I really do appreciate attaching authentic photography of the beautiful Finnish landscape on top of the music.

Great symphony! The first movement alone deserves special mention. One of the great modern works in my view.

Leevi has such a clear and defined musical language like Sibelius, it's sad that he is relatively unknown.

My first impression while hearing this symphony was of genial, gentle music, but as it progressed, it became clear that it was more muscular and serious. The ending was very impressive with its' return to the rhythmical opening motif. This is an excellent First Symphony.

Leevi Madetoja is truly one of the greatest sound architects of his time! A few years ago, a very good friend introduced me to her works ... I will always be grateful to her translucent and majestic soul, prematurely soaring

As a quite strong musical message as nostalgic, a little bit "lost" in itself, ie a small portion of "mystery", Remarkable.

This composer I find a master of gentleness.

Really very subtle and delicate formal and melodic development. Impressive by any standard.

I feel a strong affinity here with the music of Howard Hanson, and they are actually of the same generation (Madetoja born in 1887, Hanson in 1896). I don't suppose they ever heard each other's music, but they seem kindred to me.

Me fascina este músico. Lástima que esta sinfonía sea tan corta, me quedo con ganas de más.

I like this symphony and often lose track of it. I confuse it with one of Weingartner's. I think I've solidified it now. This may be my fourth hearing.

This is a composer of subtle and tender emotional moods. The more I hear these symphonies the finer they sound to me.

This sounds like early film music, colourful and addictive. I rather think Disney should have got hold of it.

So glad I found this. I've been trying to find some other Finnish composers besides the obvious one, and I wasn't impressed by Merikanto or Rautavaara. But this is music I'd want to hear again...and again!!

Yes, good, neverthless, how - why are you so inclined? (I am a Finn, but critical on my own standpoints at this point. Should our Master Leevi behave solely as a romantic person, in my imaginations...?)

    この山の絵は、日本の画家・富岡鉄斎(Tomioka Tessai, 1837~1924)の「妙義山・瀞八丁図」(The Myogi mountain scenery・the Toro-hacho scenery, 1906)を連想させる。

One must collect the theme(s) of the wholeness. Imagination is given a big sphere, and distrait thaughts too...

This is an interesting and talented composer with a subtly individual voice. Shades of Sibelius of course, but, also puts me in mind of symph0nies by Vaughn Williams and Walton too -- maybe just the common heritage of early 20th century late romantic composers. Symph No. 1 is the least characteristic of the three but numbers 2 and 3 and better and No. 3 sounds quite distinct from the earlier two.
      A nice find!

Seems as if I am to be the 1st to "like". And why not? Another great Finnish composer, but also in the shadow of Sibelius.
