I will keep my RGB30 as it is much more pocketable. It has been my cheap go to device for quite a while and I never regretted buying it. I mainly use it for short Pico8 seesions or vertical shmups so ergonomics is not an issue. For extended play sessions I prefer the RG406V, the ROG Ally or the Y700 with G8 controller as everything GC and up needs more screen real estate for my old eyes (50+) Still waiting for a powerful 4:3 ratio device with e.g. a 5.6 inch screen (OLED like the Surface Duos has would be quite nice) or even larger. Would buy that in an instant...
I would have been completely fine with the RGB30 if it weren't for the battery drain issues. It's a lot more comfortable to hold than it look but Powkiddy just can't seem to make anything without at least one defect.
Great review! Mine is set to arrive tomorrow. Is there any way to connect to the internet and play online Pico 8 games or any browser games via the Cube xx?
Also, appreciate you used a personal grade rating on the D-pad. I find that the D-pad on these handhelds can be hit or miss, no consistency in quality, yet. 🍻🤘🏼
I've been on the fence for ages about the RGB30. For a long time, I really wanted to get one, but the weird quality issues always stopped me. Eventually got an RG35XX H to satisfy my small handheld desires, and it's been great. I'm still interested in a 1:1 device, but I'd probably go RG Cube for its additional power and Android. If the RG Cube XX had been released before the H, I would've had no hesitation buying it.
My review of the CubeXX. The sticks are bad. The stock OS is meh. The speakers are okay-ish. The rest of the device is really, really good! For some odd reason, GBC performance wasn't good on stock OS. It felt like GBC was running with frameskip. I replaced the stock OS with MinUI, which I like. I am waiting on Knulli - the alpha version is being tested currently. I also have a RGB30. It was my favorite retro emulation handheld. But it has it issues! The sticks on the RGB30 are bad too. My device has battery drain. The stock OS was okay-ish, but I replaced that with ArkOS, which also reduced the battery drain, but didn't solve it fully. I replaced the stock sticks on the RGB30 with new hall sensing ones that work flawless and without the cardinal snapping. I am also going to do that with the CubeXX. The CubeXX feels waaaaaay more premium than the RGB30, it has way better build quality and is way more comfortable to use. The performance of both is about the same, maybe the RGB30 is a bit faster, has a bit better N64 performance, for example, but not by much. If you want a cheap square screen device, don't buy the RGB30, buy the CubeXX instead!
Even if you like the horizontal handhelds they also have the 40XX if people want a 4 inch 4:3 screen. I think for most people that handheld will be better than the cube. The cube is a cool product but with most games being in 4:3, I think if this is someone’s only handheld, you should stick with that aspect ratio and maybe get something like the cube as a secondary device to play around with.
I'm team vertical to be honest but yeah, the RG Cube is a fantastic handheld that I just played yesterday. This unit is nice but it's not my cherished RG40XXV. I'd still make the argument all day long that the RG35XXSP is the sub $100 GOAT.
Thank you for the video. The major advantage may be MuOS over the RGB30. It won't be my RGB30 killer but should the RGB30 die one day this certainly is a good alternative.
I love my rg35xxh though I do like the floating d pad. Not enough to pick up, but nice. I picked up the rg406v recently so this wouldn't really serve me well.
It's really annoying as the dpads they've been using for ages prior to this are really good. Oh well there will be another device next week, will keep my fingers crossed for that one :)
@@retrohandhelds yeah I’ve been contemplating just getting the alpha build of knulli just so my device doesn’t sit there longer and I was willing to try minui but I know myself and I am going to want those additional systems it can’t support eventually 😭
I regret not getting a RP2S when it was priced around $100USD. Now it's usually around $150USD. If Anbernic made a $100 T610 device, they'd be onto something.
I have this, the 40XXH, and the 35XXH. They are all good choices... however at this sort of price point I think it's worth mentioning the TrimUI Smart Pro. I had to buy a grip for it, but it's still my go-to device for retro emulation.
No, this is not GOAT of 1:1 handhelds, it is another Anbernic ripping off fresh ideas of other handheld creators and this time ripped this off from Powkiddy RGB30.
What do you think? If you have an RGB30 are you buying this to replace it?

S-tier review. If this is your last one on RH then you're leaving on a high note. I wish you the best of luck with your new channel.
I have this little gem and am loving it. I hope custom firmwares are going to be released that allow us to run pico-8 natively.
@@erwinmulder1338 is it possible to play Pico-8 games online via the cube xx?
muOS devs have already shown PICO-8 running natively. It's just a matter of time now!
That time is now
Dope review, hope to get one of these b4 the year is out
Another great review! I am loving mine!
Thanks!

All the XX devices have built-in wifi.
Noob question. Is there a browser on the Cube XX to connect via wifi? @@zeframmann1641

it IS the GOAT under hundo AND is the best brightest screen of the XX line AND is fundamentally better that the OG Cube.

Why is it better that RG Cube? It's just a cheaper version of it.

Great video I love it and never to many give ppl options..😊

Love the white face buttons, nicer than the skittles on og Cube. If it had a touchscreen for DS, I would have already bought it. 🍻
The all white is very clean. Better than the weird cream and bright white colors they used on the 406v.

I think it’s great that there are a lot of form factor options to play to everyone’s preferences or nostalgia.
Is the 40xx screen taller than the trimui smart pro?
Yes it is about 10mm taller due to the aspect ratio differences.
Thank you for the video. The major advantage may be MuOS over the RGB30. It won't be my RGB30 killer but should the RGB30 die one day this certainly is a good alternative.
Yeah if you’re happy with the rgb30 I wouldn’t rush to replace it for sure.

406v has better sticks and screen so if you like the form definitely would pick that. This is better for a more budget option.
I'm returning my Cube XX as couldn't get on with the dpad.
Yeah I think it’s going to be a polarizing aspect, depending on what you play and your preferences.

Got mine the other day but I haven’t set it up cause I’m waiting for custom firmware
The stock firmware is a bit rough. I believe MinUI is available. Knulli is still in a paid alpha. And hopefully MuOS soon.

Didnt powkddy rip off the design from another handheld though 😂
We are once again asking Anbernic to release a clamshell version of the Cube XX.

Unfortunately some people in the Community don't want new H-700 Handheld revisions. 😕
Nah you're wrong. Just get the 35xxH or 40xxH.
