    Dude....this is exactly how I want to build my m1028. I'm well on my way. Got 24 bolt humvee wheels just today. MTRs are coming.

    Great build. I just recently purchased my first CUCV. The same one actually 1986 M1031. Mine didn’t come with the maintenance bed but instead a fabricated to fit military trailer bed. Your build is almost exactly what I intended to do with the exception of lifting that much. Thanks for posting the end result. I’d love to see the 203 205 doubler when it’s done.

      Ryan Keoughan I’m due to post an updated video. Lots of time and money have been put into the truck since this video was made. It now has a new 4L80 transmission and the 203/205 are mounted up. Waiting on the driveshafts now...

      06_Bowtie Glad you like my video. These old trucks are constantly needing attention and money but it is a hobby. Not being a daily driver makes it a fun hobby and not an obligation to keep in top running condition. Dumping cash into these trucks is easy to do. It’s also a fun project.

    Did you change out the whole steering column? Or just the steering wheel? If so how much fab did it take to change over?

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just the steering wheel. It was quite simple actually. Just remove the nut and borrow a steering wheel puller from Autozone or Oreiley’s.

    Nice Truck Man! When you get Tired of the Diesel, I would recommend an LS swap, I Have a M1028 with a 5.3L out of a 2001 truck and love it. With the 4.54 gears it is a beast and it is fast but I will upgrade to a 6.0 in a few month.

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ZE_GERMAN I had considered a 6.0 or an 8.1 but I love 18 mpg on the highway. Not a lot of power but enough torque to turn the 203/205 transfer case...

      Forget the LS crap. That entails wholesale changes to fir in square body. If you want a gasser go with a GM crate engine. It will drop right into the motor mounts, and the rewiring through the bulkhead is simple.

    Awesome build. Why spacers on the back instead of dually hubs like on the front?

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had Lenny Stahl make quality spacers for the rear. Honestly, they are rock solid. I could have had him make an identical set for the front and been good to go but I sourced the dually hubs at a really good price. I retained the SRW hubs for the front should I ever decide to go to civvy wheels. It will be easy for me to revert back to a common wheel if my HMMWV tires become hard to get.

    • @xmo552
      @xmo552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well...Also, a dually has a narrow rear. So installing dually hubs would make the rear width something like 2 feet apart and the wheels wouldn't even mount. The single wheel rear is widest. It's close to a match for the front. The wheels mount up, spacers in back makes the width almost perfect.
      Although you always want the front to be wider than the rear by a smidge or rear narrower than the front by a smidge.

  • @dantman9307
    @dantman9307 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you like how the rear tires are more forward in the wheel well? any way to get them to be more centered? thanks

    • @ctopher454
      @ctopher454 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Offroaddesign.Com and/or diy4x.Com sell centering kits. Moving the axle forward or backward, putting rear springs in the front, all these things help with approach and departure angles.

  • @thomasnaranjo366
    @thomasnaranjo366 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not 2in spacers in the front instead of the dually hubs. I have the same tires and rims combo should I get the dually hubs for the front.

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dually hubs are absolutely the right way to run HMMWV wheels on the front axle of these trucks. If you are considering using cheap Chinese aluminum spacers on your truck, update your life insurance policy. I actually wheel my truck pretty hard now and really rely on the mighty Dana 60 to not fail me. Spacers on the steer axle are not something that I’m willing to do.

    • @thomasnaranjo366
      @thomasnaranjo366 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@glockfan I have seen some American-made steel wheel spacers out there but they're quite expensive. I try not to buy Chinese if I don't have to.

    What are the two levers on the floor? A manual and a gear splitter or something?

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ranch Davidian I actually have three on the floor now. At the time, this was when I had my NP205 transfer case “twin sticked”. Each lever controls the gear range of one axle. I’ve added an NP203 range box to the NP205 which effectively doubles the low range gearing. I now have a choice between 2:1 low range or 4:1 “low low” range now. I guess if you count the shifter for the 4L80E, I have four sticks now... I’ve bled money man...

    Why 1028 not 1008?

    • @glockfan

      Because it has an NP205 transfer case, it came with a factory traclok differential up front, and it was a shelter carrier. The 1008’s had an NP208 transfer case and an open front diff.

    • @glockfan
      @glockfan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mike Tamez 6” springs in front shackle flip and 2” blocks in the back. With the 5/4-Ton springs in the rear, it is about an 8” lift. I have a set of 1” zero rates to add to the front which will be maybe 7”. All parts are Offroad Design (ORD).
