A good balance of old and new mechanics! Keeping the fixed camera angles along with beautifully designed third person gameplay when the game "needs" it!
This is breathtakingly good, it's amazing how the right atmosphere and tension can make environments we've seen ten times over seem like entirely new areas.
I liked the Resident Evil 4 we got, but I wish they had released the beta versions of the fog version, the hook man version and the mansion version put together. I found the 3.5 beta versions scarier than the official Resident Evil 4.
I think that the 3.5 concept would have had way more potential than the actual released game (even if it still remains a great game). The scary exploration and the paranormal style ... just amazing. The only problem for the developers maybe was to enstablish a good story behind the game.
When it comes to the aspect of true Survival Horror, this little 17-minute demo beat out both RE5 and RE6 combined. it almost even had a little bit of a Silent Hill atmosphere to it, with things appearing and disappearing, and the creepy radio. Why couldn't Capcom just keep RE with this kind of survival horror style... props to the creator of this demo!
Dr Strangelove After playing the RE7 demo extensively and getting the coin, in my opinion I believe its going to bring back that creepy factor that RE lost so many years ago when it decided to go towards a more action-oriented direction. I'm glad Capcom teamed with members of Konami's old SH poject group, two legendary developers teaming up to make a badass game, and it shows in the demo. Very intricate and detailed with the RE-style puzzles and storyline, and the ambience and chill factor of Silent Hills PT. Curious to see what virus it is, the time frame and relevance to the other RE main characters, Umbrellas involvement, and what the canon storyline will be.
***** I'm an old biohazard fan as well, but just out of my own curiosity: What would you like to see happen next in the franchise? From a true fan like yourself, and not a newer re4+ fan
Samuel Fox im an old school fan as well. especially 2 was great. for me i just want old school zombies and jumpscares. besides a couple of herbs and nearly enough ammo to survive would be good too. dont like the turn the story took with re4. Im really looking forward to re7 in the hope ill get proper jumps and hopefully they rewinded the plagas shit
Wousley I'm with you on that, you described the same desire for the franchise that I have. I liked the zombies as an accidental flaw of the t-virus; slow and single minded hosts, and never used in actual combat situations, barring crimson heads. Las plagas turned me off, and honestly re6 left me with more questions about the canon storyline than answers, so maybe re7 will take place sometime after 3 or cv? Especially if old umbrella is in it. The simpler the better, with focus on jumpscare gameplay, literally trying to survive, and creep factors that made re the legend franchise that it is.

daedra40 tbf, while the camera angles and controls weren't the best in the original resident evils, they do add to the panic and horror in some ways as you can't always directly see what you want to see and might struggle to actually move or fight back and stuff. It kind of resembles confusion and panic and stuff in some ways. You sure as hell do get used to them as you play though, and all in all they're not that bad. They could be worse. This recreation's camera angles are pretty weird though...
@DeltaGem And DMC1 had it too due to it was originally going to be RE4 before that version ended up being too action-base and ended up becoming a separate franchise(Devil May Cry)
These kinds of camera angles really add a voyeuristic atmosphere that bumps up the creep factor. You see similar camera angles in Haunting Ground. IMO making the latest mainline Resident Evils first person games took away a big part of what made the series stand out.
This mansion kind of looks like the one from the Lost in nightmares DLC in resident evil 5. Which incidentally with the current Spencer mansion at that time. At least it does in the entrance area. Probably where they got that design for the DLC
this is the perfect atmosphere and game cameras plus gameplay required to satisfy my thirst of survival horror , this demo is outstanding and i want to give a good amount of thanks to the guy that made the demo , really good job!
I love it looks like a lot of what this version was is used for inspiration for 7 the creepy atmosphere and more psychological horror the new one looks a lot like this just in first person can't wait to try it
I liked the way the fixed camera angle keeps switching back and forth in this. Personally I think this is how the RE 2 remake should be. I think it would be good a balance for those who want the fixed camera angles and those who want it over the shoulder.
Jack Torrance It might also be kind of nice to have the option for third person or fixed camera angles while not aiming, and when aiming it goes back to tps over the shoulder view.

This game shows a lot of promise, I really like the mashup of Resident Evil and Silent Hill elements. I kinda feel like they should take this concept and make it into their own thing instead of borrowing assets from Capcom, though. Partly because I feel like Capcom would probably claim copyright if they're taking their models, but it's harder to claim copyright on the concept itself.
i love this too much, thank you for playing it. i really like how lonely and isolated res 3.5 feels, it sets such a good, classic horror tone. can't help but feel how the rest of res evil would have played out if this were the res 4 that we got. out of curiosity, shn, would you have preferred capcom pursued and released res 4 as res 3.5, or do you like res 4 the way it is?
Capcom's decision not to progress with Kawamura's concepts & experimental gameplay was the death of Survival Horror within the Resident Evil series for me. So much was done for this original idea. I hate to see that they had to scrap it and rewrite the whole thing, but I would love to see this idea and concept area being reused for an updated sequel. It's a very dark and eerie atmosphere, with a few surprises here and there. It obviously has some puzzle points, and even had some of it's own enemy designs apart from the rest of the entire franchise. Little dolls in manikins coming to life, suits of armor being possessed momentarily, paintings coming to life with fog like spirit entities that are also zombie like coming out of them? Taxidermy animal heads coming to life momentarily as well to fall onto the floor and freak out the player?! So much was put into this game that could definitely get rehashed and polished up for a sequel.
This is scarier than the actual Resident Evil 4.
Agreed.
