Protips: -Reinforcing plates will prevent the spring adjuster from cracking the aluminum upper arm. -Petroleum grease is not for brake parts. Use only silicone paste on the rubber boots and slider pins.
Coilovers are known to break the aluminium upper control arm on the e46 so you need to install reinforcing plates. The plates just sit between the upper control arm and the bottom of the coilover so are super simple to install, and are cheap too.
I see you guys did the smart thing and put the rear camber arms in while the subframe was off, hats off to you for the smart move. Next time try doing it without dropping the dog and using hand tools with just a floor jack.
Probably not the best to use petroleum based grease on brake parts. Unless the multi-purpose grease is ok with rubber bits that is. I like using silicone based grease on brake bits better. Love the series! Keep up the great work!
Man oh man, finaly done with the "Rust Wars" lol. About the rear gap, i would realllllllllly recommend going 0/zero to -1 deg MAX of rear camber for even tire wear while drifting, M3s have a rear multilink setup so it goes negative on load/squat. I can eyeball more than -1 on the rear hence the top is but sunken in. With less camber the top should pull out for a more flush look too ^_^
Are you going to replace the handbrake shoes? seems kinda silly you spend all this money on new rotors and pads then miss the one thing you actually need while drifting.
Prime example of why I wear safety toe boots in a shop. Eliminates the need to be mindful of where your feet are placed at all times. Plus I get careless and things hit my feet. It’s way easier to have safety toes and not need them than need them and not have them.
Unless you reinforced the rear subframe and front shock towers, I'd highly recommend you don't track or race, unless you want some nice surprises in forms of ripped subframe mounts and mushroomed shock towers later.
I normally don't comment on videos but did you use high temperature silicone grease for the caliper slide pins? If you use normal grease you could encounter problems with it baking and not sliding properly.
Yeah the grease they used is for wheel bearings and suspension grease fittings, not for caliper sliding pins. You guys should definitely used something like Sil-Glyde because thats rated for twice the temperature that bearing grease is rated for. your gonna need it on a drift car lol
I'm gonna be that guy...technically these aren't coilovers, but that aside, great and informative video as usual! Really love watching all your builds!
My bmw has the same rear bumper gap because my battery tray bottom is rusted out so I had to strap my battery up.....the weight of the battery pushes it out
All the BMW nut hugger will say . This is normal and a racecar from factory need all this maintenance. Lol they never own a Japanese car( Honda). Sheet metal weak ares , frame cracking WOW. BMW is a business to sell you cars not one car forever

ECS Tuning sells the rear shock mount plate for e46 convertibles it’s basically half of the plate so you can slide it through the holes
calling this thing a 4000$ car is probably the understatement of the year. LOL
It's probably well over 14k by now lol.

@@feelthatfeelthat you right lol i forgot to adjust for CAD
Ha! You're not wrong but it did start life as a $4K M3. With all the maintenance we've put into it, it's more like a $6K M3.
Speaking of big threaded studs(6:35) Where is Moose???
I love verts i really do think they look the best. The black interior looks super nice to.
Nice I also will be working on the subframe and bushings.. similar to what you have.. next I will do the cooling
Yes!!!! This car has to feel new now!
Torquing down all those new bushings at full suspension drop is a good way to tear them up when it gets down on it's wheels again.
Convertibles with a roll cage is a great look on verts. I can't wait to do mine.
Who knew working on the rear would be such pain in the rear! Looking great now though, good job guys!
I see you guys did the smart thing and put the rear camber arms in while the subframe was off, hats off to you for the smart move.

Slide those rubber guides in the opposite way! They go in like butter!
Coming along nicely there, loving the wheels too
remove the soft top and put on a permanent hard top

You can put the rear reinforcement plates if you remove the top protector its just 20+ bolts. I have e46 vert too.

To calculate amount of wheel poke at the top due to camber just:
poke_inMM = tireDiameter_inMM * sin(camberAngle)
Looking back at this 4k e46, it probably goes for 15k plus now.
This is such a great series! Keep it up

Man I was ready to hear this thing start up
It's almost there!
Great Job Guys. This car is coming out awsome
Ready to see some Kraut boi slidies!

Guys, all that work, and shiny new parts, and you couldn't at least rattle-can the brake calipers??!
You had to know you'd be called out on that!
so why didn't you show the installation of the coilover and springs?
THOSE GOD DAMN GLOVES!!!
I concur with DP. Stanced is so passe. lol
Back at it again, great video
Well done. Looks good
At 4:43, you goofballs...😁👍

The grease container specifically says extreme pressure and high temperature on it.
@@speedacademydave Petroleum based grease will cause the seals to swell and seize the pins.
@@TheCdnSTIG interesting, I will tell Pete to smarten up :P
STANCE!
$4k lmao! There's at least $10k worth of parts on that money magnet plus a roll cage. Thanks for the funny though.
Please start it!!!!!
At this point you're probably closer to $40k than $4k, but at least it's been a lot of content for the channel getting this thing put together.
I'm gonna be that guy...technically these aren't coilovers, but that aside, great and informative video as usual! Really love watching all your builds!
It's coil springs on weight jacks and adjustable length shocks
Great work can’t wait to see the results from all this work 👍
My bmw has the same rear bumper gap because my battery tray bottom is rusted out so I had to strap my battery up.....the weight of the battery pushes it out
Awesome! But c'mon fix the gaps and remove some more rust, it deserves to look prettier
Why can't you fit the rear tower strengthening plates from beneath? They'll do the same job there surely?
I used to want an E46 M3, after watching this series, I don't want an E46 M3. 😀
Five Five Garage E46 M3 doesn’t want you !

What roll bar do you have. Looking for one for my e46 vert
Hey guys, this video is missing from the playlist for this build. It goes from Part 18 to Part 20.
Thanks for the tip!
Get wrekt Pete's shin!!! Lmao. Poor guy.
M3 is the best!
Hahaha, I'm just wondering when they will make these cars into drift cars and not street trackday cars :D
Asking the real questions right here!
These guys are way too straight laced to actually drift.
Hahaha yeah they will hopefully loosen up a tad after getting some track time 😂
Just to bug you: hellastanced
second thumbs up
You’ll have better dexterity with nitrile gloves rather than the style you have on
Don't lube ATE's brake guides. You must see docent86's blog about brake repair
Www.drive2.ru/users/docent86/
Sorry for my bad English
Paint the calipers man. New rotors and brakes painted subframe but old rusty calipers like wtf lol
This is nothing but advertisements. A minute can’t go buy with out another advertisement.
Why you re using a convertible as a build for a drift car...I will never understand.🤔
Dont ever sell this M3
So what we can gather from this video series is: Dont buy an E46 M3!
If it’s a drift car then disconnect that rear sway bar
calling this a drift build off is really misleading, your just doing a refrurbish or light tune up, nothing is drift related
Get a hardtop!

my friend has Mitsubishi EVO XI, the rally car for the road. Not realy cheap to maintain either;-)
