Catherine Bush CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, and producer. She came to prominence in 1978, aged 19, when she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song. She has since released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including the top-10 hits "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill".
The single 'Wuthering Heights' reached # 1 in the UK charts and as a result of this Toppop recording reached #4 in the Dutch Top 40 on 8 April 1978

I was a ten year old boy when it came out and miss Bush was on the UK TV. Yes she grabbed my soul and something stirred deep in means suddenly I was a man.

My brother and I are both in our 40s now, but when we were teenagers I remember him playing this song non-stop for about a month. He had dug it out of my dad’s record collection. Took me a while longer to appreciate Kate’s genius but I got there eventually, thanks to the BBC retrospective in 2014 when she did her Before The Dawn shows. For some reason when I heard Running Up That Hill in the mid-80s I assumed it was a one-off. It was, but not in the one-hit sense. I played it over and over but failed to buy the album. My loss.

I read Kate's biography. For someone so talented and eccentric, she had quite a normal childhood and a wonderfully loving family. I believe she was so sure of herself because she came along when her two brothers were quite a lot older than she was. Her family absolutely nurtured her brilliant talent. One of her brothers took most of her photographs, doing the artwork for her albums, while her other brother, Paddy, along with boyfriend ( Del Palmer) played in her band and on her albums.
Her brother was her boyfriend? Now that is sheltered and eccentric!

I did figure it wasn't sexual, but that she was so sheltered that it stunted her social interactions to where her brothers were her most constant companions, taking the place of a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship she could have found at school. And I thought it was sad, and maybe the source of some of her saddest songs. She does seem to know loneliness and introspection well!
I actually think she had/has "normal" relationships with men and with friends. She is (I believe) married to another musician and has a son, who figures prominently in her music (the song "Bertie" from the beautiful recording "Aerial" :D.) @@mikelampon7235
I think her shutting herself away and reading, focusing on looking in from the outside gave her a lot of perception and drama, clarity but also daydreamer-like creativity and muse to work with.
People love”Running up the Hill”. But I still prefer this song the most. Since it has a Gothic feel.

Talvez você já conhece, mas nesse sentido de bruxa (pelo meno no jeito de cantar, que nem sei explicar), recomendo Siouxie and the Banshees (em algumas músicas), The Shroud (conheci com uma música chamada Ophelia) e principalmente, a banda Esoterik (conheci com o MV de Necrodancer), onde alguns exemplos são as músicas Cup of Life, Reincarnation e a recente Phosporus. When I first heard this song, I couldn't stand it, but now much appreciation for the composition and Kate's lyrics/voice I now know it's a masterpiece!
that was my experience with Kate too. I liked "This Woman's Work" and went searching for more from her and hated everything I heard, especially "Babushka."
But for some reason I came back and tried again (unusual for me, with music), and i read lyrics and understood the meanings and watched her interpretive dances and now I'm of the opinion that Kate Bush is one of the greatest singer songwriters of the modern era.
I guess the moral is that sometimes art isn't immediately digestible or accessible. Sometimes you have to work a little to get into a mindset where you can understand the value of what you're experiencing! 😊

Fantastic debut single from Kate. Few people know that she was writing songs from the age of 11, and that she wrote 'The man with the child in his eyes' at the age of 13, amazing. Being discovered and mentored by Dave Gilmour says it all. The Kick Inside, her first album, is still my favorite.

2:11 I always get chills at this bit. The fact that she wrote, composed, and performed this at 19 is insane.
In my opinion, a great song occurs when you strike a perfect balance between 'the known' and 'a surprise'. (OK, maybe the production value adds to it). When it strikes the balance the tow, the song never gets old. This is one of them. And Kate being the queen that she is, is just a bonus.
I've watched this video at least a dozen times since discovering it. The song is strangely hypnotic, and the video fits perfectly. There are creative people and there are artists like Kate Bush who just manage that extra bit of perfection.

O que mais me impressiona, além do timbre, interpretação etc e tal, é o fato dela ter uma articulação muito bem marcada. Isso ajuda a compreender melhor a letra e sua pronúncia correta. Com isso, fica mais fácil pra nós, que não tem o inglês como língua oficial, entender, e compreender melhor a dicção perfeita. Isso é um ótimo laboratório pra que estuda, ou como eu, estudou técnica vocal com canções em inglês. Perfeita. Grande mulher. Kate Bush. Essa canção é uma aula, em especial nessa gravação. É isso.

She shared a birthdate with Emily Bronte the author of the novel. Emily Bronte was born 30th July 1818 and Kate Bush 30th July 1958. The record company wanted to release another song off the album as single, but she insisted on this for obvious reasons......

Conheci musica no TH-cam, mas agora estou endo o Livro: Wuthering Heights (1939) em Março de 2022.
É da minha infância, um tremendo sucesso.
Na época que lançaram a música,eu tinha 15 anos,1978.
Comprei o livro,já tinha visto o filme,a versão de 1939 com Laurence Olivier e Merle Oberon.
Anos depois assisti a versão com Ralph Phines
