Truly appreciate it…… BTW have you ever modded a 2WD Granite Voltage? Asking for a friend lol😂 ( never mind you did lol😅 )
I put a brushless 3660 1950kv motor in mine with a QUICRUN WP 8BL150 G2 on 6S. I had a 5200kv motor in it with a cheaper brushless ESC on 3s at first but it was cogging at take off and felt wrong... It was way fast still, but wrong. With the 1950kv motor nothing heats up and it has long runs times without cogging. All on stock gearing and tires. It is a beast, and my favorite rc to play with already. Nice video, I was inspired!
I think the design of the chassis actually helped the brushed motor overheat causing the failure you saw as it surrounds the motor with plastic. I’m not sure how far anything stuck out where the fan section is but keeping that heat, trapped all the way down the body. Of the motor certainly allowed them to get hot
When I get mine I'm not one to upgrade stuff, and I plan on getting the red. (To each their own) I do like the wheels you put on -- just enough different shade to make them pop! And being two wheel drive, I might do what I've seen on RC SPARKS with some of his.. get skis on front and those paddle tires on the rear for snow.
Yeah the color of the wheels were definitely a happy accident. Those were the most appropriate ones for the build and just happened to be the right color :-)
I'd love to see more fun with the Fury. As it is aimed at beginners (like me), I really like how you showed budget friendly upgrades. Would upgrading the suspension have made it easier to control with the larger tires? The shocks seem a little soft. We just got our Fury running the included 3300 NiMH. Starting with basically nothing, it is hard to figure out where to put resources next. It is an issue any beginner faces. I do not have enough experience to know what the possibilities even are. That means a general lack of imagination when it comes to deciding where to take it. Videos like yours provide people like me a great deal of inspiration, so thank you for sharing!
Unless you really really specifically like the Fury my recommendation would be to not put any money into it and save up to buy something better. By the time you put a brushless system in this and a few other things to support that system you're going to end up being close to the price of getting a four-wheel drive brushless truck anyway and two-wheel drive is pretty limiting in the long run.
@Usul Yeah I mean if you really love the platform it might be worth upgrading but since you're new to the hobby I think you're much better off just getting another car so you can broaden your experience.
Those 40mm server fans are the cheapest and pretty much also the best way to keep motors cool. I feel bad for the folks that pay $50-80 for something that cost me less than $10. I highly recommend everyone watch that video.
Yep! If you keep your eyes out you can get them in bulk used on eBay for usually less than five bucks each. I've got a whole bag of them. Probably a lifetime supply.
Great video my friend!! Could you explain how the amps on a ESC works please? I have a 200amp Max 6 thats capable of 8s, Spectrum make a 160amp capable of 8s and so do Hobby wing. Does the amps mean anything? And whats the correlation between amps and lipo cell count??
Yes. Basically the amps is how much energy actually flows through the conductors. The voltage is kind of how much pressure is pushing that energy. Voltage and amperage combine to determine the actual power output. So for instance if you had 10 volts at 100 amps it would be 1,000 Watts which is the actual energy amount. So a 8S 200 amp ESC will have more potential power output than an 8s 160 amp ESC. That being said the actual power that's put to the ground is ultimately determined by the motor (or at least it should be) and how much energy it capable of flowing. Essentially you want the battery to be able to supply as much energy as the ESC wants and then the ESC to be able to supply as much energy as the motor wants and the motor to be the limiting factor.
@@DoRC so the amps are not indicative of the number of Lipo cells you can run? For instance, without reading the full run down on the ESC, a 120amp ESC does not automatically mean it can handle 4s?
@@kylarstern7627 correct. The voltage is the number of cells. So a ESC might be rated for 2 to 4S which would make it compatible with 2 to 4S batteries. Each cell is about 4.2 volts fully charged so a 3S battery would be 12.6 volts fully charged.
QuicRun 555 13T is 3S certified and 4s capable (for 1 pack). Though it's not even a dollar cheaper than brushless. 10:25 I wonder if Arma is going to make spring steel cvds as a replacement option.

I don't think the stock motor would've lasted much longer with a less powerful 3S ESC. I think the power ratings on ESCs are there to give you an idea of how much power they can handle and not necessarily how much power they're capable of. There could be small difference, because higher power ratings might mean lower impedance, but the impedance of ESCs is usually pretty low. I still consider myself new and I don't even have power tools. Lol
I don't think so either though even though the motor should be the deciding factor on power if you have an ESC that isn't powerful enough it can still limit the total usable power. Overall though this motor definitely did not like 3S:)
