I am always appreciative of how well Megan pronounces Japanese names and places. I know she does her research to make sure but I never see people pronounce it this well! Thank you always for your videos!
She actually does have a professional history in both law and journalism I believe! She's hands down one of the most reputable creators to get true crime information from. She never treats real cases as entertainment and even goes over the community and police responses to the crimes, giving us a really good understanding of how criminality impacts both the local and wider communities. She's gotten interviews where she was poised and respectfully somber as she listened to people tell her the truly horrible things they've been through. I'm going to go rewatch the case of the soldier that was struggling with some pretty intense bullying and assault during his time in the army. Because I feel like people talk about how badly people are broken down in the US army but Megan has covered maybe two or three stories where she discusses the major issues that stem from the S. Korean armed forces and how the hierarchy there is causing very real world harm to their own teammates. I will legitimately sing this woman's praises for days. Too many people treat true crime as entertainment and it legitimately stresses me out. So the fact that she legitimately reports on cases and asks her audience to genuinely reflect on the cases she brings up is really important to me. A bit parasocial maybe but the true crime landscape is seriously suffering right now. 😭
@@chihiro90 Seems to me their point is, it is more than just something that comes naturally, rather something she puts work into. And efforts deserve due credit.
Random Japanese here, and yup, I was in high school when she was arrested, and her face was all over the media during the last few weeks right before the 15 years were about to expire. We were all aware of what she looked like and how she sounded. Once she was arrested, the image of her sobbing with her head covered in a coat was shown on the news, and I remember her hands peaking from underneath the coat, and she was wearing red nail polish. She died behind bars, all sad and lonely. Fitting ending for her, I suppose. What a sad life though, she did seem to be a smart woman with great communication skills. She could have lived a nice life if she wasn't such a jealous woman.
What a crazy story! And if she had just stayed hidden a matter of days longer she would have remained free. Did she just get tired of hiding or did she want to pay for her crime on some level? Thanks, Megan!
In my country, there is a saying that"days of a thief are 40".the fact that they located her on the 39th day before she escaped their grasp again says a lot...

I just wanna know how her son was able to escape the police's notice? I don't know about her other children but the fact Fukuda still kept in contact with him throughout the years, to the point he got married, how incompetent were the police? Didn't it enter their mind to keep an eye on the son these whole time? 🤔thank you for this Megan!
She kept in contact with more family than her son throughout the years. There’s no telling who she gave what story to at any given time. The cops even got tips from “some” family members. Not all. And it’s incredibly easy to train a child to keep secrets (and loyalty)-especially when you attach it to losing your mother. She just kept up enough obfuscation to cause confusion long enough for her to come up with a different plan.
No. Way. I was literally just watching reruns of ofher videos talking about her and hoping for a new video on her, and sure enough Mama Meg comes thru 😭💖 You are genuinely an inspiration, and we’re sending you and your new baby all the love!
Megan, i hope you can cover the recent martial law incident in South Korea. While there's (thankfully) no life being loss, its interesting to dissect as to why and what happened. Thank you!
Even after her arrest, Kazuko continued to give false statements in order to make the statute of limitations expire, causing trouble for the police until the very end.
"This story is both chilling and fascinating-a woman who lived multiple lives, evading justice for 15 years while carrying the weight of her crime. Kazuko Fukuda's tale isn't just about the crime itself but the lengths she went to reshape her identity, even fooling those closest to her. It’s a haunting reminder that no matter how far you run or how well you hide, the shadow of guilt will always follow. It’s baffling to me that in Japan that they have a statute for murder. How do the families find justice? How do they begin to heal from the loss of a loved one; perhaps a mother, father or a child? It was quite a wild ride that Kazuko was able to be free for close to 15 years with only hours to spare as she traveled throughout the country complete with plastic surgery as well. 🕊️🕊️RIP Atsuko Yasuoka 🕊️🕊️

In Kazakhstan, a 16-year-old boy named Sherzat was brutally murdered right in front of his brother. The perpetrators split Sherzat's head in two. Despite the family's efforts to bring justice, the case has dragged on with no response from authorities. Recently, it was reported that Sherzat's brother was also killed, with claims of suicide being false. Their house was burned down, and their grandmother was placed in a psychiatric institution. I hate how brilliantly cunning she is. I won’t lie, I was also starting to believe she might get away with it, after all. She managed to run and hide, while keeping contact with her family. I don’t know if she was that illusive or the police were that incompetent. She definitely had a lot of luck, and it’s sad that jealousy made her end someone’s life so senselessly. I guess, I find solace in her eventually being caught. 17 years in prison, is still justice, I guess. Megan, thank you for excellent storytelling 🙏🏾💛💜

Might sound strange, yes she is certainly a ruthless predator though i can't help but feel a bit of sympathy for her, ive come across many girls from a formative background as herself and i can see how she evolved into what she did. Not discounting her victims abd the grief she caused its just I can see why she did this to an extent or some of the factors that would have prompted her to this. Inside her mind somewhere there was a broken little girl with that did what she did to survive in what seems to be a trapped order she couldn't escape. Its no wonder she applied it to others in later years as she would have been all too aware of the implications and applications of tricks and traps. Surely there must be conditions / exceptions to statute of limitations, otherwise criminals would be abusing it like no tomorrow?
The fact that there even is a statute of limitations for murd3r is crazy.
