    Plastic can be gas permeable. If you really want to keep something for a long time, go the hipster mason jar route and vacuum seal it. A hole drilled in the lid with a shrader valve should work just fine.

    Awesome video. I learned a few things.
    2005 E46 M3 here.
    Next project:
    Fix drive shafts issues, bearing, guibo, and maybe the universal joint.
    Need new bushings in subframe. So I just bought a used subframe with fresh OEM bushings already installed. They are OEM and correctly installed.
    If I had the money I would get those purple bushings it to use. Those are the best POLYS I've ever seen. All right absolutely love the design. In the fact that they transmitted little-to-no NVH, makes them a real winner. I will have them installed sometime next year.
    Even on the forums I don't think they know about these bushings.
    I already have a beautiful set of Turner Motorsport rear camber arms.
    I have very stiff polyurethane rear trailing arm bushings. I have TMS limiters put in, so I'm just going to install a set of stock OEM LEMFORDER RTABs. That setup is supposed to work quite well with the TMS limiters that are already installed.
    I have 6 piston and 4 piston Brembo Gran Turismo brakes with Brembo floating rotors on all four corners.
    I have titanium brake shields in front for the pads.
    I have a set of racing pads by Cobalt Friction and I set of racing pads by Endless.
    I did not like Poly on my front control arm bushings. FCABs.
    I went back to stock LEMFORDERS.
    The best way to add extra Caster is to have front camber plates that also adjust caster.
    Adding full Caster is one of the best things I have ever done for the handling on my car.

    There is a couple of tricks to prolong the can-life of your POR15, Rust Bullet etc... Replace the air inside the can with either propan gas from a small torch or argon from your welder before you close the lid. Clan the lid with tinner first so it opens easily next time. You can also mix in some thinner before you close the lid. It wont dry up for a very long time. Awesome build guys! Cheers!

    Big lesson to be learned here. Repairs, tires, and brake upgrades BEFORE adding power. So many people add power and never think about stopping, grip, chassis fatigue. Really enjoying this build so far. Makes me want to start another build myself!

  • @BastianKH

    I have one very important information for you. Never use a hard, non flexible bushing in the rear trailing arm. The rear trailing arm wants to make a 3D-movement while travelling up and down, cause it's also changing the camber while moving up and down. A non flexible bushing wants to prevent it from doing this. So the bushing is shifting the force to the mounting bracket and that braces it against the chassis (hope you understand what I mena, I'm German). It can tear out of the chassis through that. There are many cases of this failure on E36s and E46s which are used on the track and had these stiff bushings. Use unibal bushings or stiffer ones out of rubber.
    Keep on the good work!

    • @Gigges85
      @Gigges85 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wanted to write this also! You should never use poly on the E36/E46 RTAs. Use Uniball or rubber, but never poly.

    I learned a trick for POR15 from an internet hot rod guy: Punch two small holes on opposite sides of the lid, and screw in some deck screws to seal it shut. When you need to paint, remove the screws, pour as much as you need into another container and then screw your screws back into the lid. The POR15 will harden around the screws and seal them shut.

  • @fiercenet
    @fiercenet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best bet with POR is to put it in a glass container like a small jelly jar or glass baby food containers, the more you minimize the air in the container the slower it will cure... you are better off filling it to the very top and tossing the rest than putting it in a larger container with empty space. (obviously taller thinner containers minimize the air exposure and a flat Tupperware is probably the worth possible choice) Store it in a fridge and it will slow down the curing as well. I've also heard using two screws in the original can to make a pour hole and and air hole, and then using canned duster to displace the air before you reinstall the screws close it off but i have not verified this method.

    I'm going to toss my "internet opinion" in here. I like to use anti-seize on parts like the c-clip and the driveshaft splines. Even in a dry place like Las Vegas, it helps if you ever want to take those parts apart at some point. In a place like Canada and salt road areas, I can't imagine not using anti-seize on parts like that.

    • @chrisr4815

    • @damienfokkema6963
      @damienfokkema6963 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but the standard silver antiseize sometimes makes it worse as over time the oil comes out of the solid and then it doesn't end well. I use the copper based stuff as I'm pretty sure you can use it with steel bolts into alloys without it rusting.

    • @deplorabledave1048
      @deplorabledave1048 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everything new and refreshed but those axle boots look crummy as hell. Hopefully they don't fail.

      RivalBro OE axles are known to be the best and rarely fail. Aftermarket units on the other hand are known for their issues. Didnt want to spend $800/each just to make them look pretty.

    That metal treatment is NOT designed as a final coat. Not all. It MUST be top coated. It comes in a KIT usually with a top coat included.
    Redish in England uses it. I watched a separate video on how to best use that brand of metal prep.

    I went to the SuperPro Website you have linked but I couldnt see where to order their parts from, as I am in Canada too. Any info regarding where I could purchase their bushings would be great.
