  • Lingcod are ferocious ocean apex predators which hunt around pinnacles for rockfish and other baitfish in the Pacific Northwest. We trolled with large swimbaits around Southern Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands, and it didn't take long for the bites to start.

    Nicely crafted video. I always appreciate your editing skills. I got tired of editing sometime last fall and pretty much stopped posting videos, just getting back into it a bit with some shorts.

      Thanks Petr. I love it, it's story telling and I can sit at the screen for hours putting it together. My style is constantly evolving (not necessarily improving) and I am always changing it up. Sometimes I lose inspiration like you described and stop putting something out for at least a month until I feel like I can put together quality content again. It's the beauty of TH-cam, you work at your own pace to grow, not really a competition with others.

    Good stuff! I caught a 58lb lingcod off Race Rocks in Race Passage in 1972.That is a marine preserve area now.The 58 was too big and not good eating.CHEERS from Here!

    I've never thought to troll for Lings, that's pretty neat

      Out of all the methods, I'd say it's probably the most efficient way to catch them.

    Pretty neat trolling with downriggers for lingcod. I would be scared to lose the downrigger on the reefs.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you definitely gotta be careful. Jason was constantly watching the sounder and working on the downriggers to keep the gear away from the reefs.

      That's good, because you're going to see her pretty frequently throughout this year. The third episode with her will be out in two weeks from now. :)

    Great episode guy's. Yo Rod do y'all have catfish in any of your local waters?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only catfish species found in BC is brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus), which are in fact invasive in this region.

    why do you use centre pins for ocean fishing? i thought they were only good for float fishing in rivers

  • @slacktide_angler
    @slacktide_angler ปีที่แล้ว

    That's pretty cool. 6-10oz swimbaits off downrigger? Really curious how close you graze the pinnacles without worrying about hangups.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As close as possible, that’s why Jason was constantly adjusting the depths on those down riggers so he wouldn’t hang up.

    Trolling for lings with downriggers sounds expensive when you lose a downrigger weight.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sure can get expensive, that's why Jason was constantly working on the downriggers while watching the sounder.
