About breastfeeding and active tuberculosis, I remember hearing from somewhere that the baby can be given breastmilk in some cases if the mother has tuberculosis, it just can't be direct nursing. But if she has mastitis from the tuberculosis, in other words, there's an active TB infection of the breast, then absolute contraindication to breastfeeding. But if it's just in the lungs for example, then the milk can be pumped and someone else who isn't infected can feed the baby the breastmilk from a bottle and thus the baby will get the benefits of breastfeeding without risking getting a neonatal TB infection. That's what I heard anyway.

I'm not a doctor or anything but I would guess the shivering is to raise the temperature to keep the baby warm as the mom holds the baby.

Standard observation period after vaginal delivery is 24 hours, most insurances will cover 48 hours maximum. Complications obviously change this
Personal anecdote, after unmedicated vaginal birth the shivering was due to the effects of adrenaline wearing off. Much like shaking after nearly missing a car accident
I quit breastfeeding. I saw 3 lactation consultants. My milk never came in. I was told that baby was getting enough and that I just wasn't trying hard enough to produce (feeding 30, pumping 30, break for 30, repeat). No more than 2 hours of sleep to promote milk supply. Baby was hospitalized for dehydration at 5 weeks, baby received iv and bottles. Continued pumping but produced 0.5 oz/day and dried up completely about a month later
Told that bleeding bright red 1 pad/hr and tennis ball sized clots were normal and not concerning, persisted until 5 weeks postpartum with bright red bleeding continuing until 3 months pp
Learning what is "normal" for school really highlights how rare "normal" standards of care are actually applied in practice

Fascinating, so different to see "typical" management for a "typical" delivery.

Yes! It will vary from country to country and even from provider to provider. Midwives often take a different approach from doctors. I tried to keep this as evidence-based as possible -- mostly gathered my information from William's Obstetrics text and from UpToDate, as well as my own experience.

Lots and lots of reading! I also did a ton of different electives in M4 year rather than obsess over one specialty. Practicing in a rural area where you see everything helps too!

During labor and delivery, your body undergoes a tremendous amount of change and often times, damage. Sometimes it’s vaginal tearing, hemorrhoids or even a C-section incision. The good news is that the body is amazing at healing itself. It just needs the right tools to be efficient. This is why it’s so important to eat a nourishing diet and continue taking your prenatal vitamins. One way to really help speed up vaginal healing is to let your under bites air out! Depending on how much bleeding you have postpartum, you may want to try to let your lady parts breathe. I bled for weeks. This led me to wearing pads, for weeks. Basically, I ended up with the equivalent of an adult diaper rash. That’s the least I could do, since that’s what I was advised by my doctor from Bio tex clinic. Talk about painful! I will never look at my baby’s diaper rash the same, my heart aches for them if I see one popping up. This could have been avoided if I took the time to lay in bed, and actually air out. You can lay a towel underneath you, and even cover up with a blanket. This is best done after bathing. Mostly, just do your best to avoid constant moisture 24/7

No insertion (including tampons, cups, toys, intercourse) until cleared to do so (usually at 6 wk pp follow-up as that's the next time patient sees provider after hospital discharge) after mc or delivery. To avoid infection
