According to the U.S. Constitution, Treason (which is the ONLY crime fully defined within the document) is providing aid or comfort to an enemy that we are fighting during a time of war. And even when President Johnson called Nixon to confront him on this, Johnson knew Nixon was obviously lying when Nixon said that he wasn't preventing Johnson's new peace talks from happening, but Johnson couldn't do anything about it. So yeah, Richard Nixon committed an actual act of treason but the public didn't know about this potentially damaging piece of evidence that could hurt him as President and the United States when they had voted for him in 1968, and it's thanks to this action by Nixon that the Vietnam War lasted an additional 5 years and costs thousands more American lives.

I absolutely hate it. 1) Not every scandal is on par with Watergate. 2) It was called Watergate because of it's location, not because it had something to deal with water.
