The Brothers Johnson's other two really big hits was their cover of Shuggy Otis' "Strawberry Letter 22" with the guitar part by Lee Ritenour, and "Get The Funk Out My Face". Both are great so try that one next. They also had a hit with the song "I'll Be Good To You" which was produced by Quincy Jones. Give these all a listen.
I hadn't heard that in forever but yeah this was high quality stuff. Everything about it was just so good. And you're right, it had such a clean sound and it was so danceable.
The band broke up in 1982. George Johnson and the late Louis Johnson were brothers, and their cousin Alex Weir was the other guitarist. Alex was/is a well-respected session musician who also appeared on the Talking Heads 1983 album Speaking in Tongues and their 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. Quincy Jones produced this album and this song was co-written by Rod Temperton, who wrote all of Heatwave's hits and many songs for Michael Jackson, including "Thriller" and "Off the Wall".
How right you are, Ace! Stomp was released in 1980 as the disco era was coming to a close. The Brothers Johnson, George, and Louis (RIP) were, in fact, biological brothers. Gotta check out their first hit, "Strawberry Letter 23" from 1977!
I’m 70 but back in the day especially in the 70’s we couldn’t wait till the weekend to go out with friends to the local clubs and dance and boogie and Stomp till the morning light!
Awesome bass here. Their most famous song is "Strawberry Letter #23 -- you gotta check it out bro! Not as funky but such a good melody. Here are a few requests for your next Funky Friday: Billy Preston, "Will It Go Round In Circles?", The Gap Band, "Early in the Morning" but do the extended cut of it; The Dazz Band, "Let it Whip". Lastly, War with their song "Me and Baby Brother". All winners. Great idea to do this!
I hoped you looked these awesome musicians out, especially the bass player, who perfected the thumb technique. The only brothers are the lead singer/guitar and bass. Blast off!
Bursting a string during a show should never end the show. Take a look at BB King. He was in a live show, broke a string on his guitar mid song and not only finished the song but started another all while being handed another string and restringing it to keep playing!
Louis Johnson was an innovator in bass playing- “ slapping” the bass style.

This song and George Benson’s "Give Me The Night" were two of the most crankable radio hits in the summer of 1980. Turn it up!
Thunder Thumbs Johnson on slap bass, Lightnin' Licks Johnson on guitar and vocals and then produced by Quincy Jones? Of course it's epic.
Fantastic response to a brilliant funk track.😊.It's fantastic and gets us all moving.
Louis "Thunder Thumb" Johnson.

Strawberry Letter 23 is also FUNKY.
Lookout Ace.i love it.
Bee Gees? Not! Brothers Johnson are the lead singer and bass player and were protégés of Quincy Jones.
Strawberry letter 23 bro Johnson next song up
Please, give your reaction to "Give me the night" (George Benson), "Cuba" and "Qué será" (Gibson Brothers)
Please let my add their hit "Strawberry Letter 23" to the requests. Thanks and God Bless.
And a couple more in that vain "Vehicle" by The Ides Of March and "Who's That Lady" by The Isley Brothers.
No! it is not a Bee Gee Vibe at all. Black soul funk!
.The James Gang is super funky if you haven’t checked them out yet. Funk #49 as a matter of fact ❤️
