    Nice tag Mazzy - Great three from CCR. Amazingly Fairport Convention also put out the three great albums fronted by Sandy Denny in 1969 (What we did on our Holidays, Unhalfbricking and Liege and Lief). Must have been something in the water that year. Cheers Dale

    I learn a ton from you Mazzy. Thanks for a great year of higher learning. I just wanted to pass something on to you that I saw on PBC just recently. The story of Buffy Saint Marie. I was surprised and enjoyed it so much. Her story is tremendous and she wrote some great songs that so many love still. Let me know if you know her story. Love to you and good health in 2023!!

    Great vid. The Great Destroyer is the album that got me into Low. So good that Robert Plant, no less, covered two songs off it, Silver Rider and Monkey, on his 2010 album Band of Joy. They were a band that kept evolving. Their last two albums, Double Negative and Hey What, are very different from their earlier stuff and well worth checking out. Quite challenging with lots of distortion, but still their trademark harmonies and Mimi's achingly beautiful voice always telling you that you are listening to Low

    Very cool,…F.Y.I. Brits use the term hat trick for what is most likely referred to as a triple play in the US. Hat trick is used a lot in football (soccer) when a player has scored three goals in the same game. So basically any multiple of three is a hat trick. Don’t worry, as a Brit who has been living in the US for several years I still get lost in translation sometimes 😂

    Thanks for mentioning Ian Tyson. Always loved "Someday Soon", first heard sung by Judy Collins. Aoxomoxoa was the first Dead record I bought, when I was a sophomore or junior in high school. Oddly, I did not immediately connect with "What's become of the Baby" which takes up most of one side. St. Stephen and China Cat Sunflower I liked right off the bat. Some of the quieter numbers didn't make much impact, sounding a little anemic. In an interview with Rolling Stone Garcia told people to "buy the remixed" edition of the album, which I never got around to. Your thoughts on "What's Become of the Baby"?

    Berlin is a record like no other. I feel like I've been physically attacked after listening to it.
    Also, a slightly left field take on the 3 album run.

    Stereolab - Refractions in the Plastic Pulse - 15 minutes of near genius.

    I've personally never seen anyone feature Luluc (not that it's never been done). In the latter part of 2018 into 2019, Sculptor became my "last record of the night" spin whenever I was spending time in a dedicated listening session. For some reason, I've never checked out their other releases...something now on my music "to-do" list for 2023 (thx!). Since then, my end of night go-to record became Bonny Light Horseman (the self-titled), and then more recently Anaïs Mitchell's (also from BLH) self-titled record.

    The Birdsong Project is proof the lockdowns were a terrible idea. Didn't Elvis Costello write a song about your encounter. I've locked eyes with Johnny Rotten. I'm sure that was a bit more intense. Rastaman Vibration is my favorite. I need the three 80's King Crimson albums. Ian and Sylvia may be the best-looking couple in music. The Porcupine Tree album cover is certainly disappointing. I love Berlin when it came out. I always preferred it over Transformer.

  • @cultvult
    @cultvult ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Mazzy, I need your opinion. I just bought a very cool first pressing of We’re only in it for the money, and discovered it has one skip. I’ve done everything I can to clean it, short of ultrasonic cleaning, which I’ll be looking for. It’s not an infinite skip, and it’s kinda at the beginning of Discorporate where Zappa’s announcing the title, so it’s not huge, but it’s a skip. Should I return it for credit? What would you do in my position? I really love this version(there’s a couple label variations, and no grooves between songs, so it’s seamless, as it should be). Do you have albums you love that have one skip but you’ve kept? Just thought I’d ask your thoughts on the matter. Thanks. Happy new year to you and yours!

    • @mazzysmusic
      @mazzysmusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it depends on the record and if I can’t get a replacement. I’d the skip sticks or just a few tics and the music doesn’t stop. I’m pretty forgiving because vinyl is rarely perfect
      Sorry I don’t have a better response 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @cultvult
      @cultvult ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mazzysmusic yea, it’s just while Zappa’s talking, and it moves on. I’m hedging towards keeping it and trying to get it ultrasonically cleaned or trying the tooth pick trick. It’s pretty cool, and not easy to replace. It’s a first press Only in it for the money without any bands between tracks, so it’s seamless on each side, the way the album should be. Doesn’t seem easy to replace in good shape with insert for a good price. So I might just do my best to fix it. It was $40. Not too bad. Thanks Mazzy.

They say the sound track was from Cat Stevens. I just found out I am in it. In the water depravation tanks. Would the music be like torture sounds? They crossed that movie with 'The Miracle Worker" in 62''. Maybe that explains all the medical tyranny that's floating around everywhere now. From Camarrio Hospital where they filmed The Miracle Worker to The Deep End.
