Alright, I'll give it a (very very VERY long) shot There are three different art styles from what I've seen : show's art style, Creator's art style and what I'll call "in-between" (like Lilith at the beginning). What I think this means, is that characters under Belos' influence are drawn in the show's art style, whereas characters who are free from the Emperor are drawn in Creator's art style (which is a great metaphor btw) The characters in-between are either not taking any side, or hesitating who to side with. 0.00 Lilith is drawn in this "in-between art style", which depicts her having regrets and doubts about following the Emperor, emphasizes by the lyrics "Got sick after writing 5" : she is sick of being here, she is going to quit Kikimora wrote 39, which shows how loyal she is to Belos : she wrote far more than Lilith, thus her being drawn with the show's art style. Plus, the lyrics don't suggest her quitting or having regrets, just stating that she did what she had to do. Hunter "wrote the other 51" : and obviously, despite Kiki's hard work, Hunter is Belos' right hand man for a reason. He is the most loyal, and the pictures quickly shown afterward prove that point : these are the times he went the farthest for Belos (stealing the key, his whole GG persona). Belos and Luz are glitching because they are the two sides, the two closest to Hunter (Uncle and friend) and the two characters of whom he's seen different sides (Belos being this protecting figure he cares for but also him being scary, especially with the atrocities he could do to Lil Rascal -the fact that Hunter only thinks about Lil Rascal in danger and not himself may portray how used he is to that, to the point that he no longer sees a problem in it or even may think it's normal ?-, and Luz who's both his enemy and somewhat a friend) Then new switch ! Scene between Luz and Hunter, and I may be mistaken but I really feel like this one is from Luz's POV. Why ? He no longer sees Luz extending a helping hand, he sees Lilith making reproaches to this golden brat for who nothing "is enough". Luz tries to reach out and immediately hunter's mind goes to the worst case scenario, what might happen if he did believe her and let go. Belos is also such a good touch, because real Belos would never scream at Hunter, display such emotion- but this one, the one Hunter pictures would absolutely. This is just Hunter's mind and anxiety amplifying tenfold his fears : losing his Uncle's support, losing all his self-worth. 0:53 I don't know what more to say, mental breakdown's fun I guess. This is the farthest from the show's art style Hunter gets, because Luz has succeeded in making him doubt and he's now questioning everything- not throwing it away, just wondering. First there is Hunter's opinion on others (somewhat innocent and hopeful) and then it changes to the one he's become used to have (jaded, wary, can only count on himself and Belos). He's confused, once again his black and white wolrd-view clash and he can't seem to be satisfied with the answer. Hunter's been told he's useful to the Titan's plans, and that's all there really is. It's pretty recurring for his character, which shows how important this is for him- it justifies his very existence to his eyes, and makes him all the more eternally grateful to Belos. So history having its eyes on him is referring to his role in the Titan's plan, and thus Hunter going from pathetically crying alone to being surrounded by everyone watching him, even the Titan. He was weak and powerless before Belos came in his life and made him someone, so he can't allow himself to be weak or have doubts now, especially not when greatness is offered to him. He has a huge part to play and he has to take the chance to make history, to be someone useful and worth existing. Lil Rascal disappearing broke my heart ngl, but since Hunter is looking straight ahead at his future and is thus ignoring Belos and the Titan behind him who look very keen on using him/hurting him, I'm going to assume that what is implied is "If Hunter blindly follows Belos' plan then he might end up losing Lil Rascal to Belos", and not "Unfazed Hunter does not care who he hurts to get where he wants, and could even sacrifice others if it means helping him". 1:10 And then we have Hunter pulling himself together. He's repeating "I'm not throwing away my shot" like a mantra, because he needs to convince himself- doing this is what gets him out of his spiraling thoughts and back into the real world. Interestingly enough, Lil Rascal is helping him in that thought ? May symbolize how Hunter is trying to make both "Being the great GG with a destiny like no other" and "Hunter whose only goal is to do everything he can, even studying wild magic, so as to cure his Uncle" versions of him coincide, like he focuses solely on these two things and pushes everything (and everyone else) away. 1:15 There we are in full show's art style, I mean we even get colours and all, it's crazy. Hunter is once again back to Belos, he had doubts and all but not anymore, he knows he's remaining loyal to Belos. We both see how desperate he is to satisfy Belos and how he's once again hiding Hunter under his whole GG persona, the one at Belos' service. Luz is in show's style because she "failed" to help him, so they're enemies once again even though she is clearly saddened by that fact.

Word can't describe how much I love this. The transitions, the drawings. Everything it's beautiful! Also, my theory: I think that the art styles show how much trust Hunter has in each of them. The part with Lilith it says 'admiration', and when the style changes it says 'traitor'; the same goes with Luz. And it also says in the desc that Belos is the only one who's style doesn't change, so I think that's interesting.
@@ripley3647 Perhaps it's that, and a combination of Hunter possibly pushing away any other figure that could have meaning in his life. They all could've been close to him, but when they changed or because of what they have that's different from him - Lilith rebelled against Belos, Luz practices wild magic and openly studies it, even though it's forbidden - Hunter forced them all away and became closed off.

Returning for my daily dose of heartstrings pull. On another note, I wonder if Dana knew when she made Hunter how the entire fandom would IMMEDIATELY grasp his complex character, the curious, concerned, caring teenager (which you SHOULD be as a kid & teen, young, joyful, still learning) who wants so desperately to please and be accepted, has so much pressure, expectation and conditional love thrust upon him in a literal militant environment where he has to train his body and fight the way only a 20 something should, not a 16 year old, and if she knew how the fandom would immediately just adopt him as their son/kin. It’s kinda like the Miraculous Ladybug heroes! Only it’s probably the opposite for Hunter. When he puts on his mask he becomes the Golden Guard and dissociates as one of the Emperor’s Coven members. But when it’s off… well, he gets to be himself 🥺
I think that Hunter thinks its possible he could be in danger bc the face he makes when Belos said "It would be a hassle to find a replacement." His face looks like he knows he's in danger but I don't think he knows the exact way and the specific of the plan
... this works surprisingly well. It tells the story of duty bound hunter, lucky to be alive, aiming to do good, the people who could be on his side he can't have on his side, those on his side are against him or using him as a puppet, the one friend that is unconditionally on his side he must hide and protect, Luz calling out to him, him saying he must return, Lilith being the closest to what he currently is now free as a traitor...
I absolutely LOVE the fact that they go through all these people who are either angry with him or dislike him, and then there's Luz, someone on the opposite side, who actually cares.

Yooo, this is so good! There’s just so much to it on the surface and then even more underneath. I feel like I would have to watch this on 0.5 speed to catch every effect and visual thing, then spend five hours writing a five page Google doc analyzing all the symbolism.

Yo this is GORGOUS. It shows exactly how much pressure is on Hunter. I'm especially in love with that "look at how lucky we are to be alive right now" part bc it shows Belos standing behind him and like. It's like saying if Hunter doesn't do what Belos wants him to, he's going to die.

Honestly Hunter is my favourite character and this describes his background so well : he was put under pressure to gain his job, now he is under even more pressure to keep it. The glitches effects were golden, the style is awesome and honestly ? Hamilton. Non Stop. Just for that, I already classify this as a diamond in the rough of youtube animatics

Geez, this has got to be one of my favourite animatics of all time on the internet (and believe me, I've seen way too many). Everything about it; the art, the transitions, the actually decipherable storyline...I always love seeing characters similar to myself in media, and while I am most certainly NOT the Golden Guard, I am put under immense amounts of pressure consistently and it's comforting _and_ tragic seeing someone else go through that (even if they're just fictional). You have way too much talent!!

I think that the art styles show how much trust Hunter has in each of them. The part with Lilith it says 'admiration', and when the style changes it says 'traitor'; the same goes with Luz. And it also says in the desc that Belos is the only one who's style doesn't change, so I think that's interesting.

They all could've been close to him, but when they changed or because of what they have that's different from him - Lilith rebelled against Belos, Luz practices wild magic and openly studies it, even though it's forbidden - Hunter forced them all away and became closed off.

Regarding the changes of the style drawing, I suppose it is because of how Hunter is feeling, for example, the fact that it is colored at the end, denotes all the confidence and determination that he feels, but when the lines are irregular and white and the background black It's because of all the fear and despair that he feels

There’s just so much to it on the surface and then even more underneath. I feel like I would have to watch this on 0.5 speed to catch every effect and visual thing, then spend five hours writing a five page Google doc analyzing all the symbolism.

Geez, this has got to be one of my favourite animatics of all time on the internet (and believe me, I've seen way too many). Everything about it; the art, the transitions, the actually decipherable storyline...I always love seeing characters similar to myself in media, and while I am most certainly NOT the Golden Guard, I am put under immense amounts of pressure consistently and it's comforting _and_ tragic seeing someone else go through that (even if they're just fictional). You have way too much talent!!
