    Unfortunately here in Canada the government wants to subsidised the model T EV's that the legacy brands are selling, and have hammered Chinese cars with 100% tariffs, so we miss out on the high tech Chinese cars which are or could be sold for less money than the EV's or ICE cars that we have access to.

      And Poiverre wants to end EV subsidies which will make things even worse. Conservatives are trying their hardest to destroy local Canadian car industry by undermining EV car sales, Trudeau is trying to make sure Canadians only have access to overpriced or crap EVs. With politicians like this who needs enemies?.

      When comparing trunk space between brands, beware that Tesla use a different set of parameters which results in a figure 30-40% higher. Tesla specification states trunk volume is 870 litres (which is 300 litres more than vehicles of similar wheelbase!). German motoring body measured the Model y using the commonly used parameters and the figure is 540 litres. assets.adac.de/image/upload/Autodatenbank/Autotest/at6259-tesla-model-y-maximum-range-awd/tesla-model-y-maximum-range-awd.pdf

    For those of you touting that Tesla has higher profit margins compared to Chinese automakers, Tesla fattens its profit margins by selling in the US market where there is very little competition and they get billions of dollars of government carbon credit subsidies.
    Tesla generated $45B in sales in the US and $22B of sales in China in 2023. Yet the number of cars sold in each country was very similar, 655K sales in US and 603K sales in China in 2023. Thus the profit margin is CLEARLY much lower in China.
    If BYD had the same access to the US market as Tesla has to the Chinese market, it's profit margin would almost certainly be at least equal to if not higher than Tesla.

      Tesla can compete in the Chinese market because they have access to Chinese batteries which is at the heart of making EVs competitive not only with other EVs but with ICE. So Tesla biggest threat isn't from China... but from the American government. If US politicians shut off Teslas access to Chinese batteries (like they recently pressured Ford to drop CATL) it will damage Tesla's global competitiveness in EVs

    • @marianbiznesu1899

    • @mydogsbutler
      @mydogsbutler หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marianbiznesu1899 Software is important all things being equal but batteries are what make or break. I think something like 40-50 percent of Tesla batteries are made in China. As China has pulled ahead in battery tech Tesla will become even more dependent on China to stay competitive.
      The primary reason the big three can't compete in EV sector today is because the American government keeps hounding them not to use Chinese batteries. If they try to do the same to Tesla, American car industry is in big trouble. As EVs replace ICE globally they will have no market to sell even ICE to. That's why so many ICE car factories are closing in China. At least in China, its reached the tipping point where ICE is better value for many common use cases. There are still some range anxiety issues but those should be ironed out in the next couple of years as next gen evs and ev chargers are rolled out.

    Electric Viking leaves out the cost of the 5 year 0% financing on Model Ys, which is like a huge price cut to consumers. That and the overall Chinese EV market growing at 40% a year is what is allowing Tesla to keep sales just above last year up till now. But now we get these new levels of competition, including the new Neo Onvo, and life gets very, very bad for the Model Y. They may get a bump from the facelift, but that will disappear rapidly with the new competitors, including the Xiaomi SUV. Without that 0% financing Tesla sales would be falling.
