Believe it or not but this was, a year and a half ago, the very first tutorial that I watched after getting the base game and it got me very confused. I respect this video enormously.
My god, I thought this was real at first. When you started talking about the money lender I disliked the vid, then read from comments that it's all a joke. You got me. Still, I wonder how many real beginner players will actually follow this advice...
As previous comments have pointed out, I think the irony of people not getting the obvious parody and sub sequently taking this video's advice as 100% serious further adds to the humor quotient.
Yeah. I love how I can rearrange my top 4 cards of my deck. It's so useful, sometimes I fill my deck with Scouts and my opponent just resigns from the game.
At first I was wondering where he was going with this. Then when I saw he had 3 copper at the end of this massive village pyramid, it was exactly like some of the beginner players I've played with. I feel like they just wasted their entire turn accomplishing nothing. If they didn't have all those village cards they would have just started with a hand with 3 copper and been in the same place.
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player we have this thing called a "upstart goblin". This card just lets you draw one card. In the game you can have a deck between 40 - 60 cards. If you run 1 "upstart" in a 40 card deck, you essentially have 39 cards. This helps deck thin to get to your better cards. However, if you run it as the 41st card your basically running 40, and it acts as if your not even playing it since there's no technical advantage. In dominian, cards like village, wishing well, or the like, are all examples of upstart goblin. The only thing your getting out of viliage is the +2 action. And I don't see that as a bad thing since allot of cards don't have a +1 action. When I played the game with some friends for the first time I immediately avoided cards that only gave me a +1 card unless the other effect was actually beneficial to me.
Man, I didn't know this. That you so much for your video. All the time I was wondering why I could never improve my 25 iso level play. This might do the trick!
Hey, guys! We lost our account details to How2Beat but we have made a second episode. This one is far more technical but should really enhance your game play. th-cam.com/video/vwMqt2pkPIc/w-d-xo.html
New player here. I see the video is from 13 years ago. Does the advice about village being the best card and chapel the worst still apply considering there have been expansions since then?
Lol I thought it was serious at first too. What is even more hilarious are some of the comments here from people who don't get the joke. Please make another video!
K, I've never played dominion before and I thought he was being serious. It seemed like he was just taking the two strategies way to far. I could have come up with something more balanced and won having never playes before. Thanks dor the vid. Now I know what not to do.
"I would buy village if it cost 7" Lets not stop there! I'd buy a village if it cost 11!! Screw those colonies; victory points are worthless until turn 50 or 60 at least.
losing cooper is a a great way to clean your hand from low value cards like... copper!!, but there is other card far stronger that let you remove up to 4 card when u use it and if you buy it first you can clean your deck in 3 turns and get a really peedy snowball. when you draw 2 silver and a gold every round you win, only buy 2 more gold and then victory point for the win
Why are platinum and colony on the board? There aren't any Prosperity cards being used! In any case, I whole-heartedly agree with this analysis. Village is by far the best card evar and a double-village opening is easily the best move possible. In fact, that's why I hate getting 5/2 opening hands, because I can't buy two villages!
please do tell others that this is a JOKE, playing combos and wowing are probably for newbies. Instead of combos, a hand full of golds/silver is actually a way better strategy for starters
I don't play Dominion, but I got here because I play other deck building games. It does not follow that because one chapel is good, 2 would be better. Having a deck thinning option is often good, but filling your hand with deck thinning cards is pointless. This is the type of card that, in any other game, you would probably only want one copy of. Basically you are doing a reductio ad absurdum argument to show it's a bad card when no sensible person would play them like that. I also don't see the point of just filling your deck with village cards like that, unless it's specifically to deprive your opponent of them. At some point you are just drawing cards to draw cards and not getting anything done. But as I said, I don't play Dominion specifically, but the concepts are very familiar.
Don't worry, this is a parody video that the creators very impressively managed to keep a straight face during recording. You're absolutely correct though. There's some good strategy talk on /r/dominion if you're looking to get into the game, Dominion is one of my all-time favourite board games due to the amount of variance between games and how strategies can completely change depending on what's the board.
Consider that if you trash Curses, you effectively limit your choices with Wishing Well, as you aren't going to wish for a card that isn't in your deck.
Oh man! I hurt myself laughing at this. It actually inspired me to leave my first ever TH-cam comment. I feel the hate growing and my brain getting smaller already.
guinea pig in a box trashing a copper is very important. Copper slows down your deck, and keeps you from drawing better cards. A woodcutter only gives you +$2 while a money lender gives you +$3, and let's you trash a copper.
Trololol! nice video! The main guy speaks with such authority most people can't see that it's satire. You pretty much have to ignore his advice. The village is a nice card but way overrated and only useful if you have a deck with many action cards. The chapel is a great card but you have to use it wisely and not just trash everything mindlessly. You basically get rid of estates and copper so you can have only silver and eventually gold. Your deck is small and efficient.
Pretty funny, but you may want to include something that says it is a joke at the end or something. It is seemingly possible for a new player searching for actual tips and tricks to come across this and not know it is a joke.
The worst tip! Chaple is one of the best cards. Your example was such a bad way to use the chaples. First of all you have to buy the good cards like village, silver and gold. Then you have to use the chaple to remove all the low cards like copper. The goal is to decrease the decks as much as you can to draw everytime good and high value cards.
Chapel the worst: if you play with the chapel can you win a game within minutes with mabey one other actioncard. The village is really not that a strong card as told in this video. I would like to play againts "sascha". A hand full of villages: no way you will win if you don''t buy any treasure cards.
man this is silly chappel is great but you only need one, that is why is great, village are great too but no to the point to buy 10, 5 are more than enought and only if u plan on a heavy action deck.
market is the best you had 9 villages and had only 3 dollars if you had 9 markerts you would have a minimmum of 9 dollars also chapple is good when you play with witch
This video is a joke! Chapel is a great card, you just have to use it properly. Trashing every card is not useing it properly . . . Buying every village is also a bad strategy as it doesnt help you in the long run, you need other actions in order to make better plays.
I like how they maintained a straight face through this whole video. :D
Believe it or not but this was, a year and a half ago, the very first tutorial that I watched after getting the base game and it got me very confused. I respect this video enormously.
"Clogging the deck with worthless victory cards..." and then buys an estate! Just too good!
"The best card in the game is..." * finger hovers over chapel * ... "village."
Haha, I'm a new player and this video had me going for a second.
This is what when I first started, was really surprised when I lost
My god, I thought this was real at first. When you started talking about the money lender I disliked the vid, then read from comments that it's all a joke. You got me. Still, I wonder how many real beginner players will actually follow this advice...
As previous comments have pointed out, I think the irony of people not getting the obvious parody and sub sequently taking this video's advice as 100% serious further adds to the humor quotient.
hahahaha also, I love that this is the only video this channel put out.
One of the funniest videos I've seen. 282 people don't understand deadpan humour.
Village is the best card? Psh, amateurs. You clearly haven't seen the brilliance of Scout.
Yeah. I love how I can rearrange my top 4 cards of my deck. It's so useful, sometimes I fill my deck with Scouts and my opponent just resigns from the game.
The best and worst cards of DOMINION, not the like 300 expansions
"Losing a copper from your deck is basically never worth gaining something else..." This is hilarious!
Imagine a Village + Chapel deck where you village right into chapel.
Maximum efficiency.
It is amazing to me how many people seem to not realize this is a joke. None of these strategies are useful, they are intended to be funny.
This has to be the best guide, a real eye opener! Please make more of these, and try not to make them once every 7 years.
11 years now
They have made a second one on intrigue;)
They were worng.. moneylender is good vard
Every time I watch this, it gets funnier :D
What makes this video even more funny is that people don't realize it's a joke. c'mon people get a sense of humor
Thank you for this incredibly helpful advice! I have a League Match next week!
it's funny cause, there's an actual term for people that overvalue village "village idiot." loved the troll video.
Still referencing this video to buddies when I show them Dominion. You guys rule 😂
Damn. Loved this. Just enough information to really learn and absorb it. Thank you.
Like really...the amount of whoosh is amazing here.
I love that the comments on your video make the entire experience even more hilarious. Great job, guys.
This is the funniest thing I've seen all week
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player we have this thing called a "upstart goblin".

This is pretty funny. I wish you guys had made more videos.
Honestly guys, how did you make this video without breaking out into laughter the whole time? You must be Germans without an accent or something.
O my gosh, the village deck works for me every time. Love it. Thanks for the tip.
The only thing that was right in this video is that Mine is actually a terrible card.
Still funny years later.
This is what Martin Wallace watched before he designed A Few Acres of Snow.
Why get villages when you can buy Curse cards? This guy smh
I know, right? Curses are so good, they don't even cost anything (besides a buy and -1 VP).
I really want to try that chapel strategy in my next game it comes up. Thanks for the advice.
I know this is a parody, but I play this with a guy who says exactly this about the village, every time, no matter how many times he loses. Lol
Man, I didn't know this. That you so much for your video. All the time I was wondering why I could never improve my 25 iso level play. This might do the trick!
Still waiting for episode 2! ^^
You play like my brother: I play a village and another village and a village.... and at the end he is surprised that I won :D
Very funny video!
Hey, guys! We lost our account details to How2Beat but we have made a second episode. This one is far more technical but should really enhance your game play.
th-cam.com/video/vwMqt2pkPIc/w-d-xo.html
this was a joke, right?
Indeed, village? Non sense
New player here. I see the video is from 13 years ago. Does the advice about village being the best card and chapel the worst still apply considering there have been expansions since then?
I always come back to this video -- it's a classic
Lol I thought it was serious at first too. What is even more hilarious are some of the comments here from people who don't get the joke. Please make another video!
I love the seriousness and credibility of this guy ! XD
Lol'd hard right around 2:50 and from there it didn't stop. Great vid.
This was too funny. Thanks for the laughs :)
losing cooper is a a great way to clean your hand from low value cards like... copper!!, but there is other card far stronger that let you remove up to 4 card when u use it and if you buy it first you can clean your deck in 3 turns and get a really peedy snowball. when you draw 2 silver and a gold every round you win, only buy 2 more gold and then victory point for the win
Absolute gold
So this is one of those deck building games. Don't know much about them looks interesting
Bring it on episode 2 ! ! !
You are the funniest guy ever
Why are platinum and colony on the board? There aren't any Prosperity cards being used!

0:32 "I would buy village if it cost $7" - ah now i see where AdamH got this from :-D great Video ;-)
I assume this is a parody
I always go for the workshop.
fuck! got me at first! great video lads
Had me until he played the money lender to pick up a gold
please do tell others that this is a JOKE, playing combos and wowing are probably for newbies. Instead of combos, a hand full of golds/silver is actually a way better strategy for starters
Man, I couldn't stop laughing after 2:50!!!!!
you use 9 action to get 3 coopers. no way it is a good tactic
I don't play Dominion, but I got here because I play other deck building games. It does not follow that because one chapel is good, 2 would be better. I mean wouldn’t the chapel be helpful to trash curses? That’s why I buy it
Don't you understand the jokes?
@@BigOllieSpin no lol
Consider that if you trash Curses, you effectively limit your choices with Wishing Well, as you aren't going to wish for a card that isn't in your deck.
Oh man! I hurt myself laughing at this. It actually inspired me to leave my first ever TH-cam comment. I feel the hate growing and my brain getting smaller already.
This is a mickey take right? I've just watched a Dominion parady video. The world now seems so much more bizzarre than it was 10 minutes ago!
Heroes are born everyday
Press "2" multiple times for bad strategy, press "8" once for good strategy. :D
LOLZ!! This totally made my day!
Seems like the rule book is missing two alternative winning conditions.
hahahahahaha, good one, should be titled "the two worst strategies in dominon base"
Make another episode for the love of god.
this is so funny
lol you silly, it's a joke! and the fact that you didn't realize it makes it even funnier!!! This is like the WORST strategy you can pursue.
aren't chapels just good for getting rid of curses?
Yes, However You May Use A "Remodel" Card And Trash The Curse Card And
Get E.G Estate
And copper and estates.
Yes But Gives No Reward
Thief and Spy r my fav cards
isn't woodcutter just a straight upgrade from moneylender?
No, it doesn't let you trash a copper.
shagoosty isn't trashing a copper a bad thing? also woodcutter costs one less gold.
guinea pig in a box trashing a copper is very important. Copper slows down your deck, and keeps you from drawing better cards. A woodcutter only gives you +$2 while a money lender gives you +$3, and let's you trash a copper.
ah ok, thx
guinea pig in a box how about if you have no copper then?
A proper Chapel Deck has you buy Copper every turn and then trash that. :p
More?
"Then I play a moneylender" *Plays copper*
Trololol! nice video! The main guy speaks with such authority most people can't see that it's satire. You pretty much have to ignore his advice. The downvotes. I'm not surprised board gamers failed to spot sarcasm.
Pretty funny, but you may want to include something that says it is a joke at the end or something. It is seemingly possible for a new player searching for actual tips and tricks to come across this and not know it is a joke.
Lol thought this was serious at first

It is a joke
Lol ok guys, quit pulling our legs.
woah woah woah, where on moneylender does it say "gain a gold"? Pretty sure you just gain plus 3 to use THAT turn, much like militia gives +2
Omg... I thought this was serious at first.
Chapel the worst: if you play with the chapel can you win a game within minutes with mabey one other actioncard. The village is really not that a strong card as told in this video. I would like to play againts "sascha". A hand full of villages: no way you will win if you don''t buy any treasure cards.
it's a joke people xD obviously not a good strategy and chapel is a good card :P
man this is silly chappel is great but you only need one, that is why is great, village are great too but no to the point to buy 10, 5 are more than enought and only if u plan on a heavy action deck.
kezkoal did you really make six comments without gettin the joke? hilarious
what about adventurer?
market is the best you had 9 villages and had only 3 dollars if you had 9 markerts you would have a minimmum of 9 dollars also chapple is good when you play with witch
@geurt681 You fell into the troll's trap!
couldnt u jus buy copper for 0 instead of passing when he was talkink about chapel?
You should almost never buy copper.
This is really funny if you get the joke.
He had 3 copper in his hand brah.
Best - video - ever. I laughed till I cried.
comedy gold!
This is so funny.
This video is a joke! Chapel is a great card, you just have to use it properly. Trashing every card is not useing it properly . . .
Buying every village is also a bad strategy as it doesnt help you in the long run, you need other actions in order to make better plays.
Cameron Churcher i agree
Haha.. almost got me!
