So it isn't actually that big a deal and the farm subsidies need to stop and a lot of US farmers need to find other jobs . NZ doesn't subsidise its farmers. Stop trading with Nazi Germany (modern China).
@Pub Comrad who told you that? trump?
@Stoned Ewok We don't need those trade relationships. China is hurting more from it. Canada is not big enough to make up such a huge shortfall.

Heavy subsidies and government mandated acreage cutbacks.
I love how in one breath the woman complains about the EPA not doing enough to protect their ethanol gravy train, then the very next question claims she's not looking for a handout. Lady, ethanol needs those EPA special treatments precisely because it's economically a failure, and studies have blown the environmental benefit myth out of the water...it's actually WORSE than fossil fuels when you include land-use changes in the calculations.

Farmers on welfare, tRump supporters taking tax dollars same as food stamps for the poor.
Farmers and bankers both desire to be fully compensated when things are going well, and fully protected when things go badly. The idea of using petroleum to ethanol only works in a subsidized economy, without the subsidies ethanol would not be competitive. The same farmer that wants to sell corn to produce ethanol fights the wind industry.

Totally agree. I grew up in the 60's and 70's on a farm. I wanted nothing more than to be able to make a living on a small dairy like I grew up on and around. The government under Reagan changed the course of this countries agriculture system, so what we have now is a direct result of that. Trump is merely going to continue this, just on steroids.

Farm exports are vital to some US farmers but the US itself , unlike say New Zealand , can survive without being a food exporter. So it isn't actually that big a deal and the farm subsidies need to stop and a lot of US farmers need to find other jobs . NZ doesn't subsidise its farmers. NZ forced thousands of farmers to walk off the land in the 1980s when it stopped all farm subsidies and they are a country where farm products are the nation's biggest and pretty much only export.
