    Very helpful... basically new to the world of power tools etc. your videos have been a big help... I’ve ordered bits already for the “house” drill at the job... but I just ordered The Dewalt dck2991t1 combo kit so I going to get a set of the impact bits as well. Again thanks for the info I will be watching.

      “New” as in the details regarding them. I had an general knowledge as far as what they are but I didn’t know the nuances for instance “hammer drills, brushless motors etc.” I didn’t know anything about that stuff. I recently got promoted at my day job that requires “handyman” work so I’m making myself more familiar with details about them.

    “I don’t have a whole lotta time today in this video” - then the first 10 minutes of the video can be summarized into one sentence: "dont buy bits kits without a clear window. You will never know contents of them by looking at them, and then you will waste your time by opening them one by one to check." Thanks very much VCG! That backs up your opening statement so well. ^o^

      I agree Leo - "...we're gonna make this one brief - 0:52", could have been summed up with one or two sentences... Even if you didn't want to sum it up like that; at 4:25, he already stated why he wouldn't buy these kit's. And that's the other thing - for the first min. and a half, based on the words he used and the way he presented this, it sounding like he, "was NEVER going to use these kit's EVER again!!" LOL Seriously? Almost 27 min... "for clear lids?" Yeah, no kidding their better, but that's 27 min's I'll never get back again! My impression is Vince likes to ham it up with a lot of fluff and pauses that seemed like he didn't know the end of a few of his thoughts. Good effort Vince, but try to take into consideration that other people's time is valuable to them.

Personally I have the yellow box, but I know exactly what's in it without having to use a sharpie. I have the one for bits, and I have a red one for drill bits: color coded: KISS (keep it simple stupid) I've been told. I do have a clear one with all specialty bits including a larger sample of torx bits, including the safety ones. I mean just a T20 and T25 doesn't cut it. There are T10 head screws so now you're phucked without one. Just my 2 cents

    Yes, I’m one of those that mark the cases on a few sides for easy ID depending on how they are stored. Even on the red Milwaukee cases but I separate the drill and driver bits by type into personal kits of my choosing to ease the process as well. The boys do like the new clear cases also and they mix and match to their own preferences. Though I prefer the Milwaukee style of holding the bits the dewalts can be a bit of a pain. So I cut the top tabs off these so the bits can lay in easier. Hot glue small cheap bar magnets from hobby lobby onto the back side of holders and bits stay in place. As the bits are used up I pick up the particular size bits in their cluster packages as needed when refilling the cases. I’m not an expert but thought I’d share something that works well for me. Stay safe

  • @JohnnyUmphress
    @JohnnyUmphress 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    At 19:28 you experienced why I have always hated those tiny bits that go in the magnetic sleeve. Too often the bit stays on the screw. I would only use the 2" bits that lock into the driver. But the new Milwaukee tiny bits actually lock into the sleeve.
    I did buy some Dewalt bits with the magnetic sleeve when I saw your video awhile back. I had never seen them until then.

    • @JF-qc6po
      @JF-qc6po 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A little masking tape on the bit then force it in the bit holder. Bit will only come out with pliers. Cheaper than buying 2 inch bits and they will be magnetic.

    • @theyrenotdollsOK
      @theyrenotdollsOK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the opposite problem, the holder requires a few whacks on something sturdy to release the bit. I keep the same bit in until it breaks or wears out, and just swap the holder out entirely with a 2" bit when changing to different screws, seems counter intuitive but it's faster than fighting with it.

    Vince, I agree that the magnetic bits are important to have versus a "good fitting" bit. More important is that you have a magnetic bit when you are teaching a child to drive screws. Kids get discouraged when the screw keeps falling away from the bit.

    Here's a PRO Tip! (Yes I'm a Professional) No2 bits and many Other bits Don't "FIT" screws Properly because the "Bits" are too long on the Tip! So they Don't fit the screws Correctly. Put the "Bit" in a driver and knock the point off of the Bit with a Grinder or a Metal Chop Saw. Grind the point off so it "Seats" into the screw. Some "Bits" CAN just be Improperly sized, but a Lot of times the "Bit" is bottoming out!

    You are 100% right about needing magnetism on those driver bits especially when you're running miles a freaking pipe in the building and you're up on a ladder constantly I don't want to have to get down to pick up a thousand f****** screws I'd rather have the magnet it so I can have one hand on the ladder or the lift control or the pipe I'm passing into the wall and ceiling or Joyce anyting and the other hand on my driver and be able to securely put it in without having to put a new screw on every 10 seconds cuz I'm in a hurry and if I'm not using a magnetic tip it falls off right as I get the damn thing into my one hole strap or the tapcon falls out of the 5/16 bit because it's not magnetic I love this video you are 100% right or at least I know some people disagree with you but I agree with you 100%

    I can tell you - when someone has a skill-set , presentation skill and knowledge they are a worthwhile time spent watching.
    Your presentation and loquacious nature overpower your content and any teaching that
    Would come out of this video.
    I have been in TV production for a while and your presentation is very thin when it comes to content and entertainment value.
    In this space it is all about presentation and entertainment
    You focus too much on what you think you are. ( me myself and I)
    You speak like an authority in the subject often about stuff that only is interesting to you, to hear your own voice - Loquacious person.
    It is not only about you in the public space of media content - good luck from an old timer in broadcasting.

    Just in the last few months, I started building up my "collection", and instinctively, my very first focal point in selecting accessories was whether or not I could see through these kits. I'm glad I missed the "fully-opaque" boat, because S B&D wouldn't have gotten any $$$ from me, lol. Like you said, TIME IS MONEY. If I have to spend extra time badging everything, fumbling through each box, etc., it's just not worth the hassle for me. These new kits, though, I really dig where they're going with them. My only peeve now, is that I have to decide whether I want the DeWalt ones or Craftsman ones, lol. I love both brands, but it's the same company, and those dog-gone bold red and yellow that they use drives the artist me crazy indecisive, lol.

    I have had several bit kits, screwdriver sets etc that did not nail the number 2 at all. My theory is that they were actually meant for something specific. Such as wood screws vs. drywall, something like that. But I have found discrepancies with tooth width, tooth taper, AND pitch... and they were most certainly #2. Number 1 or zero I never have trouble. 3s however, same issues albeit less often. I think it's a specific Phillips type, that some companies didn't know or didn't think to put on the label. I never seem to notice a difference... until I spin a couple. I actually keep some softer bits handy to sacrifice, just so i dont gotta deal with stripped heads in a mismatch.

I worked for Bergelectric as a driver before i was an apprentice and we bought most of our expendables( hacksaw blades, bits, tips, hole saws, arbors etc... ) and hand tools like socket sets and Allen sets, tin snips, etc...) from Martin Supply in downtown off Washington near Long Beach Blvd. . After I was a driver for a year making pickups at that shop daily, I became warehouse foreman and I was making purchases spending a lot of money with them, so a couple years go by and I become an apprentice and was leaving the warehouse job the salesmen at Martin had me come over and they took me to lunch and afterwards one of the managers had me walk with him throughout the warehouse and he pulled every tool an Apprentice electrician needs and some extras, probably close to $700 or more back in '89 all Klein and Lennox and gave me all that to help me out because I had given them millions of dollars with of business over the couple years. If possible, would pick up..... both. If each has pluses, which can save me time, issues on projects, making more people more versatile and better use of their time...
    The mag connection, can get tossed in as another bit in the box. Have "other bits" tossed in the yellow box already in my bags. Yes, solid coloured boxes - get written on and always have, just a fact of life. Someone looking for "the clean image" will find they spend time looking. Those who do not care about the outside and willing to write on them? Hit the main face with detail/notes and sides for when stored vertically. After all, if organized and restored after each project or shift in a project - can find in a moment. If always done and an emergency pops up? Can grab the appropriate items quickly and be on the move.
    Thanks for the info, appreciated.
