Hey Johnny: Feedback report on your Mic. with the noise cancelling function turned off. The balance of the background noise to your voice is well balanced in my opinion. Boy my heart goes out to your students who brave the missile attacks to the power shortages but mostly the uncertainty of The War if Ukraine will be chopped up in piece mail and given to Russia. Maybe in your classes you can tell how some typical Americans celebrate Thanksgiving & Christmas. You have a great connection with those kids. They will certainly miss you when you have to leave. 11:00 I watched a video knowing the difference so a bit one is 5 stories vs 10 stories or something. then in the lobbies , so if you go into the buildings then the type elevator it has can help id it. As soviet building code varied, the set limits on the number of floors and if an elevator was needed and the type of elevator. Later buildings during 1980s etc.. started to break the building code so you may see 6 story buildings. Khrushchevkas for instance we kept relatively low so they didnt need to add an elevator 5 floors or less. Some Khrushchevkas were modified later on but the new floors may not look the same as the first 3-5 floors as they were added onto the previous floors. brezhnevkas are basically high rises more than 5 floors and will have elevator and things like garbage disposal systems. Concrete was a post war construction material and concrete block buildings became normalized after the Great Patriotic War during the rebuilding and to provide housing for the urban populations. Most of the prerevolutionary buildings will be churches and government buildings, monastery etc.. However churches were often converted after the revolution to serve other purposes. There likely isn't a lot of prerevolutionary buildings but the historic district of kiev and the monastery would probably make good tour spots. Its also important to understand that large chunks of eastern Ukraine were Poland before WWII but the Soviet Union redrew Ukraine SSRs borders awarding a chunk of poland to Ukraine and a chunk of Germany to Poland. After World War II, Ukraine was given land from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and much later Crimea. This expanded the territory of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic So these areas may have only buildings that were not soviet if they predate the land transfers. After WWII those countries falling under the Iron Curtain started to emulate some soviet architectural styles. WWII battle of kiev was a pretty massive battle with claimed 665,212 prisoners 824 tanks destroyed or captured and 3,436 artillery and anti-tank guns destroyed or captured. Whether true or not it gives you idea of the scale of a battle where hundreds of thousands of people were offed or captured. Also thousands of artillery pecies in 1941 is no small number. You can only imagine how much force was brought to Kiev and how much of the city must have been damaged. The city was heavily bombarded, especially at the beginning of the war.
Many architectural landmarks were destroyed, including on the main street, Khreschatyk.
The city was largely destroyed. AND that was just the first battle of kiev where the Germans were destroying the city, the soviets returned 2 years later in the 2nd battle of kiev. Check out the wikipedia page for Battle of Kiev (1943) to get an idea of the scale of damage.

The students seem well behaved. This sort of class would have been unthinkable in the sort of schools I went to in Britain. Every class always had children being very badly behaved and disruptive. It meant good students were massively held back and got lower grades than they could have got.
If your school was in any large British city or town it would have metal detectors and security guards because of routine stabbings and violence in school. It's a really depressing and anti social culture in Britain. I would hate for Ukraine to lose their culture and become like us.

Thanks for the walking tour. Just FYI...The very first thing that the US military did in both Iraq wars was to bomb all electric, gas and water infrastructure, No one in the US mass media or government called that a war crime. But as we now know, tens of thousands of innocent civilians died because of it. The water shortages were then exploited by ISIS, who kept blowing up the water sub stations. The danger in throwing the term "war crime" around, is that it dilutes the terms' meaning, the relevance. Tragically, this is war, and civilians end up suffering the most.

An enjoyable stream Johnny. Always keen to hear you talking candidly about your past adventures and reasons for retirement. I managed to stay working until 55, and never looked back once I was done with it, even though the job had been fun and rewarding. You just know when the time is right. First two days of cold weather here in UK (it's been a freakishly warm Autumn and beginning of Winter), so I was imagining the misery of no heat, electricity etc. Most of those who could afford it, would be leaving Ukraine for the Winter months, and searching for warmer climes, so don't feel any shame or regret in doing so. Anyway, take care of yourself and thanks for the streams.

Yes, it works and is a good idea. But it's also expensive, a proper setup will be $1,000usd minimum.

Enjoy your next adventure & be safe during your travels.
The video & sound quality is next level.
Depending on where you are, the ambient noise isn't a factor but it gives an appreciation of life in Ukraine during these times of hardship. Ukrainians are incredibly resilient. Russia will be defeated. They will never break the spirit of Ukraine.

The sound is better with noise cancellation turned OFF. Background noise sound more natural. The previous video sounded like you recorded your voice in a studio. Anyway, both videos have much better sound than your old iPhone. 😊

Sadly that was why I cancelled my trip at the begining of the year due to power outages and it being COOOLLLD! I'm really wanting to plan another attempted trip to Lviv next summer while hoping that things are better. But knowing the disgusting administration that will be in charge in the US, I can only pray that they are and hope that the EU stepped up to fill the void. SLAVA UKRAINE!!!

Thanks for showing us the views of everyday life in Ukraine. Love the blue and yellow trains since blue is my favorite color. Going to the basement for safety would be easier in a house. Once in awhile for tornado is ok but every day life would be so hard doing it every day. Stay safe as possible there.Much respect you are there and helping the kids.
