It's great that there are laws to protect deers from being harmed or killed by humans in Nara. Other videos on Nara show how chill the deers are in this city, even when around humans. They some times just lie as groups on the side walks and cars slow down when passing by to avoid hitting any of them. In other countries, those deers would be hunt down for their meat or for sport.
Hunted in other country? No dude, just other place... they're hunted all over japan actually. just because these deers are making money for human by being alive in nara doesn't mean they'll have any use outside of nara. I personally wouldn't want to live in a place where animals roam free on the street... would be a traffic nightmare. Good for tourism spot, a nightmare for urban area.
Nara is an awesome place to visit. I was in total awe of the giant budha at Todaiji. Not to mention the two statues at the gate. But the deers give me flash backs of the run-in I had with the deers on Miyajima. They can get kind of aggressive and one of them sneezed on me. I had deer boogers on my jacket all day. :( Another great video John. Love your work :D Makes me want to go back....

my wife and I were there on Monday and she absolutely loved playing with the deer. The mochi making was also very fun to watch and the mochi itself was delicious! absolutely looking forward to going back next year and exploring more of Nara and hopefully Uji as well.

It depends. Videos are very easy to click off, as much as I like Japan I don't watch all videos about Japan that are 13min. Some are interesting, some are not, it depends on everyone's tastes. I've seen too many videos on street food and heard way too many people talk about the deer in Nara to sit through the whole thing. That said, it probably will be one of his most popular videos because Nara is a tourist hotspot and most people going to Japan will go there.

If you visit Nara, please do not feed the deer anything other than deer crackers. Deer cannot digest human food - sweet potato, chocolate and especially brown paper bags will do nothing but damage their stomachs.

The plural of deer is deer, just like sheep and sheep.
We visited these places two years ago and we enjoyed not only the deers but also Nakataniduo. The deers are just so funny too.

I really want to go to Nara~! As a kid i didn't like yomogi mochi but as I grew older it became my favorite. Same with Wasabi!
