Lots of good info. Thank you. I have a 71 SL70 with worn down shift forks.. I went to a Porsche racing facility were my freind works and they welded material onto the shift forks and I jigged them up in my mill and put a new surface on them. Worked perfectly. Lack of oil or disty oil takes a toll on these forks.
Great video, thanks! So I am missing second gear (always)...N,1,3 seem decent. II'll get some proper oil for it JIC. But if you were the betting type would you say the fork to shift star @ 6:15 or deeper in? All original bike w/1200 miles on it. Thanks so much!
Bro thank you for this video. I have completely tore down my engine and I am now having shifting problems. I’ll be tearing back into it again soon. It feels like the arm with the spring on it is not catching. I don’t have any slippage from the clutch pack it’s just really hard to get it to shift after the engine is warmed up. Shifts just fine with a cold engine.🤷🏻
Anyone have a video on a Honda C50 engine if it won’t go in to third gear? It runs well, and will go in to first and second but not third……. I’m super stuck on this
If the Shift forks are worn that would cause the transmission to pop out of gear, slip and grind? Clutch cover side. Everything looks good works nothing is bent or broken. Shift through gears engine off rotating the tire. Replaced Clutch and still does the same thing. What do you think? Shift forks. Is that a big job? Do I have to remove the engine to do that job?
I see some manuals show thrust washer on transmission main shaft however the SL70 manuals do not show them. I do not want to reassemble my SL engine until i have more information... I do not have a washer that fits that shaft. Thank for any help you can provide.
Quick question: My trans shifts good but when I push down on the shifter for upshifting or lift up for downshifting There is a "bearing " type of noise. Once I let off the shifter the noise goes away. I only hear the noise if I am pressing or lifting on the shifter. Any Ideas? Thanks for your time.
My crf50 rear tire moves on its own when put in gear and it’s like someone is turning the throttle. Carb is clean and adjusted, oil is new, chain is adjusted, clutch plates were removed and reoiled , throttle cable is fine and the rear tire still spins fast when putting it in gear on a stand. I’ve owned many of these and that’s not supposed to happen. Any ideas?
any suggestions on what may cause rear wheel lock up when downshifting? every time when i downshift, the rear wheels locks up just long enough to make the tire slip ( as when pressing the rear brake hard enough). I have read many different things, i adjusted the clutch already but this does not make a difference....
I think what you aredescribing is common due to the constant mesh design of these transmissions and then the engine speed/downshift you are doing. If you slow way down and then downshift it will probably smooth out the shock you are feeling to the output drive
@@VintageHondaMinis I don't know. I really almost have to go as low as letting it run on idle to be able to have a "smooth" downshift. I'm used to driving a semi. I have an other dax with a st50 honda engine at that shifts so much better... i'm having this issue on a lifan (china) engine, and i bought as new ( second hand but almost not even run in) I will definitely try some more adjusting the clutch, but that just doesn't seem to do enough. Very strange 😅 it is not a shock in fact, it really locks up the wheel for a brief moment, you hear the tire squeeck for a short second
@@timlepez4958: You may carefully inspect the inner and outer rings in the clutch, - pos (4) and (18) on the scematics, - they are there to prevent that rear wheel issue !
Hard to say what is causing it. Could be a bad gear or shift forks worn or something simple on cluth side. Going to have to pull clutch cover and look around and spin transmisison to identify clicking culprit
Thanks for the information. I have a question if you don't mind. I have a 72 CT70h , 4 speed . Have shifting problem when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. The transmission, Locks up . I have to shut it down rock the bike back and rock it back and forth to free it and get it back into gear. When not running it seems to shift through the gears but when i drive it it locks up everytime between 2nd going into 3rd . work that i've done to it is replace the clutch which didn't help , split the case and found one of the forks with a lot wear . I replaced ,them both along with the shifting pins . Any ideas would be help ful. thanks..
Hi - I would start with opening back up the right side of engine - clutch cover/clutch assembly/primary gear removal and then revisit the shifting procedure. Leave rear wheel raised off ground so you can use it and the chain to spin output shaft and shift thru gears effectively. If nothing sticks out to you as a culprit in that general area of accessibility... then you will need to reinspect the whole transmissoin install for missing shims, shiftdog wear, see if your new shift forks show some uneven wear on pads already indicating more sever parts issue?
Yes - Here is an ATC70 clutch service video series (2 videos), but this is a good video for any 3/4 speed semi auto engines - th-cam.com/video/ngyh9BlIhag/w-d-xo.html

Thanks a million. Put a different engine in the z50r and I couldn't even push start the thing. The engine wasn't even turning over.

No thrust washer is on the 4 speed primary shaft. Only on 3 speed
