What a sublime work of romantic expression. The composer's youthful exuberance is balanced by his use of delicate revery. Chopinesque in that regard.

A Lisztian piece, no doubt. But rather nostalgic than romantic, more "SOLLEN" than "MUSSEN". Interesting to compair the 2nd movement of this concert with the 2nd Mov. of Tschaikowsky´s Piano Concerto Nr. 2. Different times, same DNA of nostalgy.

Beginning of the first movement is very reminiscent of Schumann and Grieg works, so yes, very Romantic.

Very good for a 20 year old. Although labeled #1, there were two earlier piano concertos. One lost, and one left unfinished in score. He seems to have written 21 operas.
