Hi everyone! :) I did an update to this video if any of you are interested in knowing some of my thoughts on the shift to online learning: th-cam.com/video/PEvDDVfSqsI/w-d-xo.html
Me: this is the only thing I’m good at and the only thing that brings me joy My Asian parents: creative writing??? you get paid for that??? anyone can write tho???
@@krispi1481 εγώ δουλεύω και παράλληλα πληρώνω μαθήματα. Τους έχω πει ότι σπουδάζω κάτι άσχετο. Αλλά σκέφτομαι πολύ σοβαρά μια μέρα απλώς να φύγω και να σπουδάσω εξωτερικό αυτό που θέλω. Τι θα κάνουν; Θα έρθουν μαζί;
I'm currently 21, went to college for a year and got financially kicked in the butt so a year later here I am regrouping trying to figure out if going to college and majoring in Creative Writing will be worth it. Your video has been very helpful and insight despite the whole college thing (not many people make GOOD, informative videos), what's also a plus for me is that you're diverse. Thanks for the informative, real video ❤.
You're too sweet! I'm so sorry it's taken me a year to reply--cause goodness, what a year 2020 was. :) I'm glad that this helped you! Best of luck on all your endeavors!
I did my undergrad in Psychology too before doing my MFA (already graduated from), looking back i have both fond memories and regrets but I am glad I pursued it.
This really helps me a lot😊 I'm still in high school, yet I'm planning to take Creative Writing as a college course or anything related in Literature as I go to college. Though, I still have doubts for many are saying that you can learn it by just researching in the internet. But, I still want to pursue that course when I go to college. Thank you for this video😊❤️
Hi! I think the merit of an MFA really comes from the openness to critique by experts and your peers who are equally as serious about literature and creative writing. You can use the internet as a supplement or tool but I dont think it can necessarily substitute for everything an MFA has to offer.
i knew this girl from grad school and i must say she's as brilliant irl as she is in this video. im so glad she does vlog like this. always admired from afar. 💖
Great video! I'm getting ready to begin the MFA creative writing application process and am looking for some motivation and tips. Also, love the Lydia Davis mention
Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "jobs you can get with a creative writing degree" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Jeyeyton Riyria Process - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy got amazing success with it.
Jade Beth J Hey! I actually didn’t apply. So many things, good things came up. I’m still deciding on when would be a good time. Did you apply last year?
I'm so sorry for replying to this mega-late! I don't know of any low-residency grad programs in the Philippines, but there are some learning workshops that offer around a month of schooling, with a certification afterward. I hope this helped! :) Best of luck with everything!
Do you think a non-native English speaker has ever got a shot in this field? I mean, I do write in English, but since I've learned it as a foreign language, I can't help constantly doubting myself😥
It`s absolutely possible! One of the most famous writers from "the Canon" is Joseph Conrad, and he didn`t become fluent in English until he was in his 20s.
@@lindsaymorrison7519 Thanks for your reply. Yeah I know about Conrad;but the thing is that for the time being I don't have the opportunity to communicate with many native speakers or any other English writers (at least until I can enter a university in an English speaking country to study creative writing;) And that is why I can't compare myself to great writers like Conrad too seriously. Not having even one permanent reader to comment on my work is what truely worries me and makes me wonder if am I even talented enough.
Hey, you went to De La Salle University for MFA? I literally am thinking to flying down to the Philippines for an MFA and De La Salle looks like a good option. Tell me more about about how the program goes( how many terms in total, roughly how many classes per week and how does this program stand in comparison to what Diliman University offers
Hi Can you detail some of the options in terms of world’s most prestigious courses/universities that aspiring writers can consider? US/UK/Europe or elsewhere?
Great discussion Wina..!! I am definitely not the age of your average viewer - I am nearing retirement age. You are definitely fortunate that you are talented and skilled enough for that scholarship.
Hahahhaha you're young at heart! :) Thank you. I know I'm lucky deffo but to be honest the university is pretty generous with grants and things for MFA. :D
If you can practice, and do something like the arts without a college degree just start practicing your craft. Don't waste thousands of dollars on a degree you don't really need.
What if you just need any Bachelor's so you can be a teacher, and so it might as well be in something where you'll get constructive feedback on your passion projects? (I am genuinely asking your opinion; I've never gone for a Bachelor's yet). What if the other majors just seem really irrelevant to anything that gives you meaning.
Hey Wina, nice knowing you. I am '86 born. After doing engineering, MBA and working at highly paid corporate, I left a highly paid job to pursue writing career. I need to do MA, or MLitt, or MSt in Creative Writing in UK preferably. Can you help me out please. I followed you on Twitter, and dropped a message here. Please reply when you read. TIA.
Hi Wina, does DLSU offer online learning for MFA CW? I heard they do but couldn't really confirm from the info in their website. I am currently based in Hanoi and I'm thinking of enrolling this year. Any leads please? Salamat sa pagsagot 😊🙏🙏 Happy New Year! 🍾

I absolutely agree!
You're very smart and eloquent, I'm impressed 👏

I’m currently looking into schools for an MFA in Creative Writing. 💕

You’re welcome!
Can you do a creative masters PhD if your undergrad and masters studies is in a completely different field?
Nope. Your Masters has to be related to the PhD field you’re studying but you can take a Masters that’s unrelated to your undergrad.
I LOVE YOU
