It is wonderful to see Sylt again from this spot! I climbed the original tower in 1975 when it was still the U.S. Coast Guard LORAN Station Sylt. Slight correction: the tower was a radio transmitter, not radar.
(google translate)

Zum Triangulieren werden nur Sende Masten verwendet, für GPS. Satelitten für GPS sind eine große Lüge.

@@borntoclimb7116 I think this tower was erected in 1996.

This is one of the coolest videos I've seen... That location is totally serene. The island looks like a ghost town. Awesome, thanks for posting!

Luckily for them they weren’t transmitting that day touching that tower would have killed them, it’s not abandoned.

Damn, that is scary, then we really got lucky... I was worried for radiation but we were certain that it was shut down in 2015 (at least all online sources said so). So the tower itself would've been electrified if they had used it that day? We also almost got caught by a worker on our way down, maybe he even turned it on right after we'd left :o

@@natusexplorare5462 they still run test transmission every now and then remotely and there is still a technician that comes there to maintain the station. It could have been a very shocking experience for you the transmitter runs 800,000 watts at 100khz. The station could run full time someday if politicians understand the need for another source of navigation and timing other than just gps. I do appreciate seeing the view off the tower again reminds me of the last time I climbed it back in 1980.
