Thanks, Steve. I got that Nirvana in a pile of singles at the charity shop round the corner. That manager seemed to magnetically attract vinyl donations. Sadly, she's long gone. 'Pour Down Like Silver' is also an excellent album by Richard & Lind Thompson.
Great picks Bruce! You showed a few of my favourites Velvets & Spirit and a few that I’d like to get a hold of… Magazine and Ann Peebles. Looking forward to seeing more video! Cheers, Jack
I just discovered your channel and subbed you up good job on this years vinyl tag, Devo, "Are We Not Men" Classic, cool group of records, I mainly talk rock vinyl on my channel and post a few concert clips. Thanks again for sharing the great music info I hope you have a great 2024!
Thanks, Mike. Why I took so long to purchase that Devo album, I'll never understand. I remember it staring at me in the record racks when it came out. Funny old life...
HI Bruce - great eclectic music as ever - I really must check out some of the piano trio work by Toshiko , glad to see you getting mentions in other folks lists and look forward to more vinyl and maybe trips? in 2024. Best Graham
Happy New Year. New to your channel but not new to the vinyl tag. I actually filmed one too. Great responses…I love the first album you showed. Can’t go wrong with the Harvest label. Jethro Tull! Yes! I have a reissue that sounds great. Love the pop up! Spirit! Very cool band…Zeppelin thought so too. Lol. Take care😊😊
Thanks, Chris. That Kevin Ayers is very tricky to find- especially near mint. I was aware of the Spirit/Led Zeppelin wrangle. Interestingly, 'We Used to Know' on 'Stand Up' uses the same chord sequence as 'Hotel California'!
Happy New year Bruce! 🎉 Just love the Tull album cover, often damaged but looks as if you’ve managed to pick up a copy that’s in excellent condition. I think you maybe the only person who’s picked the 1780’s! 😁 As you know Bruce, I picked Magazine as well, brilliant band. They did make a fifth in 2011, but you may not consider that a true Magazine album. I’m particularly a big fan of John McGeoch. I enjoyed your response to the tag. Mike
Thanks, Mike. Yes, the pop-up figures are remarkably unscathed on that copy of 'Stand Up'. As a frustrated historian, any era that avoids the Victorians is preferable! I never saw Magazine unfortunately but did see McGeoch with Siouxsie & the Banshees in 1981 in Brighton. Wonderful live band.
Very enjoyable vinyl tag….i have the Jethro Tull album which did have the flip up in the middle….unfortunately my two year old son pulled it out and bagged it for himself 🤣🤣
I have been a long time subscriber to Bruno’s channel, great to hear the call out for him. I am new to your channel but loved your responses, very different from everyone else. French, wouldn’t work for me, I totally macaque their album. I am a huge fan of VU but I also struggled with Nico’s voice. The Devo album I bought as a teenager, still sounds fresh. Great video , I look forward to your next
Hi Bruce. I posted a comment a couple of days ago. It's disappeared. I can't recall everything I said before, so I'll keep it brief ... I didn't know that Charlie Parker was a dab hand in the kitchen ... Some cool rock 'n' roll singles ... The Phil Ochs album was a spoof of an Elvis album sleeve saying '50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong'.
Thanks. I think I read about Charlie Parker being a good chef in the Ted Gioia jazz book. I was aware Phil Ochs modelled his comeback on 'the king'. He even tried to enlist Colonel Sanders (of KFC fame) as his manager. Ludicrous I know, but poor Phil was very unwell by that time...
Hi Bruce, I enjoyed your music decade answer. With a time machine you could go back and make field recordings like the those early Delta Blues recordings. RE the Velvet Underground. I've always struggled with The Velvet Underground, at least their first album anyway. Do you think I would enjoy their later albums or will I find them to be more of the same? Ha, I have very few records from the 90s too. Great response video Bruce. Happy New Year.
Hey, John. Yes, I like to think outside the box, as it were. I used to enjoy that shaggy dog story: 'The Gift', which John Cale tells on the second VU album. They were an important band for their aesthetic or perhaps it's a case of they're better than they sound...? All the best in 2024!
HNY Bruce. Some great LPs there. Agree about Jethro tull. Find most things by them mildly irritating. Stand up their best. Love that spirit debut. I’ve had that Richard Thompson Lp in my collection for years and years and not sure I ever played it!! Shameful. Cheers, Chris
Thanks, Chris. I also have the first Jethro Tull LP, which sounds a bit like the Bluesbreakers with flute. Trying to emulate the great Roland Kirk was never going to go far IMHO. Do listen to that Richard & Linda Thompson album. His guitar work is excellent. Have a great 20024!
Awesome Devo record, one of my favorite albums ever. I have an OG US press with the yellow cover and and 78 picture disc with the UK. I started listening to yellow magic orchestra this year and was blown away, ryuchi sakimoto was also my pick for someone who passed in 2023. France wouldn’t be my pick but I do love all the yé-yé stuff
I have the 'Be Stiff' Devo single with a similar cover to the US LP. Great 45! I saw a lot of interesting records last summer in Japan but was very unsure of the artists.🤔 Thanks for watching.
@@chris.e-t I have seen people pick France, Germany, Canada and Australia. I love music from all those countries and understand why someone would pick them. I think the shear volume and influence of bands from England and the US is too much to ignore. I would argue that Los Angeles, New York and London on their own are comparable to those countries.
Some great records on there and very good to see a fellow lover of a good shirt
Thanks, Martin. I used to wear Liberty shirts back when I could afford such luxuries. Now I won't tell you where I source them.🤣
A great tag Bruce. Admittedly I don't know a lot of the records you showed but I learn. Happy New Year.
Thanks Rob. I think I may need a new camera as those record labels are way out of focus!Have a great 2024!
Hi Bruce, great response to the tag. Loved it when you shown Nirvana and Richard and Linda Thompson.

Thanks, Jack. I'm ashamed to say I had a wonderful collection of Magazine 45s that I sold for a handful of beans, as it were, in my callow youth.

Cheers, Graham. Toshiko did an album (super rare on first pressing) called 'Lullabies for You'. It literally makes me become a child again. Adorable.❣

Stand Up is the last Jethro Tull that I need. I do love their first four albums. Seven nice 7”s.
France?
Thanks for watching, Richie. Yeah, the pop-up 'Stand Up' sleeve brings out the child in me. 😊
Very enjoyable vinyl tag….i have the Jethro Tull album which did have the flip up in the middle….unfortunately my two year old son pulled it out and bagged it for himself 🤣🤣
Thanks. Yes, little paws can do damage. My daughter (when a toddler) got hold of my glasses. Nasty!

Thanks, Steve. Not sure what 'macaque' is...? I've long been an outlier in my music tastes. A devoted contrarian, if you will.

I don’t think the French would even choose France.
@@vinylrichie007 ah ah right, I'm French and I chose the UK ! But some have nevertheless chosen France in the French vinyl community 😉
