Whoa- I had no idea that shivering was normal. I shivered with my 1st kid and was told it was a side effect of the epidural. I didn't have an epidural with my 2nd kid and didn't shiver so this confirmed what I was told. But it's normal, huh?
My clients that birth in the birth center and at home (no meds) rarely shiver. This just goes to show that these people still don’t really understand normal birth and postpartum physiology.
Good information; a wealth of knowledge for me! I loved the information on postpartum shivers, about the vagina never returning to its pre-pregnancy size, about safe timeframe to have sex postpartum, postpartum ovulation and menses, and breastfeeding being used as a contraception (who knew!). Danielle Tropea yeah I think it does have to do with temperature change. I never get an epidural and I always get shivers at least once post partum
