Season 8 Episode 10 - A Little Change Might DoYou Some Good.
That was so sad and unfortunately it happens in real life . Parents/ grandparents care for someone with special needs there comes a time when they can't and that young person has no understanding of what happened. I worked with children/ young adults with special needs it is heartbreaking.
this is honestly one of the saddest episodes ever.
...
Yeah😢
True
“if I can’t be there for him, who will?”
My son is autistic and I have this thought everyday.
I've seen a comment here saying something interesting about this. I don't know how doable it is regarding of money (I live in France where you have decent solutions even without money) but it gives light on the subject. It was about entrusting progressively your relative (your son in your case) to someone else (an organization, a foster family...) with you still being there, increasing the time little by little. There are people out there able to give their best for others' people children. The sooner you take care of this matter, the better. Sure, autistic children can make bad encounters but they also can meet people who will brighten them up. I hope you find the help you need and I wish you the best.
thats why therapy is needed so people with development issues can adjust, coddling is nocive even for people without any problem
I hope your son isn't the burden type
@@f4shionlover trolling won't make you happy
@creuvette29 I would try to "troll" to be happy🤡 Being stupid won't make you happy, but it seems like you have no choice
This is the the first episode that's ever made me cry 😢 could literally feel the grandma's pain & Alexander's despair ..
Not to me, because I surpassed it.
@@Tribozomhow edgy
Noooo because I too have autism and I have let go of my past.
The actor playing Alexander did an excellent job at portraying how Autism looks for some on the spectrum. I wonder if the actor is Autistic himself or has family on the spectrum.
I'd be so curious to know as wellll. I am not on the spec, but on the ADHD spec. I find it so amazing that neurodivergent ppl get some space in shows
Albert Rutecki, the actor who played Alexander, is autistic.
I feel the opposite.
@@rogerroo Can you say why?
As someone on the autism spectrum, he 100% did a great job portraying autism for some people on the spectrum. I know many autistic people who are very similar to how his character acts. It’s rare to find people who can portray autism without making it like stereotypical autism, but he did a great job at it.
omg... ... i think this is the first clip i've seen when Dr Charles looks that deeply affected by something to that extent. i saw him mad, i saw him looking so very sympathetic and worried for patients... but in this one... he looked like he was crying. he was so quiet... even a bit closed off. like he had to hold his sorrow inside. probably because in his role, he has to be the emotional strong and stable person. he's so so so good at his job.
It's hard enough to lose the only Family you have left, Let's even harder if you have artism or related abilities.
A relative of mine with additional needs recently went into a specialised home. They're absolutely thriving, and seem to be living their best possible life, and thank god the transition was relatively simple. But boy was it tough on everyone else. The fear that someone else might not know them as well as you, might not recognise signs, might inadvertantly (or deliberately) mistreat them, and while they're so incredibly vulnerable too... Urgh, it's just the worst. And this episode did such a good job of portraying that fear and concern.
Thank you for this comment, I'm so glad it worked for your relative
This is just a 10 minute clip from a 40 something minute long episode and I already am tearing up.
Hi
@@josie_mcclHi
This is so sad how the grandma feels 😢
She tried to kill her grandson...
@@Ghostofthegallow Like putting a lame horse out of it's "misery"
@@JA268 Tough love, put it shortly.
as someone who has autism themself, i feel for Alexander regardless of him just being a character for a show, like some people would say.
Coming from someone also with autism, this character isn’t you. You wouldn’t be typing this comment if you were as severe as him so while feeling for him plays part acting like you know that pain it crazy.
@@skylarmarshall1078 show me the exact place where i said the words you claim that I said. show me EXACTLY where I said "I know how he feels/I know this pain" etc
cause I don't think those are the words I said, despite your belief
@@pokefan213I understood what you said and I'm also autistic and feel for him
@@skylarmarshall1078I also have autism and understood what they meant, read the comment a few times before writing a nasty comment alright?
Wow, uhh this whole comment section is autistic
I understand the kid 100%. As someone who was raised by their grandparents and who has borderline autism, I have a very hard time dictating how far is TOO far. When you're in that situation it can be hard to understand what you're doing.
You KNOW it’s serious when Dr. Charles adjusts his glasses with his right index finger.
Alexander's bravery is admirable!
Finding alternative care, making plans ahead is so important, but options for families in that position are limited -even more so when finances are a barrier to care. What a horrible situation
this episode is so sad i dont think i could be in that position to be honest
I understand that she may have tried group homes or other places to help get care for her grandson, but that still doesn't excuse her actions. There's something to be said for easing someone into a change in routine. From my understanding (and please correct me if I'm wrong): individuals on the spectrum feel more secure in situations when they have a very specific and structured daily routine. From the way it was framed, I kind of doubt that the grandmother tried to ease her grandson into a change of routine and I think easing him into a new routine with a guardian would be good. Doing things like having the guardian visit while the grandmother is still around in order to have him get familiar with the guardian would probably go a long way. The visits could start off short and then increase in length over time, but it would allow the grandson to get accustomed to having a new person around aside from his grandmother.
People on the Spectrum do prefer Routines and don't deal well with deviations from the ones they establish, so yes you are correct on that.
It's also what's familiar and not dealing with change very well. Also being very attached to someone it's hard to be away from them
He presents tsa , and the big problem with= anxiety with violence , not understanding so a big male is a menace ..and who pay in a country like us . after her death , he will be on psychiatrich ward , on heavy chemistry , abused too.
It depends on the severity of autism by generally speaking yes you are correct I'm high functioning autism I like routine but those of us who are high functioning can also deviate from a strict routine strictly speaking for myself change is somewhat difficult for me but I can adapt more easily than others but it really depends on a lot of factors
I mean, she did technically commit a crime (attempted murder)…
Attempted end of suffering of someone else should not be a crime.
@@uniformitydubliner9691 but he wasnt suffering like he will not be able to live. he was healthy. so it is attempted murder.
@@littelly considering the circumstances I doubt the court would give jail time. It could even fall on not guilty for reason of insanity, because the prosecution likely will be unable to prove ill will, since they know grandma loves him above anything else and she truly believed it was the best choice, which in itself can be insanity.
@@ClaudioProductionsX Attempted murder is still attempted murder, no matter if she thought it was the best option considering the circumstances.
But due to the stage that her illness was at, you're right, she would've most likely avoided prison time.
What she did was very wrong but the courts will probably give some leniency to her case due to her circumstances. She was practically forced to make the decision for the sake of Alexander. I feel bad for cause they both are hurting
It's an un winnable situation
My heart hurts so much. There is help out there in real life, it’s there if you keep looking.
I am not gonna lie, I am a female with autism. BUT WHY, WHY ARE ALL GUYS WITH AUTISM SO GIANT? They grow to be like 6-7 ft at this point 💀💀
Yeah, I likely have a touch of it and I'am more than half a head taller than my father. The autism class had some really tall or very short. No middle ground.
"common alexander, what do you say?" ads hits
Can we get an Oscar for the actor for Alexander??
This hits so hard.
My fiancé has a diagnosis I don't want to go into and when we met the only person in his life was one of his grandparents. That person is still alive but pushing over 90. My fiancé lived with them their whole life but they asked him to move to a care facility because they were getting too old.
He survives on his own but is very bad with some things in life, so they still help a lot.
I have realized that I will have to replace them very shortly, but we do not live even in the same country so I can't care for him the same way. We meet for a month or two at the time, a couple of times a year and neither of us can move to join the other.
It's a forever long distance relationship, and I am very worried about what will happen.
And how soon...
This is why big families stay together, help each other. Such isolated families break up and have to suffer so much. Privacy word has taken wrong turns in such occassions.
I really wish she had reached out to an autism support group and workers before this stage
Depending on what time period he grew up in (assumedly the 90’s) there might not have been many resources available.
I actually started crying
I like how the patients always use these fancy words like metastatized instead of simply spread to and other stuff..
Well thats probably what her doctor told her
Wouldn't Grandma get arrested?
There's little point. She's stage 4 cancer with a broken hip. Realistically she's not leaving hospital.
@@sianedwards7493only if she gets out of the hospital. And with what she has, she won’t.
@@Linds-oz1ozI think even if she could leave the hospital no one would put her in jail. It's an unthinkable situation.
She should have been arrested for attempted murder regardless of her circumstance. I'm saying this as both a social worker and a disabled person. Caregiver burnout is very real, but it does not justify these actions.
Arresting somebody who is already dying doesn't make much sense... But it was attempted murder, regardless of the circumstances, I agree.
@@ClaudiaMayer-hg2tythe rules still apply even if your dying
@@Ghostofthegallow Sure. But arresting a dying person makes no sense because the arrest is supposed to be a punishment. Well... how much will prison be a punishment for a person already dying?
@@ClaudiaMayer-hg2ty once again. The rules still apply regardless of circumstances. Unless you need to be put in a ventilator. If you try to kill someone YOU GO TO PRISON. Spend the rest of your life behind bars like the rest of us if we commit attempted murder
@@GhostofthegallowShe would probably pass on long before the trial is over anyway. Wouldn't even get a conviction let alone a sentencing. Waste of taxpayers money!
How is she not tried for attempted murder
it brought me to legit tears
As some one who has a family member on the spectrum and has a possible chance on being on the spectrum, I definitely see that Alexander is somewhere on the spectrum. The blowout and what not is a big sign and having nervous breakdowns without his grandma. What sucks is the actor most likely doesn’t have autism.
The actor is actually autistic! I recognise him from other shows where he's played autistic characters too. It makes me really glad to see that finally actors with autism are playing autistic characters in more and more shows. I just wish my other disabilities were also represented in media
The actor's name is Albert Rutecki and he actually _has_ autism.
It's not the same without Reese, Ethan, Will, April or Connor 😢

I'm sorry but when will you post Chicago PD clips? You posted one a few weeks ago, and since then it's only Fire and Med all the time! there is no balance in your posting! And also, plz if you do finally post PD, post smth new, from old, rare episodes we don't see often because all One Chicago channels have this tendency to post the same clips, from the same episodes over and over again! yet you have so many episodes, and so many great action scenes to choose from, especially from PD!
These are free clips they give for advertisement. If PD sales are high, they don't need to.
