    More of a Dozer than a mulcher. I’d like to see it in action. At 104hp and 17 gpm and under 3000 psi it’s an oversized track loader with low flow. The reversible drum is cool

      Absolutely not enough hydraulic flow... for the life of me this would not be a good choice . Give me an excavator with a fecon mulching Head. Way more versatile. Now you get the best multi tool ever , that’s the excavator

    I always seem to come across the perfect tool I need for the job when I don't have the Money to acquire it.
    I like the interchangeability of the std. blade and mulcher, (more bang for the Buck)
    good video, thanks

    I had the opportunity to operate one of these machines. The bulldozer is great. The mulcher on the bulldozer, on the other hand, is not worth it. While I understand that this isn't supposed to be a dedicated mulching machine. I could go get a dedicated mulcher, complete the job and leave before you could spend the 4 hours changing heads. Anything this mulcher would do efficiently, we have a 10ft front mounted 1000rpm brushog that would do it in half the time. While the reversing drum sounds great, if the machine had enough torque to reverse the drum, it wouldn't have stopped in the first place. Simply find something solid, set the drum down on it and backup.

    I actually think it’s a great option. It’s not our mulcher head that we have issues with it’s the under carriage on our unit. This is integrating the tried and true D series platform with a mulcher.

      Adam...do you have one of these units??
      A d3k2 with a mulcher?

    Why not use a tracked Skid Steer? They normally are way faster and you can get much more work done. Granted the dozer is going to be stronger when pushing through brush and pushing trees over, but the bottom line is how much work I can accomplish is going to affect my bottom line and prices I have to charge to make a decent profit.

      Hello Gary, you are correct the Cat Compact Track Loader with steel track could be used for a similar application. The D3K2 provides a heavier platform for rough terrain and the HM518 mulcher has the ability to reverse direction when stalled due to excess material. We offer our clients solutions based on their job requirements. If a customer's operation requires that they spend a significant amount of time doing this task, the D3K2 Mulcher is a strong option.

      The ASV120 posi-track with a mulching head would be way more efficient. If I was going to spend the money for a mulching unit that size. I would buy one specifically designed for mulching

    did he say 4 hours?

  • @gdotone1

    aux pack for weight in the back and run the mulching so fast or so strong a 15 inch diameter pine tree does not slow it down. but come on, 4 hours to change to a blade.

    make a quick coupling system like on wheel loader,
    offer it for all tracktors up to D6 or even better even for Track-loader and u will sell much more...
    many company dont buy a Tracktor or Track loader cause they need this machine like 6 out of 12 month, but if u make it more alrounding without cut the power many will buy it

    • @catconstructiontrade
      @catconstructiontrade  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Evan! Take a look at our 299D2 XHP Compact Track Loader with the Land Management package. It includes a rooftop aux cooler and the HM418C mulcher. This would be a comparable package to the dozer set-up for a track loader. Contact your local Cat dealer for more information.

      @@catconstructiontrade What about for a crawler loader a dozer won't. Have enough visibility with the head I work mulching clear cuts and a skid steer won't do the job fast enough or in soft ground

      Evan - we do have Track Loaders, however the HM518 Mulcher (used here on the D3K2) is not offered with those products. We suggest consulting with your local Cat dealer on specialty applications of Cat products. They can assist you in finding the right machine solution and attachments for your jobsite.

    You could desighn a quick coupler system.. to pay an operator 4 hours and not work four hours is alot of mony lost...

    My only concern is weight and getting these to a job site. I don't have a tractor trailer. I use a trailer that I pull behind my mediun Ford F750 Dump. The trailer has a GVWR of 30,000 and weighs around 6500 lbs. Tat doesn't leave much of a margin for this unit. I can mount a forestry head on a Takeuchi or Kubota heavy weight Track loader and be WELL under my max weight. This one is going to be maxing out my outfit. unless I detach the head every time I move from jobsite to jobsite. And this unit is slow compared to a track loader too, and time is money.

    can this be quickly converted back to a dozer 6 way blade?or strictly mulcher?

    • @catconstructiontrade
      @catconstructiontrade  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul! Yes, on the D3K2 mulcher configuration, the mulcher can be removed off the machine and a 6-way blade can be attached. Please contact your local Cat dealer for more information www.cat.com/en_US/support/dealer-locator.html

    Why would you put it on a dozer? A track loader like a 939 would be a better match for a mulcher. Cat isn't thinking correctly these days.
