The moment the second movement comes back. I have no words to describe how touching it is. 18:15

This work demonstrates that demarcation between classicism and romanticism is very much conventional. A Mozart contemporary writes an easily early Romantic piece. With a lot of idiom peculiar to the Classical period, sure, but in spirit closer to Spohr or latest Dussek works than to Mozart's. Great upload, thank you KD!

Un capolavoro immenso, degno di Beethoven e dei suoi parenti stretti. Da divulgare con ogni mezzo.

The opening of the 3rd movement makes me think of the 3rd movement to Beethoven's "Tempest" sonata.

Sounds like a Fortepiano to me. Wonderful work, of course. "like"

This is a great sonata (22 min.) in the dark sonority of G minor. From the beginning, we can hear sharp contrasts, but the tonality of G minor is not used at his maximum dramatic intensity. Nevetheless, once again is is a great sonata which we would like to hear from time to time.

I agree. My general opinion of Eberl is that he was a good composer who bridged the classical and romantic styles. He was an excellent music craftsman. His music shows great intensity and many similarities to his contemporaries Mozart, Dussek, and Beethoven. His weakness is that his themes are not memorable ones that touch the heart like Mozart, Dussek, and Beethoven.

@@brianknapp8645 Fully agree. You could add Weber and Schubert.

Mi piacerebbe ascoltarla con un moderno pianoforte.
