    We won't be using that hosting service ever again, thankfully! Not a day 1 sellout, but I think everything worked out great in the end! All of us here are so thrilled that Scooby has already sold more units than any other title in Spooky history! And we appreciate the feedback and support from the community through it all. You guys make this all possible!

      So I just got the TNA CE. Have had it a week now. Love the game, still evaluating the issues. I got it because I played it and wanted it. I understood the gameplay, etc. would have loved to order scooby but I did not. 1-I don’t like the “tiers” of pins today. I, like so many others, want the full pin, not partial or “watered down” versions. So to many, the most expensive is the only pin and that is the cost. With that cost in mind, I have not seen the game in play. I watched the short release which looked like someone filmed it with their cell phone from an angle. There are more professional ways to do this, but something is better than nothing. I was also on the Q & A. It is great that they do this so anyone has a chance to ask what they need to know. I did not order 1- because I just bought T &A so this would really have to pull me in right before Christmas. 2-cost (going from CE) 3-Gameplay questions: looks like there are only straight shots and wire forms. The skirt capture is cool, but what else? Side shots? Pop bumpers? Main unique feature? What is it?
      I am not downplaying Spooky. They are competing in a niche market with heavy hitters (stern). The license and voice actors can’t be beat. They need build anticipation, raise the bar on presenting a new release (professionally), and set a new industry standard for pinball experience (announcement-ordering-communication-delivery-follow up-support/service).
      I would order this if I got excited about it. Was excited about the name, but that was it.

    I think an issue is, I'm a potential FTB and I'm waiting for the "perfect" theme for me, and I'm really hoping to go with the more established company Stern....so it would take a knock-it-out home run to rattle the wallet enough to jump in on anything but Stern currently. I lean Stern, JJP, Spooky, American, Pinball Brothers...currently

    This is a dream theme for a lot of people. I grew up watching Scooby Doo, but this is by no means a dream theme for me. It’s a game I want to play, sure. Own? Probably not.
    I think the game looks great from an art perspective, but it doesn’t look exciting to shoot. There’s nothing on that playfield that’s making me say “I really want to hit that shot, it looks fun.”. That being said, the apron ball locks, I do like a lot. Also, is Spooky allergic to pop bumper nests? This is 2 games in a row without a single pop bumper and I can’t think of a Spooky game with a proper pop bumper nest (of 3). Games can work without them, but it’s weird to me that a manufacturer would just ignore one of the most classic standard pinball features on almost all of their games.

      Pop bumper nests to me are a time where I sit and get bored. Played cactus canyon and I'm like "cool its counting down the 50 hits I need for a bonus". Sit for 6 seconds and see if I got the bonus, with no actual player input. Iron Maiden bumper nest at least serves a purpose in that if you slightly miss a ramp shot, you are stuck in the nest.

    • @Retrosys
      @Retrosys ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamGtr86 The nest in JP, I’d argue, also serves a purpose because you can hit that amber target with CHAOS lit if you can’t hit it directly from the left flipper through the pops.

    I put in a pre-order for a Scooby CE on their website. Was originally going to go through a distributor, but their allocation was full (was later notified that a spot opened up). I also have a Halloween CE that I bought using someone else's pre-order that they sold to me at a loss. I love the Halloween theme, so to me, it's worth the few hiccups that the game has. The glass has been off more times than any of my Stern games, but the game is a hit in my arcade room. Spooky games are a little quirky, and to me, I kind of like that about them. Scooby isn't my absolute favorite time, but I think it looks great and will be a hit with my friends and family.

    @TimCorley-tn7sh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i'll chime in here. i purchased a Halloween CE opening day....sold after 150 plays...passed on SD.. for me reasoning is quality of the product and market of pins in general...imho, Godzilla was the perfect storm...it is a great game, produced at the peak of the economy and folks having extra cash and still wanting to stay home and have things to do in lieu of COVID and pricing hadn't jumped up yet on the machines. it changed the expectations of games because of all these factors...i don't know that folks including myself will have expectation wise moving forward. Pinball hit its peak during COVID..i still think it will stay relatively strong (and i hope it does) but i don't think it will ever be at the high it was...the makers of these pins need to do something quick as rising prices for the machines, less expendable income for folks and less interest in the hobby will hurt them in the future..just my 2 cents...

    Cary, I think you nailed it (10:20) regarding the FOMO factor. People were riding high off of the Rick and Morty release and FOMO'ed in on Halloween. Then there were the gameplay videos, and people FOMO'ed out...hard. People started dumping their pre-orders on Pinside for a loss, and I think that devalued the Spooky brand / consumer confidence, and I think people now may be waiting to see more gameplay before shelling out $2k and possibly losing $500 just to dump their pre-order to someone who is willing to take the risk. I'm familiar with Spooky, and the support that I've received from them regarding the issues that I did have with my machine was top notch. I'm happy to add this machine to my home arcade.

    Spooky games are a good purchase if you love pinball. They are different and complex. But the main reason....you can't find their games at every pinball bar. I purchased Halloween. The nearest place to play is 1.5 hours away otherwise. I've found two more both two hours drive. For Rick and Morty I've found 1 that is an hour and 10 minutes away, one two hours away, and one 9 hours away. There is an AMH 30 minutes from me at Uleks. All the other titles i've only found at Crazy Martins which is the two hour drive (4 roundtrip). Which makes these unique and rare enough to own. Stern titles, such as Godzilla, are available absolutely everywhere to play. There are no less than 14 within a 30 minute drive. My local Pinball Petes currently has 3 LE's on the floor. I can't see buying something for thousands of dollars that I can play easily whenever I want for just a few dollars.

    • @CaryHardy
      @CaryHardy  ปีที่แล้ว

      One may argue that the reason they are not on as many locations is because either 1 - not many made in comparison to Godzilla's. 2 - they have issues with the games up time. When it comes to games on location they need the games running as much as possible. If they see that certain games are more prone to issues then they may not purchase them anymore.

    Former Rick and Morty buyer here... I had BSE#706 and I was very excited as this was close to the end of the production for this title (750 total) and I had hoped the QC issues had been resolved. I had nothing but issues from day 1... Game shipped with the incorrect flipper bushings and Spooky knew about this as they went with a thinner playfield. I probably spent 10-15 hours taking everything apart and re-arranging the metal guides in the game to get it to shoot less clunky (it was still a super clunky game even after doing this). The flipper knockdowns never went away even though Spooky said they has fixed it with code updates, incredibly frustrating. And lastly, the game would ALWAYS brick/freeze in a 4 player game on tournament mode, even 2 years after the game had been released. Even when I play Halloween and UM, those games brick/freeze as well... Overall, I'm not seeing anything from Spooky that says they are addressing and fixing these issues and it lead me to not purchase a Scooby Doo machine. Spooky, you need to hire some seasoned designers to come in and tech with the design process. You need to hire legit a team of legit coders so we don't have to wait 2 years for code to fully finished... You need to hire more QC engineers to make sure these games ship without issues. I'm already hearing TNA 2.0 is shipping with issues, more than the original TNA! Ok, thats all I got Cary, rant over.

This game looks good and love the theme, but I want to play it first. No FOMO this time. And the market is saturated. Lots of games being released. I’ve been waiting 13 months for my GZ. So many choices and my pinball funds and game room space are both finite. And….it was tough, but I gave TS4 a pass. 😂

    I decided not to purchase yet for the following reasons: I want to see more gameplay; Recent machines (TS4) have dropped in value after FOMO launch; I love the theme, but it looks like lots of loops that might not be that satisfying; This is Spooky's first wide body machine - Will there be issues implementing that for the first time?

    I absolutely love the theme of Scooby Doo and my whole pinball collection is actually horror themed. However, spooky seriously have some major engineering issues that they need to address before I ever buy another Spooky again. I’ve never had a pinball machine that is needed as much maintenance as Halloween. It’s broken more than it works. Spooky is a great company and I like the people that are behind the company. It’s just nice people doesn’t necessarily mean nicely built pinball machine And when you’re spending $9,000 on a game you expect it to be a certain quality that Spooky just isn’t quite delivering yet.

    My reaction to this game is identical to your kids. It was a Meh for me. I haven't been excited about a Spooky game since the TNA original release. Halloween was a blip of excitement, but not being a horror fan that died for me quickly. FOMO isn't ever going away. Look at the line outside of Apple stores for anything new.
    I wish some of these pinball companies would give younger themes a try. Younger themes won't appeal to all the adults buying pinball machines, but my kids have me wrapped around their finger and I'd buy a pin if they were hyped for a machine. Pokemon, Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, hell even Frozen if the train hadn't already left for this theme.
    You were the only one that had a Thelma crush on the planet.

    The current stock market/recession/economy might be a reason for their sales. I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions on their sales just yet. I want Spooky to succeed as it is important to have as many U.S. built pinball machines as possible. I would never want to see a new competitor pop up overnight from another country and overtake us. Pinball is as American as apple pie.

    I won't be buying a scooby doo because I already have a weird al on order, but even if I didn't I'm very hesitant buying any spooky game because of on-going quality issues. I give the ball stuck issues on AMH a pass because it was their first game. My rick and morty plays fine, but the whole flipper height issue and the terrible non-serviceable bent over wireform shooter lane ramp with stuck balls (forcing to spend another $60 on the pinball life version) rubbed me the wrong way (then seeing the lost balls on halloween).
    I know they don't have the budget of a Stern, but they've also had 8 years to figure things out. Seemed like Charlie really cared about quality in the beginning, but it's becoming more difficult to address every issue now that they are a major pinball manufacturer. I'm guessing they aren't ordering in batches of 25 anymore, they are probably stocking hundreds of game parts at a time (maybe the entire run).

    Hey Cary,
    Great stuff, as usual.
    My wife “loves” Scooby-Doo! In fact our two beagles are named Scooby and scrappy!!!
    10 years ago, I bought The Getaway HS2 because that was my wife’s favorite at the arcades when we were dating way back in the early 90’s. We still own and love it. Anyway, you’re damn right I wanted to buy my wife Scooby Doo because she loves the character and show so much. But I did not. I struggled with it but I fought the FOMO.
    Main reason is I didn’t buy it? It’s simple, haven’t played it yet. But here’s the catch… I got screwed on Halloween but that’s on me, not spooky. I bought one thinking it would be great and well, I didn’t like it at all. Again that’s on me. I was sour about it and almost didn’t buy TNA CE because of it. (Well that and the $9k price tag) But I decided to buy TNA CE because it’s a tried and true game that I know I love and have always wanted. Picking it up this week! Who knows, maybe they’ll have Scooby available to play and I’ll love it? To be continued…
    Rich

    Spooky needs to hire a new playfield designer… THIS THEME, at only 1969 units available by ANY OTHER manufacture would have been gone instantly.
    This comes down to 1 thing, and 1 thing only. Poor design.
    Too bad, Spooky gets some cool licenses and does the worst job with them.
    At least their artwork has progressed with each release. The artwork on Most Haunted looked like a child did it, the absolute worst art on a modern pin in my opinion.
    I want to love Spooky, but every other manufacturer does it better, way better… in every single aspect… Why should I spend $10k with them for an all around inferior design (amateurish when compared to Stern or JJ) I would have more fun if I had a Rush in my house, and I cannot stand Rush! And I LOVED Scooby, but there is no way in hell I’d put it in my line-up…

    The theme is a negative for me and every Spooky game has been a stop and shoot game without any flow. I'm happy to see that at least one company is making wide bodies again though. Love that spooky is showing Stern up on light shows. I need this company to make a flowy game with a theme that speaks to me. Also, please use the Alice Cooper magnet ball save again in the future. It was an amazing feature.

      If you look at the lower it's a standard size fan layout. The wide body portion of the lower playfield is taken up by the Bravery Meter. It's going to shoot like a standard. It will play faster than expected.

    The game looks decent enough, so it’ll sell a fair amount. Only issue I have with the game is the upper play field. So much wasted space with just a bash toy and in-lanes off to the side. Serious miss step.

      It's called oxygen destroyer, it's a ball save feature. You lost your ball down the right outlane, but it was saved since oxygen destroyer was lit. It's a temporary ball save that requires you to hit the building shot to save the ball. If you don't hit the shot in the required time, your flippers do shut off and you lose the ball, because you failed to qualify the ball save.
      It's hard on location to hear the game, so it's likely you didn't understand this was happening. Once you understand the feature, there is no reason not to like it. The other option would be you drain down the right outlane and get zero chance of saving the ball. That option sounds, not great.
