, in it they go to Macon, so everywhere was full of Lee in TWD S4
I always remember each trailer for the walking dead the one which conflused me the most is season 6s trailer it made it look like rick was the villian for no reason at all, in the season morgans just normal no threat at all it was very strange
Trailer for Season 4 felt like they were trying to push for "back to the comic book roots" after deviating quite a lot from the original in Season 3. So the "someone's a serial killer" plot from the trailer felt like they were rehashing a story from the comic, when one of the prisoners was revealed to be a serial killer (the show in Season 3 just had him be a regular hot headed criminal who dies in the second episode he appears in). Then the trailer also tried to make you think like there was some kind if war going on at the prison, and Rick is losing it, and some of the characters decide to leave the prison (they had Michonne's joke line "your face is losing a war" cut down to make it "you're losing a war", and then we see Daryl leaving on a bike with a car following saying stuff like someday we'll have to run, or whatever). This whole thing to me reminded again how the conflict with Woodbury went in the comics, when the Governor comes to attack, even though the first attack is repelled, Rick's group feels outnumbered and outgunned and like half of the group just leaves, and most of those who stay then die in Governor's final assault. So maybe they were trying to tease comic fans with stuff like this.
Season 4 trailer was the best trailer we ever saw. We were in grade 9 and everyone in my class said walking dead was back in like one week then we watched it that afternoon and it was cool as shit.
Hey! Ready for this one, me and kids are doing a rewatch for me first for them, just got to Alexandria, noticed the episode where Tyrese dies (S5) was the first off putting/ badly directed (imo) ep in the series for me any thoughts on that? Might not be worth anything just stood out to me.
@thethriftytypewriter okay thats cool really saying episode might not be fair for what caught me up, alot of the artistic cinematography was odd to me. But hey cheers waiting to get off work and watch this video ha
I'll never forgive the season 6 trailer for making me think there would be a civil war storyline between Rick and Morgan... or season 8 for killing Carl.
They really made season 6 look like rick became some sort of dictator and took alexandria over and that rick and morgan are gonna fight for control of alexandria.
Surprised you didn't mention how in the comics, there in fact IS a serial killer plotline in the prison, which must've reinforced the idea of that being a plotline. Great video, still! As always. :)
So i understand that ftwd became sorta the main series after twd ended.(or when rick got taken out of the main show) for most ftwd became our main. But they seriously need to make a new series or actual focus on one series. After they finish ftwd. Daryl's show and dead city at the same time was kinda a questionable thing to do
For the season 9 trailer im a comic reader and i thought the whisperers were "variant walkers" when i read it. I didnt like it as a development but when the whisperers were revealed i thought that was one of the most shocking moments in the comic. Variant walkers have no place in TWD comic or show. Thats Of the Dead territory.
I actually watched TWD as it was airing but since I only watched amc when the episodes were actually airing, I was never actually exposed to the trailers. This is hilarious 😂
The Season 5 trailer was a huge misleading viewers that the Termites would join the survivors on the journey to Washington DC to find a cure, and the season 6 trailer made out that Morgan would be a villain and fight against Rick. And there were scenes from the season 7 trailer that straight up weren't in the season, stuff mustve been cut
I love how you dive into these episodes and character’s would love to see you make a vid on Red Dead Redemption 2 or Arthur Morgan and his character development. Like you did with the last of us characters and the walking dead Character love your vids 🖤🔥🤟
The closest thing that they did now, was the trailer for dead city, that they put that prisioner guy with a different filter, and made him look like a running /variant walker, that guy has no purpose, so, they didn't need to show him in the trailer, he was irrelevant, but still, amc played dirty
First 3 seasons are some of the best in this universe. The third season is my personal favorite of all time. After that it goes downhill and the show ends up destroyed after 8 episodes with the new showrunners. I really do highly recommend the first 3!
it's a shame about the ending of Season 6 and how it just torpedoed their chances to hype up Season 7 themselves. I remember seeing a comment in the post-episode thread for the S6 Finale like "now instead of knowing who died I'll get to find out from some random leak during the season break, that's much better /s" and it's so true. Forget the A List characters, they couldn't even use Sasha, Aaron or Eugene in the promos xD
I am rewatching the series with my wife and it’s her first time and she drives me crazy cuz if I won’t tell her spoilers she will look them up 😂❤😊 god love her but she knows we are getting close to Glenn’s death and she is currently very upset but we have most of season 6 left to go, we are watching the one where Daryl Abraham and Sasha come back and save the day. I couldn’t believe she had never watched it but she loves it as much as I do so I’m trying to get her caught up so she can watch dead city, we might skip Fear and world beyond unless she just wants to watch it but I don’t know I can sit through certain seasons again.
I’m shocked to see how many fans the show lost… and yet we are getting 3 spin offs?! (I didn’t start watching till like a year ago - thanks Netflix!! 😂)
On the topic of the Season 8 trailer, theres an awesome fan edit of the original trailer that uses a different song, which i think fixes a lot of issues with the original. Here's it is: th-cam.com/video/ihBlDzHLntA/w-d-xo.html
The best misdirection for me was them releasing Maggie getting Lucille'd in blurry leaked quality footage a week before the premiere. We had like 8 months to speculate, and by the 6th month people had drone footage of which actors filmed after that scene, potential leaked script, and more. So having a intentional leaked scene that was different than the rumors was kinda nice tbh

Only you can drop a 18 minute video about trailers and I’ll watch every second glues thanks for the twd keep it up👍🏾
Season 4 trailer was the best trailer we ever saw.
Hey! Haven’t seen it in years but I remember really liking it! Though it is for sure a controversial episode.
@thethriftytypewriter okay thats cool really saying episode might not be fair for what caught me up, alot of the artistic cinematography was odd to me. But hey cheers waiting to get off work and watch this video ha
The traitor at the prison was the prisoner who let the walkers in, causing T-Dog's death.
Now it makes sense why the terminus thing didn't make sense when I watched years later
Thrifty i love your outro music, is there a link or something i can use to listen to the song?
“…i kno-RIICK!…I could stop him…”
missed the premiere! #REPLAYGANG
I'll never forgive the season 6 trailer for making me think there would be a civil war storyline between Rick and Morgan...
or season 8 for killing Carl.
Fun fact the trailers aren’t available in Australia
I enjoy your TWD content Thirfty 😊
They really made season 6 look like rick became some sort of dictator and took alexandria over and that rick and morgan are gonna fight for control of alexandria.
Hey Thrifty, who’s your least favorite character in the entire show?
There’s plenty of one-off characters that I don’t care for, but as for main characters I’d say Rosita.
I can see that. Thanks I’m ready to see what you think of Dead City in its entirety.
@@thethriftytypewriterlet me guess, is it because her whole attitude during the Savior war? Because that really made me dislike her.
@@NiqRipple tho tbh her shooting lucille made rick win bc thats why they took eugene
Surprised you didn't mention how in the comics, there in fact IS a serial killer plotline in the prison, which must've reinforced the idea of that being a plotline. Great video, still! As always. :)
Gabriel was in the trailer for a split second, the same picture of him on the rock was in the trailer
It was very nice of Gareth to invite Bob to dinner. Too bad the meat was tainted though, it spoiled everything rather quickly.
Love how this is pretty much walking dead channel
Fun little thing, the “Human Season 8 Trailer is fucking great!
That ricks last episode’s marketing stunt worked on 2 people because it worked for me to
The Season 5 trailer was a huge misleading viewers that the Termites would join the survivors on the journey to Washington DC to find a cure, and the season 6 trailer made out that Morgan would be a villain and fight against Rick. And there were scenes from the season 7 trailer that straight up weren't in the season, stuff mustve been cut
They really lost a lot of opportunity killing off Carl 😪
Hey thrifty, how do you think the show would be different if HBO took the offer instead of AMC to air TWD?
Wildly different.
@@thethriftytypewriter can you make a video about it? just talking about HBO's different style and such.
@@shipslovetosink I actually might
The graph looks like the walls at Hilltop.
I love how you dive into these episodes and character’s would love to see you make a vid on Red Dead Redemption 2 or Arthur Morgan and his character development. Like you did with the last of us characters and the walking dead Character love your vids 🖤🔥🤟

Facts, the song choice was so off-vibe for the best of TWD, and all the action combined for a weird trailer.
The closest thing that they did now, was the trailer for dead city, that they put that prisioner guy with a different filter, and made him look like a running /variant walker, that guy has no purpose, so, they didn't need to show him in the trailer, he was irrelevant, but still, amc played dirty
That’s the point.. they want mystery to what happens.
I was wondering if you had watched fear and if so would you recommend as people have had very mixed reviews from it
First 3 seasons are some of the best in this universe. The third season is my personal favorite of all time. After that it goes downhill and the show ends up destroyed after 8 episodes with the new showrunners. I really do highly recommend the first 3!
@@TheNickSweat thanks I’ll give it a shot 👍
it's a shame about the ending of Season 6 and how it just torpedoed their chances to hype up Season 7 themselves.
Bro I’ve thought this for years I thought I was the only one who knew this
Season 4 trailer was my favorite
Season 3 of fear is worth it
You should do a full recap of TWD Universe.❤️💪🏻🔥
how do you watch it on netflix is it america only?
what music is used 1:06 - 2:00? Does anyone know?
Season 7 and 8 are two of my favorite seasons lol
Why
what is name of the Song in the Intro?
I’m shocked to see how many fans the show lost… and yet we are getting 3 spin offs?! (I didn’t start watching till like a year ago - thanks Netflix!! 😂)
Season nine the new direction “DOWN”
On the topic of the Season 8 trailer, theres an awesome fan edit of the original trailer that uses a different song, which i think fixes a lot of issues with the original.
Here's it is:

My biggest question was always why does nobody talk about season 7.
Did you know that originally they were going to write Axel as a serial killer?
Yes I did! That’s a crazy what if scenario
Damn that's crazy. He's my favorite one off character in TWD
Yea season 9 was just a sad excuse of saying the decade was ending
Hello mate, would love an episode analysis on scar (9x14). Love from Scotland 🏴
I did go to college so i had to pirate it 💀💀
Good video
Poor bob he was real cool I liked his character until he kept falling down
The one where the Morgan’s words were spliced was super fucking obvious, idk why you were acting like it was a listen again moment
9:09 JAJAJAJA
I am walking deads biggest fan literly ask me anything
How many times does Rick get shot or stabbed through the series?
@ThriftyTypewriter I have been watching ur videos for about a year and I haven’t missed a single one since, I’ve been a big fan of the soundtrack playing in the background and wanted to know where you get the music from, they played when Rick “died”. Also the one that you played before reviewing season 3. Thank you for making such great content keep it up!
