- In this video I cover all of the details of the Rivian R2, and size it up to the competition. Is the Rivian R2 the ultimate upgrade from the Tesla Model Y? Will the R2 become the best selling EV? Join me as I analyze the competition.

The second they opened reservations for the R2, I placed mine. This will be the best selling EV period once they scale it.
Me too 😊
I agree, but it seems like the R3 will be even bigger than the R2, but only time will tell.
Thanks for commenting!
Same got my reservation in.
Keep in mind the R2 is two years away at best. The $45K entry price is subject to change. You know the dual motor with a few bells and whistles will be north of $55K. Who knows what other comparable ICE or EV vehicles will be available then. The model Y will be refreshed next year and Tesla has been ferocious at cutting prices to pressure competition. The R2 will not overtake the best selling car in the world. Also, the Chinese will be here by 2026 with very compelling products.
I placed a deposit on the R2 but will not pass judgement until production begins and I’ve taken a hard look at the competitive landscape.
Excellent response! Stupid op for using tesla killer to get clicks SMDH. The model Y sold over 22x rivians total sales just in 2023!
If anything should they survive Getting r2 to market? Rivian will likely take market share from other competitors not tesla.
I wouldn't be surprised just like with the r1t&r1s pricing shooting up and not coming anywhere near rjs promises price points?
If they pivot after raising capital to survive, and realize the r2 could be in the 50-70k range assuming full tax credit access.
As it is a more premium feeling land rover looking type of vehicle.
They would then steal sales from other 60-80k mid size ev 5 seater in the premium segments. Like the Mayan ev, polestar 4&3, merc egs etc
And make the much smaller compact cuv segment r3 the affordable version with 35-50k pricing. 🤔
Great take
Tesla can only cut so much, they are ALSO effected by inflation. Rivian has been good about their pricing estimates.
@@4literv6 Really? About 3/4 of Rivian owners are Tesla converts. I wouldnt go back to a Tesla for half.. ok maybe half... but not for even 3/4 the price of a Rivian.
I placed an order for the R2. Currently, I own a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Sport 3 AWD with a Level 2 installed in my garage
I was about to order a Lyriq, but decided to lease an R1S instead until the R2 comes to market. That Lyriq is really nice though.

All previous Tesla Klllers were acquitted.
🤣🤣It's a new day. LOL.
Well Rivian will be found guilty of attempted murder in the first degree, Assault, and aggravated battery with intent to inflict great EV Model harm😄
Aggravated *battery* nice ev pun ^
So…we’re not going to talk about charge port placement relative to the Supercharger network?
Or the fact that R2 is 2+ years away and in the 2nd most competitive segment in the US?
I’d be more excited if R2 was a year away. 2 years is a long time and the EV midsize SUV segment will be crowded…
The truck segment is crowded as well, but look at how sought after the Cybertruck is. I agree the segment is crowded, but the R2 is the only one that looks like a traditional SUV. The rest of the "SUVs" in that segment are shaped like bubbles and don't have the full size SUV look. Plus, none of them have a usable front truck, except for the Model Y, which doesn't look like an SUV.

Excellent overview! I would absolutely buy an R2 at $45k and an R3 even more if it was less. I love the R1S, but $80k is too much and it is too large a vehicle for me. Also, 300 miles should be the bare minimum, we need 500 to be the standard which would wipe out the ICE.
Thanks! I agree, the R1S is too big, and $100K is too expensive for the majority of people. Thanks for commenting!
As soon as the R2 hits the market Ill be switching from my Tesla model 3. Put my reservation in the first day.
Going to wait til it comes out and hear some reviews. Learned you have to do that with EVs. Early adopting these can be wild. Give it a few months once it releases. I also need to see if Rivian will survive a bit longer, and I hope they will.
I’m in the same boat as you my guy. I literally waited till December 2023 to buy my first Tesla. Probably gonna have to wait another five years to consider Rivian or Lucid.
You and me both!
Have my order in, this will more than likely replace our Audi E-Tron
Got my reservation in, coming out right around the time I'm hoping to upgrade from a gas vehicle. Excited for it.
R2 "fold flat" front seats are a passenger vehicle game changer. Traditional vehicle manufacturers are going to copy, for sure - Additional "feature" will probably cost more money.
I bet you are right!
Could be a competitor to Tesla if it gets built, it's a little away to go
We watched last night and am re-watching. Great video and Duke is an excellent content provider. Duke, do one on the R3 also at some point. The teal R3X with orange highlights and (what I call the Palomino color interior) looks sick (as the young folks say). Thank you as always.
Sick to Me only means "throw up"....Vomit......Bad news.............Paul
It’s amazing to keep a secret for that long, especially since RJ was boldly saying family of vehicles on every interview 😅😅😅😅 and we didn’t catch on with the clues.
Great point!
Yes, the R2 will be a better choice for us than the R1S because of new features and reduced size. I am still considering a R1T as my first EV after I did a test drive a few months ago. I have heard that R1 models may get some updates after the Rivian factory gets assembly upgrades this Spring. The new R2 steering wheel might be one possible upgrade. The R2 heat pump might be another R1 efficiency improvement to add. New R1T inventory online seems high right now so sales may have slacked off due to R1 efficiency limitations.
The "upgrades" will likely be more cost cutting measures which may remove more features from the vehicle because any significant upgrades will make it harder to move the current inventory. Also, sales have gone down for most of the vehicles in that segment at that price point. I will be making a video to cover that.

The roof racks have external power that’s the best part 👍👍👍 but I like R3 and listen to the other interviews they fixed the wireless charging as per RJ in one of the conversations.
Oh that's awesome! That will be great for camping. Thanks for sharing that information!
No camping for Duke for now. LOL. Thank you for your service, Duke! I just got back from a Rivian Auto Club (Rivian Stories Soon) Camping trip (3 nights) in Santee South Carolina. It was our first camping trip since 1996. I cheated and spent 1 night in a ground tent and 2 nights in a hotel room.
Great design.
Yea I like this way more than the Gravity it looks more luxurious even though it is scaled down and they are using different materials
I agree!
What you’re hoping and wishing for “IF” Tesla is doing it with Model Y. No IFS” literally number 1 selling car. Mass production totally different from prototype.
Definitely put an order in and it changed my mind from purchasing an upcoming ev to leasing. Love it. Curious about your thoughts on the port location controversy. Should they switch to Tesla location?
We will be leasing an R2 while we are waiting to take delivery of the R2. Also, I will make a video covering the charge port location. Thanks for commenting!
Have an awesome r1t and I pre ordered r 2 when I received the email for priority
Good choice! What color is you R1T?
It’s same as yours limestone ….. I actually had a reservation for the cyber truck for the last four years. Got tired of waiting but watch some videos on how happy a lot of owners were with the R1 T and that made me change my mind and I’m glad I did…. four weeks after I purchase my Rivian R1 Tesla contacted me to configure my cyber truck lol
I will be trading in my 2022 Model Y Performance unless it doesn’t have ventilated seats. That will be a deal breaker for me. I went to the event but I didn’t stay to check out the car. It would be harder for me to wait if I’d seen it in person.
That's awesome! Were you invited to the event? I would have loved to see it in person. Also, I agree, no ventilated seats would be a hard sell for me, but my wife doesn't care an the R2 will be for her anyway.

@@thedukeofmanville I didn't have an invite for the 10am announcement but I had a pass for the 6pm showing of the car. I ended up leaving early because I decided it would make waiting harder if I saw it in person. I just had lunch with people I follow on Twitter that does Rivian content and picked their brain on Rivian ownership.
I did a demo drive on the R1T and fell and in love. I may be taking delivery in a couple of weeks. I have a video coming out tomorrow on the R2 trip and my thoughts.
I enjoy your content and insight with owning the Rivian. As a Tesla owner, it helps me get an idea.
@@sherwinm Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to seeing your take on the R2/3.
@@thedukeofmanville I’m very excited because there’s now a competitor to the Model Y. I still haven’t heard anything about the ventilated seats though 😂 🤞🏼
Ok duke, what os your opinion in terms of follow through on the camp kitchen for example. Rivian discontinued their camp kitchen on the ev truck. I am a non ev owner yet....but if i had knew that eivian had follow through on the extras that inches me closer to rivian. Your thoughts?
Hello, Rivian didn't follow through with the camp kitchen for the R1, so I wouldn't base my purchase decision on them making it available for the R2. However, I'm sure a 3rd party will come up with one for a lower cost like they have done with many other Rivian products.

I don’t think the R3/X will sell good in the US so I’m happy they have plans to offer it in the EU. Really like the R3X.
Love the R3X! Teal R3X with orange highlights and (what I call the Palomino color interior) looks sick (as the young folks say).
@@dianewallace6064 lol, R3X is definitely fire, the designers surely stood on business, no cap. XD
The R3 seems to be the most popular between the two. My wife really likes it which surprised me. Depending on the price it will sell like hotcakes.
@@thedukeofmanville I really hope so, I would love to see more cars like it in the US for sure. Volvo EX30 is another option I was looking at to trade my Kona N for but not completely sold on it.
I dont think its a tesla kill but it will sell very well but nit a tesla kill i have bin hearing that for years and years now shocked ppl still using this term XD
Of course it won't kill Tesla, but it will lower their dominance in that segment for sure depending on the price when it come to market.
@@thedukeofmanville they both different ppl in a way if you want a off road capable SUV r2 is your choice but if you want a nice road triper and city car Model y for you
yeah but we need to wait two years :(
I wish it was just a little bigger. I like the higher ride height of the R1S, but could do with a shorter two row version. Sort of like a Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee L.
Does it have a heads up display?
It has a Driver display screen. 2 screens. One on the left for the driver and one in the middle. see 15:30.
No, It doesn't appear to, but there is a picture of the R3 that has what looks like augmented reality in the driver's display. That would be an awesome feature!
Both companies are going down. It’ll be a dual knockout.😂😂😂
😄
Get it out to the Market fast !
Get out of what market?
Can’t kill Tesla if you’re already dead🤷🏼
anybody knows have muchs trailer it can tow?
They said it will be in line with other vehicles in the segment. Not sure what that means.
Everyone compares r2 to model y. To me it’s like comparing a toyota sienna to a 4runner. Different vehicles who happen to have similar prices.
More room and you can put an air mattress in the back and not have to put up a tent 😂
I will be inside will the heat and air conditioning 😅
Like the R2 except price will be uncompetitive. Rivian is competing against the rav4 hybrid. The rav4 is 36k I’d guess the awd r2 will be 50k. Too much mone and late!
A tesla killer? How low have you sunk?
Tesla killer all day for me
Lol boxed up crap
