In 22 the Eagles won many of their games before halftime. Largely because of how the Eagles could sustain drives. Last year's defence had a lot of problems. But, what is often overlooked is how quickly they often had to return to the field late in games. From a strategic perspective, aside from scoring points, you win games by keeping your defense fresh and making your opponents tired.

feel like they are underselling impact of kelce/ cox retirement. add on to that fixing corner with pair of rookies even though I like those players seems a little rich. see them as 8 to 11 wins still though
Really interesting to hear you both, speaking in May, on the subject of Zach Baun since we now know in OTA's and minicamp he was getting a *ton* of first team reps. It really seemed to surprise the two beat writers in Philly who do a twice-weekly podcast.
There is so much I can talk about in this video and being an Eagles fan I really wanted to talk about the more underrated free agent picks like Julien Okwara and others but I HAVE to mention the amazing graphics that were in this video and the series as a whole.
Eagles are an interesting case study of a team not having that added gear in key moments. With their offense lacking finesse trying to live in shotgun (along with Hurt's legs not being at 100%) to their defense not being able to stop teams from putting up points. By the numbers overall they look 'good' if one didn't watch their games from the first half of the season to the 2nd half where they truly underperformed. Not only did the offense looked like they were out of ideas but going from Desai to Patricia on defense should have been very telling how conflicted that coaching staff was with their results.
The Eagles Linebacker play HAS to be better. It was absolutely bottom-of-the-barrel stuff last year and sold the secondary (which was overly picked on by national media). I mean, half of the 2023 Eagles LBs wouldn't have made the roster on 31 teams in the league. They costed Sean Desai his job and were the reason the Niners and Cowboys cracked the code. Nakobe, Baun and Devin White NEED to be better than our group last year for the defense to have any success.
I think they will be but the secondary improving means even if they are just average it’ll be an overall improvement. I do think we upgraded and the projected starters balance each other out well. Not saying we’ll have the best rankings but hovering around the middle shouldn’t be out of question
Thanks for the info, yall are insane doing all 32 teams this detailed, I Love it, sickos. 👍 Go Birds 💪🦅 Luckily your Dallas one will only take half the time 😁
Nick had nothing to do with changing things up this year. That was Jeffrey’s call because he realized his coach wasn’t as good offensively as he thought without Shane Steichen. And the title aggravates me like we are the jets or something 😂
Can't tell if that is the New Riff Single Barrel or just the bottled in bond or even another offering, but I must say that the New Riff Single barrels are some of the best values in bourbon and SO DAMNED TASTY!
I hope Saquon turns out to be a bargain at RB5. I think he has a legitimate shot at being the most productive back in the league this year. He catches really well, his outside running is incredible, he can run inside, he's got speed, and the Eagles have a great line. Saquon's had a bit of a snakebit career and he seems like a great dude, so I'm always rooting for him.
As far as I’m concerned, we still suck. We still suck until we start winning again, which obviously can’t happen until September. Although I am optimistic that we quickly corrected the coordinator situation and brought in vets on both sides.
how much do you guys think the loss of Kelce will effect the tush push? (apologies if you brought it up in the episode I'm only like 2/3s of the way through
You guys did a good job covering the eagles, only two things I feel like deserve more time focusing on is Isaiah Rodgers coming back from suspension and signing back cjgj. I just feel like it’s ironic that the eagles were so bad at secondary last year and had such a good draft with the Db’s and we’re not even gonna start any rookies
You guys probably should have talked with local media a bit more before doing this pod. Quinyon Mitchell is probably 4th on the CB depth chart, they’re rotating Isaiah Rodgers and Kelee Ringo opposite Slay. And Vic Fangio has Zach Baun playing ILB not edge
Dont hate me, but did Kelce have a large blame in switching to/calling insufficient pass pro? It just doesn’t make sense how undermanned they were over and over, like was almost comical.
Something you guys didn't know about at the time you recorded this is the insane depth that has developed in the Eagles' cornerback corps. Quinon Mitchell, as great as he is, is not likely to start, because Kelee Ringo has been absolutely sensational thus far, and so has Isaiah Rogers. He may not even get starting reps as the nickel corner because they have Avonte Maddox returning and James Bradbury, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, and Cooper DeJean can all play that position. They suddenly have, by far, the greatest CB depth in the entire league.
That Steelers team couldn’t beat good teams. They had a really easy schedule. The eagles beat good teams with overwhelming roster talent and no coaching. None. Absolutely no coaching.
I'd watch a Dream Team doc. I'd watch it through my fingers, but I'd watch it. Especially the section on the Galaxy Brain coaching moves. The big difference between Chiefs Andy Reid and Eagles Andy Reid: Chiefs Andy Reid is smarter than 90% of the league; Eagles Andy Reid thought he was smarter than 90% of the league
Feels like Sirianni is in a no-win situation. If the offense disappoints he's getting canned, if the offense is really good, he might still get canned to be replaced by Kellen Moore.
If you’re an Eagles fan, do you really want Sirianni as your coach? He clearly can’t call plays offensively or defensively and struggled to keep the team together down the stretch. Like he’s supposed to be an offensive guy but Steichen literally made that offense what it was. IMO it’s time to get a better coach.
They get all that $ because how they structured hurts contract. It gives them leeway to sign good players. Howie is a genius not gonna lie. He’s killed the draft and FA. He’s super aggressive
I honestly don't think Nick had anything to do with getting Fangio or Kellen Moore in, Tbh if things don't go right, Nick is gone and Kellen most likely becomes head coach, I even think if things go right he still might be gone. I think the birds go 13 wins, corner now is one of the strongest positions in the team which was probably the worst last year and LB has been addressed as long as Dean, Trotter Jr or Baun steps up with Devin White
That's a very real possibility... Hurrs wants stability....if Moore gives him success and if teams come calling for Moore... the Eagles will have a very hard decision to make..... but...let's play out the season first
Kellen Moore? _This_ th-cam.com/video/9IjgyFHdVVsK/w-d-xo.htmlellen Moore whose favorite play was also responsible for Dak leading the league in INTs in '22 despite missing 5 games? Yeah, it's possible. the Eagles saw all this yet hired him.
@@Scyon13 No, don;'t do that. Don't lower your standards to that level then say "this is better" as if it's the best you can get. Matt Canada _was chanted_ to the unemployment lines. You The Fans *can hold* your professional teams accountable. Don't waste this roster on utter failures & say "well he's less bad than the last one."
@@ChewsCarefully we couldnt get Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik, so to me Kellen Moore was the next best choice, I think you're really hating on Kellen from what I saw of his time in Dallas they had a great passing attack despite the picks, you can't blame him for Daks bad decision making, to compare him to Canada is laughable, Not sure if you saw the Eagles play calling last year but I'd say it was as bad if not worse than the steelers. The only reason we put up so much points is simply because we were out talenting teams, I know at least we won't be throwing bubble screens on first down and QB draw on third and long 🤣 literally anyone bar Matt Canada and Nathaniel Hackett would be an improvement over BJ, but I think Moore has potential and is still young enough to learn new things and adjust his philosophy, also Jalen is a very different QB to Dak so he will have to make adjustments, it's win/win either way, we either make a deep playoff run or we get Bobby Slowik next year so it's all good to me 🤣
It's hard to be excited when our new DC asked to leave Miami and they just let him go, and our new OC couldn't hold a job with Dak or Herbert. I guess I like them better than the disaster we had last year, but Fangio and Moore aren't moving the needle so much for me.
TBF Moore has gotten results as OC with both Dak and Herbert. Even with variance situations messing things up (Chargers with injuries on offense). I think Fangio and the Fins defense just didn't fit overall. Talent wise Fangio probably likes the Eagles defense situation better than the Fins in the long run as well given he has short experience with both. At this point you can hope both those guys bring something stable in a full season than what Sirianni had for last season.
The Eagles have a new OC. A new DC. A historic collapse in their recent past that teams just don’t come back from. And personally, I’m tired of ALL THE TALKING HEADS stating how good the Eagles will be every offseason because Howie does what the DIC (draft industrial complex) analytics honks say is best every April. Then the season starts. And howie stops looking like such a genius. He looks like a GM. One who misses on plenty of shots, just like every other GM.
You can tell Brett vaguely understands the cap but just takes Over the Cap at face value. No Jalen Hurts does not have "7 void years," mostly because that is NOT ALLOWED by the CBA. He has 4 void years that stretch from 2029-2032, which will become irrelevant because the Eagles will extend him otherwise they will be on the hook for nearly $100M in 2029.
I say all of this as a 9ers fan. You could say the same thing for a bunch of coaches. Most head coaches put the majority of their work in during the week, overseeing everything, so that the game is largely delegated to their coordinators on gameday. Fletcher Cox's reaction to this question should tell you everything you need to know about Sirriani.
th-cam.com/video/oGqpsKTDC6w/w-d-xo.html At the 15:43 mark of this unscripted video you can hear Nick tell Lane that he wasn't going to give him any help. The worst part about this is that it came out before the season began. That part of the video should never have seen the light of day, yet the Eagles saw fit to basically announce to the world through their youtube page that blitzing Lane's side was going to be a recipe for success. I like Nick, but it was a monumental blunder on his part to even go into the season with this type of mindset no matter how good Lane is. You can tell this was on Lane's mind when he made the remarks he did at the end of the season. "It’s embarrassing when you start 10-1 and lose six of seven," he told reporters on Tuesday. "We had six weeks to tell you how we were going to fix it, we didn’t do s---. It’s the first time I’ve ever been in this kind of position. I never wanna be in this position again." To go through the last 6 weeks of the season and not have a single answer against the blitz is completely inexcusable. This also falls on Hurts though, as it's his responsibility to read those blitzes and set the protection on the field. Hopefully Hurts will hit the ground running when it comes to using motion, diagnosing coverage/blitzes and creating mismatches...but I have my doubts. He has thus far not used motion to do either of those things throughout his career. Under every single coach he has ever played under the offense has always looked the same. Stagnant, no misdirection...and easily blown up by blitz heavy defensive schemes. If Jalen develops that part of his game...he will be dangerous. Until then he's a huge target that will continue to see the highest blitzing percentage in the league.
The Eagles, mainly “Hurts”, got exposed but because of bad evaluation he gets an excuse. They went away from the run n he struggled…PERIOD!! Also, the fact that he couldn’t run as usual also exposed his inability to throw from the pocket. Am I saying he “can’t” throw from the pocket? Of course not, but that isn’t his strength and if he were graded purely on his ability to throw from the pocket he wouldn’t be graded as highly. They hope that with Saquon they’ll get back to and stick with the run but that will cause problems with AJ Brown again as it did last year n why they got away from the run in the 1st place……
The D was terrible last season but the Offense wasnt very good either unfortunately. The games we won, we won them because of the insane talent of our skill players and Hurts and the tush push. But the playcalling (runplay call %, playdesign, variety, etc) was truly horrible most of the season. Unimaginitive. And the blitzes killed us BAD. I have faith in Moore because 1. he cant really do it worse then last year. 2. he has experience. Im sure he can be criticized for some stuff too, but the experience alone makes me hopeful.
All year I kept saying they looked like the Vikings from the previous year just frauds, watching there offense was so frustrating it was junior high like. I’m shocked Brian Johnson got another job. Overall I’m hopeful for this season, losing reddick hurts alot more than most realize, really hope huff emerges to the guy they paid for
Did he just say that Brock Bowers, the 13th overall pick and one of the best tight end prospects in recent memory, is gonna be TE2 on the Raiders? 🤔🤔🤔😭😭
You should probably ask Kyle Pitts how well high draft pedigree and being "one of the best tight end prospects in recent memory" worked out for him. Trashtalk aside, the Raiders are not going to be a pass-heavy offense, and Bowers is pretty indifferent as an inline blocker (and I'm being generous here) so, like many receiving-oriented tight-ends coming out of college, Bowers has a real chance of starting as TE2 on the depth chart or at the very least losing a lot of snaps to vets who can block more effectively, at least early on. Also they're talking about where he's practicing right now on the depth chart. The Raiders may well be forcing Bowers to earn the starting job and not letting him get it on draft pedigree.
@@brett4948 and then he fucking vanished also his rookie year he got deployed mostly as a wideout. Which is what the Raiders *should* do with Bowers. But at that point he's a tight-end in name only.
There is absolutely nothing to be excited regarding Clint Hurtt. He's truly awful. The Seahawks defense, specifically the run defense has been absolutely atrocious the previous two years. He was unable to get stops on third down and is awful at scheming up pressure. I'm sorry Philly fans, this guy is a dud.
Well the only good player you had on that D line was Boye Mafe. And Leonard Williams has been atrocious against the run no matter who's coaching him. Clint has a good d line to work with now. Also, it's not the D line coach's job to scheme pressure, that's the defensive coordinator's job. The D line coach just gets them prepped.
@@TedTeddy-ej3dp Jarran Reed was the best player on the D line. Mafe is specifically an edge rusher. But for your guys sake I hope you're right. I definitely haven't watched every Seahawks game for years and have seen first hand how basic, unimpressive and mediocre his schemes have been over the years. We are talking bottom five in run defense and and bottom three in getting third down stops.
@@TedTeddy-ej3dp I know. But you specifically said it wasn't his job to scheme pass rush, which it was and he sucked at it. So what makes you think he's going to be successful at being a DL coach when his defenses have been bottom feeders in run defense and third down conversations?
Are they though? Last time weve seen them play they were one of the worst teams in the league for a significant stretch. Yes, they made a lot of changes and added some talent but they've yet to put anything on the field to convince me that they're better. Rookies are typically bad at football.

Love the center placement of that new riff bottle. GREAT bottle of bourbon
We sorely missed TJ Edwards, one of the most underrated parts of the 2022 squad
I think they will be but the secondary improving means even if they are just average it’ll be an overall improvement. I do think we upgraded and the projected starters balance each other out well. Not saying we’ll have the best rankings but hovering around the middle shouldn’t be out of question
I think the new coaches will make this stacked team really really really good
Thanks for the info, yall are insane doing all 32 teams this detailed, I Love it, sickos. 👍
Go Birds 💪🦅
Luckily your Dallas one will only take half the time 😁
Ill believe it when i see it
Im surprised eagle rare wasn’t used here. But new riff is an awesome choice!
Rip getting the Cowboys on Friday 😢
Good stuff
DJax was a damn beast!!!
As far as I’m concerned, we still suck. We still suck until we start winning again, which obviously can’t happen until September. Although I am optimistic that we quickly corrected the coordinator situation and brought in vets on both sides.
We still suck but “I’m optimistic “… talk about an oxymoron 😂😂😂
how much do you guys think the loss of Kelce will effect the tush push? (apologies if you brought it up in the episode I'm only like 2/3s of the way through
Where the cowboys episode 😢
please do a mini doc on the eagles dream team 🙏
E A G L E S EAGLESSSSSS🦅🦅🦅
Can’t wait for the Malik Nabers ‘We were wrong or told ya!” Video.. you boys are very skeptical
Can you do afc west next I don’t wanna wait for the chargers video 🥺
Y’all should check out Kellen Moore’s blitz pick up track record for the chargers……. lol
Cooper DeJean, the 2nd best athlete to come out of Iowa last year.
“That’s the too long didn’t listen version” at 19 minutes into an hour+ long show 😂
Something you guys didn't know about at the time you recorded this is the insane depth that has developed in the Eagles' cornerback corps.
The end of last szn almost made me give up football all together
They felt just like the 10-1 steelers from about 5years ago
That Steelers team couldn’t beat good teams. They had a really easy schedule.
The eagles beat good teams with overwhelming roster talent and no coaching. None. Absolutely no coaching.
@@doctorbashir3497thank you…coaching jobs matter
Love hearing ab my Bengals even though it's an eagles episode 😂
One guy you guys overlooked in terms of roster additions. Another Aussie rugby player we signed at a young age Laekin Vakalahi, 6'5" 320.
Go Birds 🦅
I'd watch a Dream Team doc. I'd watch it through my fingers, but I'd watch it.
Especially the section on the Galaxy Brain coaching moves. The big difference between Chiefs Andy Reid and Eagles Andy Reid: Chiefs Andy Reid is smarter than 90% of the league; Eagles Andy Reid thought he was smarter than 90% of the league
Going to sound weird, but Jake Elliott saved the Eagles a ton last year.
Naw, seriously, where are they getting the money?!?! How?!?
Question when is the raiders one coming out
My worst nightmare💔💔
Feels like Sirianni is in a no-win situation. If the offense disappoints he's getting canned, if the offense is really good, he might still get canned to be replaced by Kellen Moore.
There is damn no way Howie thinks Kellen is the HC answer even if he jump starts that offense in 2024.
@@t4d0W Big Dom as HC it is then
@@t4d0Wbut do you risk losing tremendous offensive success for coach CEO if we are a juggernaut this year?
Bears Prince Amukamara mentioned
If you’re an Eagles fan, do you really want Sirianni as your coach? He clearly can’t call plays offensively or defensively and struggled to keep the team together down the stretch. Like he’s supposed to be an offensive guy but Steichen literally made that offense what it was. IMO it’s time to get a better coach.
This feels like an Eagles roast haha 😂
Ok it got a lot nicer after the beginning 😂
They get all that $ because how they structured hurts contract. It gives them leeway to sign good players. Howie is a genius not gonna lie. He’s killed the draft and FA. He’s super aggressive
Please please pleaseee release the cowboys episode
Nice
the defence sucked beacuse they lost johnathan gannon and nick rallis, those guys are good coaches
Wow... @51 minutes ej calls out zach baun directly and predicts this years performance?
55:33 😂😂😂
Johnny Wilson is discount Funches
Go birbs
@@ChewsCarefully bro anything is an improvement over BJ, we also got a better o line and running game so it won't have to be forced
The only reason we put up so much points is simply because we were out talenting teams, I know at least we won't be throwing bubble screens on first down and QB draw on third and long 🤣 literally anyone bar Matt Canada and Nathaniel Hackett would be an improvement over BJ, but I think Moore has potential and is still young enough to learn new things and adjust his philosophy, also Jalen is a very different QB to Dak so he will have to make adjustments, it's win/win either way, we either make a deep playoff run or we get Bobby Slowik next year so it's all good to me 🤣
So it was Johnson and Patricia’s fault?
basically yeah lol
@@t4d0W Really?
Doesn't look th-cam.com/video/9IjgyFHdVVs/w-d-xo.html like he did.
As an eagles fan I’m gonna need a bottle of Hennessy and some hypnotic to chase it to get through this
The Eagles have a new OC.
Gotta keep an eye on the new Australian kid
Brett try to not say distillation challenge: impossible
You can tell Brett vaguely understands the cap but just takes Over the Cap at face value.
No Jalen Hurts does not have "7 void years," mostly because that is NOT ALLOWED by the CBA. He has 4 void years that stretch from 2029-2032, which will become irrelevant because the Eagles will extend him otherwise they will be on the hook for nearly $100M in 2029.
wtf does siriani do? seems the coordinators are doing everything
I say all of this as a 9ers fan.
You could say the same thing for a bunch of coaches. Most head coaches put the majority of their work in during the week, overseeing everything, so that the game is largely delegated to their coordinators on gameday. Fletcher Cox's reaction to this question should tell you everything you need to know about Sirriani.
th-cam.com/video/oGqpsKTDC6w/w-d-xo.html
At the 15:43 mark of this unscripted video you can hear Nick tell Lane that he wasn't going to give him any help. I never wanna be in this position again."
To go through the last 6 weeks of the season and not have a single answer against the blitz is completely inexcusable.

Howie drafts like if an armchair gm was actually a gm
Did he just say that Brock Bowers, the 13th overall pick and one of the best tight end prospects in recent memory, is gonna be TE2 on the Raiders? 🤔🤔🤔😭😭
Lol ur adorable

@@pacificbanana6179 why not both?
@@TedTeddy-ej3dp You do realize he was the defensive coordinator here, right?
@@thguz13 He won't be a DC in Philly.
