Boom mics capture too much ambient noise, especially after processing (normalize) so cardioid is better, so I wouldn't use RODE. ATR and BOYA sound similar when recording speech but Boya has better specs. It will definiely perform better with instruments. BOYA is a 14 mm condenser mic while ATR is a dynamic mic. Condenser mics are better for voice recording at studio or home. ATR has a lower dynamic range than BOYA. ATR has 15000hz top while BOYA has 20000 hz. BOYA is 24 bit, while ATR is 16 bit depth. I'd go with Boya. It's superior.
ATR to my ears sounds more natural. All of them however pick up significant reflections. Seems like you have some space on your walls for some acoustic paneling which will help a lot. What kind of floors do you have? If hardwood, a rug would help a lot as well.
I doubt I can do much to improve acoustics in the room. My desk is in the corner of the living room and unlikely family will be happy to see foam decorations on the walls :)
that said, I do think a good dynamic microphone like Heil PR40, Sure SM7B, or similar would be even better, you'd have to be REALLY close, but it would eliminate so much of the reflections. (Of course, it's $$$, and you need a separate dedicated interface)
@@bscheirman thats quite a lot of $$. Guess that SM7B + interface for it will cost close to 1K. That would be reasonable investment for podcasts or if I would do more content in front of the screen, similar to your screencasts. For most of the videos I'm using shotgun microphone, I will think about that if will not found any better problem to solve by throwing money to it :)
ATR microphone has XLR connection as well, I'm curious if that would make a big difference to use AI-1 or similar interface comparing with USB connection for mice
I'm using Loopback audio app for video mixing and can monitor sound in external headphones. I'm using another microphone now, but connection is the same

Thanks for the review, I used to record videos with boya pm500 now I'm switching to AKG ARA
Nice 👍
The sound on the ATR is a lot more smooth and way better. Although it would be nice to hear Boya when the audio is processed.
I already have ATR back in the microphone arm, seems that will keep it for a bit more.

@@AivarsMeijers Yeah, definitely not *needed* -- the content is the most important part
I liked them in following order:
1. ATR
2. Rode Videomic NTG
3. Boya (wouldn’t buy this one personally)
That about the same like I would order them. I'm sticking with Rode for running around and recording vlogs, ATR for live streams and video calls.
Given that you don't have an acoustically treated room, the Audio-Technica is better suited, as it picks up less room noise
Is there any setting to disable self listening when you use this microphone and 3.5 builtin?
Lol love the silent guest for interview 🐶🤣🤣
Hello.. does it work on Samsung S24 ultra?
ATR sounds better than the Boya. I like the dark look of the Boya yet sound quality is more important than visual quality of the microphone.
ATR showing his age and looks outdated, but still sounds good. Probably it will stay around for a bit more.
I just bought like a cheapo 30$ XLR micrphone setup, with a RØDE's AI-1 interface for 110$, and it sounds amazing.

I am looking a micro for speaking recording, is the atr2100 still good at the moment?
I switched to Shure microphone
@@AivarsMeijers What is the shure model? Can you please recommend a p/p micro under $100? Thank you.
@@nghiatruong6359 My shure is in 200+ price range. Audio Technica linked in description is below $100 and sounds really well
Is it posible to conect this mic to iPhone using USB C - Lightning cable ?
Nope. I just tested to be sure. iPhone doesn't provide power to the microphone
@@AivarsMeijers So i Need to buy boya pm 700sp
@@kacpertofil not sure if that will work with iPhone in your described connection and cable
@@AivarsMeijers this model Is dedicaded for iOS devices, in the box you have microusb - lightning cable.
how would you connect headphones for streaming
I'm using Loopback audio app for video mixing and can monitor sound in external headphones.
I'm using another microphone now, but connection is the same
The ATR Definitely followed by the BOYA, rhode sounds terrible
Nice review!
Thank you! Cheers!
I think Boya is a good choice for people with low budgets
it looks great option for low-budget stream setup and/or mobile studio for podcasts.
Wise words from your coworker 😄
yeah, he is introvert, do not speak much :)
rode is ok to pro ...but boya is ok top streaming ;-] atr too ;-]
Somewhere in the world one expensive shure sm7b cries...
I would consider getting one if all the videos would be on the front of computer.
@@AivarsMeijers fair enough, thank you for your youtube-work :)
Atris better because boya is very flat, no bass in sound
ATR is best
yeah, agree
ATR sounds better
Thanks for the feedback, I feel about the same
Boya garbage.....
That's budget microphone, sounds about like I expected.
Rode and ATR sound better to my ears. The roya sounds more « metallic ». Maybe some setup to do?
Yeh, the same to me.
