The Murder of Pai Hsiao-yen is really famous in Taiwan, and I recommend covering it. It involved the child of a well known tv host and Japanese writer, and was a really sad case that become infamous for the kidnapping, torture and the disrespect shown by media in covering the victim. My mom used to tell me about this case when we went to Taiwan to try to warn me to stick by her all the time.
I'm from Taiwan and was around 9 or 10 when this happened. I remember my parents being enraged by this whole thing as it was unfolding. Oddly enough, they were more enraged at the media than the actual kidnapping and murders themselves. They would make sure my brother and I were in another room when the news was on. Taiwan media were hated and ridiculed for a very long time. There was often a saying to kids at the time... "study hard or you'll end up becoming a news reporter". Working in media was seen as lower than dirt as a "profession".
@@regenosis My parents end up talking about how they would have been caught sooner if the police weren’t incompetent. When we went to Taiwan, Hong Kong or China when I was a kid, mom practically had me padlocked to her. She told us that naive and relatively well off kids like us are prime target for extortion predators. As Canadian kids we kind of thought shr was overprotective, but growing older and reading prevalence reports/news I just think: Thank you mom.
RIP in peace to the victims - they didn't deserve to die this way.. no one does. But also really sad for the child who was abused by the very people who should've protected him. It doesn't excuse the horrific crimes he committed, but I sympathise with the innocent child he was, not the monster he later became. People who can't love and nurture a child shouldn't have them.
You missed out the most important part- he seemed normal until it rained at night, then he goes schiz and becomes a monster. He killed every time it was raining heavily and HongKong people were alerted to this fact to avoid bumping into the killer (before he got caught)
Children who are abused by their own family fear no one in the world except the abuser. Lam didn't make much effort to hide anything from anyone except his family because children who are abused by their own parents often become stone hearted and they are not afraid of anyone except the trauma they suffered in childhood. Lam shouldn't be forgiven for what he did but I feel sorry for the kid who must have spent his entire childhood in fear.
A few years ago, I would have avoided this type of channel because these crimes are depressing and gruesome. I became a fan of the show, Criminal Minds. I began to realize these sickos walk amongst us. Plus I realized that I couldn’t just bury my head in the sand and ignore it. I was so intrigued how these criminals carried out their crimes and got away with it for awhile. I really enjoy the demeanor of Megan and how she presents these stories. This channel has become one of my favorites and I look forward for the next episodes.
Can you imagine how many more victims could have been, if this guy knew how to develop films and had his own dark room? Good content as always, Megan!!
So happy to see your channel grow! I am quite a crime lover myself and there are some cases I think you should read about too :) The Anni-Diwani honeymoon murder case, Ankita Bhandari case etc are just a few Indian cases while there are others which are way too gruesome and yet to be solved.
aftab case was so shocking. megan should really cover that. i would love her insight, since i dont understand that language and not many things are clear to me
Cases like this always remind me of the question: are monsters made or born? Did the beatings cause brain damage, or was he born with a loose wire? May all the victims RIP
More than most, they are made. I have been into True Crime for as long as I can remember, and there is almost always bad parenting, childhood trauma (physical, emotional or sexual) that is a consistent pattern in these criminals or serial killers. However, brain injuries can also be a precipitating factor.. just not as usually.
I think psychopaths are made, if not then they are pure evil like Ted Bundy who has a loving and religious family. Children that are showing psychopathic behavior can be healed if treated very young. I think psychopaths have Reactive Attachment Disorder when they were young, they are most likely abused by the family members. Just search the case of Beth Thomas. She was known as child psychopath but her adoptive parents rehab her and she was healed. Now she is a nurse and working with children who have RAD. She's normal now with a family of her own.
@@CherrieHibayainternetjunkie actually, Bundy did not have a loving family at all. He was illegitimate, and his grandfather whom he lived with for some time, was extremely abusive and possibly had a psychiatric condition. Also, after his death, there has been sufficient evidence to show that he had been horrifically sexually abused by some family member(s) and even his temporal lobe had some abnormalities showing possible blunt force trauma. What's more, the psychiatrist who had his case diagnosed him with DID years after he died based on evidence. I don't believe anyone can be born evil, or is purely evil without any predisposing or precipitating events that contribute to it. Many people go through trauma, and everyone handles it differently. A small percentage of these people end up as sociopaths/psychopaths and consequently, criminals.
@@eisha4755Wrong. Theres no known recipe , experts still dont know what exactly makes these monsters. The variables are just too many.Heck I had a horrendous childhood, yet I chose not to turn into a serial killer.
Cases like this often involve people who have what psychologists call anti-social personality disorder (this used to be called psychopathy). This is a spectrum and includes both psychopaths and what people generally call “sociopaths.” Psychologists will tell you that psychopaths are born that way while sociopaths are made that way.
Megan, it amazing how you calmly narrate the events of true crime stories. Unfortunate that like here in some states of th U.S. Taiwan abolished the death penalty. People who commit such need to be felt with harshly. Your channel is so good.
I watched many true crimes channel, this is the only one that i could watch/listen to while closing my eyes & catch up every single words & details without missing anything or need to turn on the cc. My English listening n comprehension skills is quite poor so i really appreciate how Megan executes the narrations. Thank you megan!
Each gruesome detail just got worse as the minutes of the video passed, ending with cannibalism. Thank heavens this evil being was caught before he had his hands on more victims. Superb storytelling, once again.
I am so glad I found this youtuber! Thank you so much for the clear pronounciation since Im not so good with English. I can understand the video better than a lot of other true crime youtubers! You are going to be my new fave tc youtuber. keep up the good work! Imma share this to my tc friends
i'm happy that I found ur channel, but deeply sorry for the victims. As a girl liviing in India ,I think it is important for us girls to understand the severty of crimes out there and be careful. No matter how hard we try ,we can't end all evil and that's why we shou ld be careful and aware and make others aware too. here is a case I think u should cover :the priyanka case of hyedrabad ,

Beautifully done, I just found your videos!!! Lovely to see you in the true crime community ❤❤❤ and thank you for the subtitles, I use them for everything so it was nice to have them already up :) thank you!
Interesting shows Megan, I heard there are lot of intense murder cases in Hong Kong back in 70s, 80's, 90's and so on. I like to see more of those cases.
The background music was just a tad too loud in this one. Your voice blended in with its tones during a lot of parts. Even for viewers who don't have hearing loss like me, I think it might be tough to understand if they aren't watching the subtitles. That being said, I love the hard subtitles you have in your videos! Mad props for accessibility. Definitely helps me on my bad days. ^^

You’ve become one of my favorite true crime channels. It’s cool that you’re showing cases that most other channels don’t cover and that we don’t hear about in the US. Your narration is really good. With the quality content you put out I’m sure you’ll be at a million subs before long!
