    Thats why I find so funny when people plot on bbp6 or winsd in order to design a box, yeah right, like breaking in the speaker and changing most of the t/s parameters doesnt affect or cabin is not a factor either lol

Are you still feeling confident that they will probably be released by the middle of this year. Thanks again for the awesome videos man and for answering my comment I really appreciate it.

    I just have a question. What are pros and cons of having stiff subwoofer? Because in my opinion having not such a stiff sub would require less power to move same amount of air. But I notice for example the subwoofer I use EDGE 122spl-e6 is pretty stiff compared to similar same power rated subs (1500w rms) so I'm wondering what are reasons behind that

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a balance to it. Yes a looser suspension will take less power to move the same displacement but it may not be as efficient, and may not be optimal for the desired frequency response, and may end up needing a tiny box that ends up effecting the low end frequency response. Being stiffer it could also be too stiff for the motor and coil leading to an extremely high Qts, won't play low well, etc. How stiff the suspension should be depends on the application, but nothing super loose will mechanically take a lot of power.

    I know my question doesn’t have anything to do with the video but what 15 inch woofer would you recommend for getting loud on music but still being able to play down to high 20’s
    I have a dc audio xl spl but it doesn’t play low enough for me lol I also have a skar zvx 15 and it plays lows way better but doesn’t get as loud
    I don’t know if it’s my box designs or what but any help would be appreciated

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of factors there. It could be your box, it could be the subs, it could be your expectations. Odds are you aren't going to be as loud at a low frequency as you are a higher frequency unless you're tuned for it. My answer to all of this would be the Banhammer, though.

    Why doesnt a frequency sweep show a large dip at the impedance peak?

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Impedance peak is less power, but it's also the greatest efficiency. Often times the efficiency will be enough to make up the difference in power or even greater than the power difference.

    How much does qts change when broken in?

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on the sub. In the case of super stiff SPL subs it could start at 0.5 and end up at 0.2 where a "normal" sub might only change from 0.5 to 0.4.

    I'm sorry, but that's not the correct way to do a frequency response measurement with REW. And it looks like you were overloading the mike at higher frequencies. Use REW's "Measure" function, not the RTA function with a slow sine sweep like that. It will give you much more accurate results, and really show what that subwoofer is capable of.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So what's the RTA's function if not you know... RTA?

    • @Grommet2007
      @Grommet2007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EMFAudio Each audio measurement tool is useful under certain circumstances. In THIS specific circumstance, an RTA is not the best tool to use for what you're trying to do.
      REW has a much, MUCH better means of measuring frequency response using the "close mike" approach that you are using to measure that subwoofer's response curve. Under "Preferences", set the right-side window to some large value (try 500ms), and then click on "Measure". Set the Start frequency as low as possible (1 Hz?) and the End frequency to 500 Hz and the length to 256K (that should give a sweep of 5.5 sec). Select "check levels" to confirm that your mic won't be overloaded (like it is in your RTA measurement), and then select "Start Measuring". REW will do the sweep and then give you a nice FR graph. That should be good for a start. You can do multiple multiple measurements this way and display any or all of them on the same graph for comparison purposes.
      Make sure to also look at the THD graph too. If you see more distortion at higher bass frequencies, it's possible that the mic is being overloaded again, and you'll have to check your gain structure to figure out why REW isn't detecting that.
