    ABOUT CHICAGO MED
    From Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf, "Chicago Med" is an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city's newest state-of-the-art trauma center and into the lives of the courageous doctors, nurses, and staff who hold it all together, including Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber), Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett), Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) and Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard).
    Together they will confront Chicago's most critical medical cases and challenging ethical dilemmas with courage, compassion and state-of-the-art treatment. Inspired by ripped-from-the-headlines cases, "Chicago Med" will weave cutting-edge medicine with the personal drama that comes with working in such a high-intensity environment.
    Chicago Med is available now on Peacock, the new streaming service from NBCUniversal. Watch thousands of hours of hit movies and shows, plus daily news, sports, and pop culture updates. Stream now on Peacock.

    Saw part 1 when the guy got stuck on the MRI machine. Glad to see he was ok after he got unstuck.

    To be fair, the MRI shutdown would have been a *lot* more dramatic. The liquid helium magnet coolant would have expanded, creating large clouds, strong air currents, potentially diluting the oxygen, possibly giving a few people frostbite, and maybe even condensing some of the air to a liquid. There is no way on Earth that the magnetic field would just suddenly disappear without some extremely drastic signs.
    There are videos of MRI quenches (shutdowns) on TH-cam. In addition to being a last-resort emergency option, it's an essential step in many maintenance processes.

    i would wait for the magnet to quench first, otherwise that scapel might be pulled into the bore there, and there is usually a emergency quench button in the room

      No, Quench buttons are designed specifically to shut them down in seconds should such an emergency happen

      Not really. The magnetism is due to an electric current. Break that connection and there's no current anymore. The stress that causes may not be great for the health of the machine. But it's no different than pulling the plug out of a socket.

      If you go back 2 weeks on the channel there’s a clip of how it happens, “A Man Gets Trapped on an MRI Machine” is the title. It starts off with his wife giving birth, but keep watching past that and you’ll see for yourself the sequence of events that pinned him there.

    • @rohithratnam1744
      @rohithratnam1744 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      basically the guy's wife just had a baby, he then suddenly went into a manic episode, grabbed a pair of knives and started threatening and shouting at people, ran out of the room, and then ran into this room which had a MRI machine still on, and then he got flung into the machine and as you can see the knives went into his neck

    Totally unrealistic. Even in a power failure the magnetism remains (permanent, like a toy magnet) as long as the liquid helium can cool the superconductors. To slowly wind down the magnetism is a day's work for repair techs. MRIs do have an emergency quench button but only used in very dire, immediate life threatning situations. Press it and the helium is exhausted outdoors, accompanied by very loud noise, and escape of gases into the room, which can cause asphyxiation and severe frostbite and tissue damage. The MRI magnet is destroyed with $1M of damage and out of service for a month.

      There are alternative materials for scalpel blades and needles if you know you are going to working with magnetic imaging for guidance during surgical procedures so it wouldn't be a stretch to have access to them here.
