this type of sushi is ancient way to keep sushi longer for soldiers or men who go to work outside during old time where refrigerator not existed. it's pricey cuz of packaging as this can be a fancy gift.

Still fondly remember my day trip to Nara in 2010 even though it was a rainy day. Todaiji blew me away when I realized how big it actually was. The deer were adorable too. Really got to go back and visit.

I think that type of sushi is famous in only the nara region. I tried one which had more varieties of fish. I also realised that the sushi was a cooked type and took the aroma of the persimmon leaves. It was amazing. Nara was one of the greatest places I've visited for a day trip as well as the aquarium in osaka

Yes the mugwort makes the mochi green and the powder is kinako soy bean powder with sugar. The round pancake sweet is called Dorayaki similar to Taiyakiki (fish shaped). There is another one called Imagawayaki all similar but different shapes. Glad to see you had a good time in Japan. FYI mochi is eaten on New Years in a soup Ozoni . it’s suppose to be the first thing you eat on New Years morning to bring in the New Year. Do the Canadians have good luck meal for the New Year?

Nice Vid ... reminds me of
My trip to Nara last November...feeding those deers is definitely one of the highlights along with tasting those famous freshly made Mochi... the mochi isn’t sweet which balances well with the sweet azuki filling... walking back towards the train station we stumble across a tourist centre that serves free hot fresh coffee on a chilling day..... the simple pleasures in life makes it memorable
