🇺🇦 The US has closed its embassy in Kyiv after receiving “specific information about a potential significant air attack”. Johnny, it might be a good time to come to Poland.
@JohnnyFD Why is Ukraine escalating the war with USA made missiles? You don't think Putin is going to retaliate? What a foolish move on Zelenski's part. Just stop it.
Johnny this is one of your best videos! Your story telling and editing skills has taken a huge step forward in the last few years. Mic feedback is that I am looking at buying one myself as there was a very good balance of sound. Stay strong Ukraine, Slava Ukrainia!!
Hey Johnny: Feedback report on your Mic. with the noise cancelling function turned off. The balance of the background noise to your voice is well balanced in my opinion. Boy my heart goes out to your students who brave the missile attacks to the power shortages but mostly the uncertainty of The War if Ukraine will be chopped up in piece mail and given to Russia. Maybe in your classes you can tell how some typical Americans celebrate Thanksgiving & Christmas. You have a great connection with those kids. They will certainly miss you when you have to leave. Another Warm-hearted video Johnny. 🎉
Maybe you should look into who started this whole thing (Victoria Nuland,CIA) You guys were wrong (lied to) about Irag and Afghanistan. Stay at home and better your country instead
Maybe you should became ukrainian and learn the history of our land .Russia as an imperialistic creation has been causing trouble in our land 400 years ago long before Vic N was born 22:02 @YakubFloyd
11:00 I watched a video knowing the difference so a bit one is 5 stories vs 10 stories or something. then in the lobbies , so if you go into the buildings then the type elevator it has can help id it. As soviet building code varied, the set limits on the number of floors and if an elevator was needed and the type of elevator. Later buildings during 1980s etc.. started to break the building code so you may see 6 story buildings. Khrushchevkas for instance we kept relatively low so they didnt need to add an elevator 5 floors or less. Some Khrushchevkas were modified later on but the new floors may not look the same as the first 3-5 floors as they were added onto the previous floors. brezhnevkas are basically high rises more than 5 floors and will have elevator and things like garbage disposal systems. Concrete was a post war construction material and concrete block buildings became normalized after the Great Patriotic War during the rebuilding and to provide housing for the urban populations. Most of the prerevolutionary buildings will be churches and government buildings, monastery etc.. However churches were often converted after the revolution to serve other purposes. There likely isn't a lot of prerevolutionary buildings but the historic district of kiev and the monastery would probably make good tour spots. Its also important to understand that large chunks of eastern Ukraine were Poland before WWII but the Soviet Union redrew Ukraine SSRs borders awarding a chunk of poland to Ukraine and a chunk of Germany to Poland. After World War II, Ukraine was given land from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and much later Crimea. This expanded the territory of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic So these areas may have only buildings that were not soviet if they predate the land transfers. After WWII those countries falling under the Iron Curtain started to emulate some soviet architectural styles. WWII battle of kiev was a pretty massive battle with claimed 665,212 prisoners 824 tanks destroyed or captured and 3,436 artillery and anti-tank guns destroyed or captured. Whether true or not it gives you idea of the scale of a battle where hundreds of thousands of people were offed or captured. Also thousands of artillery pecies in 1941 is no small number. You can only imagine how much force was brought to Kiev and how much of the city must have been damaged. The city was heavily bombarded, especially at the beginning of the war. Many architectural landmarks were destroyed, including on the main street, Khreschatyk. The city was largely destroyed. AND that was just the first battle of kiev where the Germans were destroying the city, the soviets returned 2 years later in the 2nd battle of kiev. Check out the wikipedia page for Battle of Kiev (1943) to get an idea of the scale of damage.
Thanks for the info William. It's interesting info, I just use you used paragaph breaks to make it easier to read. Any chance you can find that video explainer again? It sounds interesting.
I really enjoy these vlogs about life in Ukraine and your routine. It’s fascinating to see the city, the architecture, and how Ukrainians live. Thanks, Johnny!
The students seem well behaved. This sort of class would have been unthinkable in the sort of schools I went to in Britain. Every class always had children being very badly behaved and disruptive. It meant good students were massively held back and got lower grades than they could have got. If your school was in any large British city or town it would have metal detectors and security guards because of routine stabbings and violence in school. It's a really depressing and anti social culture in Britain. I would hate for Ukraine to lose their culture and become like us.
Thanks for the walking tour. Just FYI...The very first thing that the US military did in both Iraq wars was to bomb all electric, gas and water infrastructure, No one in the US mass media or government called that a war crime. But as we now know, tens of thousands of innocent civilians died because of it. The water shortages were then exploited by ISIS, who kept blowing up the water sub stations. The danger in throwing the term "war crime" around, is that it dilutes the terms' meaning, the relevance. Tragically, this is war, and civilians end up suffering the most.
iraq is not freezing in winters and ukraine didn't invade iran with millions dead or kuvait or gassed kurdish villages. not that i 100% support invasion of iraq.
@@marions7423 He does not mention it because the western mass media has already given us a Tsunami of propaganda much of which has proven not to be true. Well, maybe Iraq shouldn't have attacked neighboring countries several years before that? And causing an ecological catastrophe by bombing oil wells? An enjoyable stream Johnny. Always keen to hear you talking candidly about your past adventures and reasons for retirement. I managed to stay working until 55, and never looked back once I was done with it, even though the job had been fun and rewarding. You just know when the time is right. First two days of cold weather here in UK (it's been a freakishly warm Autumn and beginning of Winter), so I was imagining the misery of no heat, electricity etc. Most of those who could afford it, would be leaving Ukraine for the Winter months, and searching for warmer climes, so don't feel any shame or regret in doing so. Thank you Johnny for another installment and wishing you continued safety. You are correct, when a person moves overseas they lose touch with their friends, but you have so many friends and you have a friend right here. It is said, Erik the Red and his followers founded Kyiv when they were kicked out of Scandinavia, their descendants continued to settle eastward and became known as the "Rus" meaning the "Reds"
No, Johnny go to the shelter for precaution or leave the country. Why not? Can you? I honestly do not know how I would feel in the situation many Ukranians are living right now. I am so scared just watching the news never mind living in a war zone!!!!!!! Peace for Ukraine!
The air alarms happen almost everyday, often in the middle of the night, it's not a way to live leaving your house, going out into the cold for 2-4 hours a day hiding.
That was a great video, the picture and the sound were perfect. 👌 It really is a shame and horrid, what russia, is doing to Ukraine, it really is, i hate to see it. I want to visit there one day, i just hope i can. ! The food seems so good and cheap there as well. Such a beautiful country and architecture ect. Sad that you have to leave in 2 weeks, because of the power loss in winter, hope you come back to Ukraine again. Thanks and Slava Ukraini..✌🟨🟦
Johnny, consider ditching the fruit phone cult and defect to Android, you'll never look back with either Pixel 8 pro or Pixel 9 pro, photography, video and found quality are fantastic.
My compliments on your honest and open narration and the spectacularly detailed high definition video and sound footage. The new iPhone and mic adds a lot to the real life sense of atmosphere. A cinematic experience that I associate with some cult movies made on old school super expensive full sized 35mm film motion cameras. Thanks
I don’t know if the camera and mic had an influence. But I loved the introspection and extrospection you gave today. It was great and my heart still breaks for Ukraine but I’m glad you’re getting out soon. Be safe, be well. You bring light. 💙
Looks and sounds great. 1080p60 combined with well balanced ambient noice makes wonders. Zoom is a big plus. Took a few years but you now have the best setup. Even the sceneries and your chatter were interesting.
My iPhone 15 pro max seems to last a long time. Maybe you can try turning off the always-on display and see if that helps at all. Btw the mic is much better now.

Love the iPhone camera zoom. Great cityscape revoir. Please though - take shelter. There’s a great line from Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, “The dead know only one thing, it is better to be alive”. It sounds bleak, but it’s actually a sentiment of hope strength and survival! Hang tough. Christmas is coming soon! Cheers!

You're a good man Johnny! Enjoy your next adventure & be safe during your travels. The video & sound quality is next level. Depending on where you are, the ambient noise isn't a factor but it gives an appreciation of life in Ukraine during these times of hardship. Ukrainians are incredibly resilient. Russia will be defeated. They will never break the spirit of Ukraine.
The sound is better with noise cancellation turned OFF. Background noise sound more natural. The previous video sounded like you recorded your voice in a studio. Anyway, both videos have much better sound than your old iPhone. 😊
Sadly that was why I cancelled my trip at the begining of the year due to power outages and it being COOOLLLD! I'm really wanting to plan another attempted trip to Lviv next summer while hoping that things are better. But knowing the disgusting administration that will be in charge in the US, I can only pray that they are and hope that the EU stepped up to fill the void. SLAVA UKRAINE!!!
The mic sounds much better! Can hear all the ambient noises and such. It sounds really good. You’re having too much fun with the zoom lol I’ve got the 14 pro max. It’s a lot of fun and the camera is so good now. Can compare to a full frame DSLR in many aspects.
Thanks for showing us the views of everyday life in Ukraine. Love the blue and yellow trains since blue is my favorite color. Going to the basement for safety would be easier in a house. Once in awhile for tornado is ok but every day life would be so hard doing it every day. Stay safe as possible there.Much respect you are there and helping the kids.

Green light for ATACMS? Is this true?
About a year too late for maximum effectiveness, but yes, I believe it's finally come true.
I think only in the Kursk region so far.
been watching a long time and your sound is way better. good upgrade.
All the best to all We have friends Ukraninian here in czech too
The sound is better with noise cancellation turned OFF. Background noise sound more natural. The previous video sounded like you recorded your voice in a studio. Anyway, both videos have much better sound than your old iPhone. 😊
Yeah, I think I like it better this way too.
I enjoy your mic with the noise cancelling turned off, it sounds more natural
The filming is like HD...wow....
I'm glad you like it!
A nice personal video essay. 👏
Hey Johnny. Are you heading to Thailand, by any chance?
I saw you a couple of years ago walking past Terminal 21 in Pattaya...
Love the new mic❤
Not many young men around, which is sad :(

U.S. embassy is saying a massive air raid is Coming to Kiev. Stay safe
Ha Johnny just a quick question have you checked in on Max I see he was in the Hospital ❤
I think it’s time to leave Ukraine homie.. stay safe!
The mic sounds much better! Can hear all the ambient noises and such. It sounds really good. You’re having too much fun with the zoom lol I’ve got the 14 pro max. It’s a lot of fun and the camera is so good now. Can compare to a full frame DSLR in many aspects.
Thanks for letting me know! And YES, I love the 5x zoom!
Gorgeous hat Johnny.
You're welcome Lisa, and I agree, if it was inside my house itself, it'd be easier, but even then, not every day.
Great video Johnny! Are you going to buy some presents for your students and the teacher before your vacation?🙂
What should I get them? =)
Winter scarf with colors of Ukraine would be nice 👍 @@JohnnyFD

The kiev opera is quite good.
Sound is perfect, you are clear and can still hear background noise without it being overwhelming!

That sound, in the subway, would be very hard to hear, for deaf people?!🤔
